The Spanish never kneel or surrender to the invaders and that is why Spain has never been invaded in its entirety. The Spanish guerrillas are, in fact, the most powerful army in the world, that is the great secret of Spain in war matters, Napoleon did not know it and that's why he lost and repented, Hitler did know and that's why he refused to attack Spain . No matter how much military advantage there is, the only way to conquer Spain is to kill the 46 million Spaniards. Otherwise, any invading army in Spanish territory would be annihilated and massacred without any opportunity. Of course, this is only counting military objective terms and the border that separates both countries, in that case Spain could be invaded by some countries. But, adding the geography and the population of Spain as well as the patriotic call of all Spaniards scattered around the world (which are not few), Spain is impossible to invade. I'm born in the Pyrénées Orientales, the French catalan side, let's put aside the frictions with Catalunya and Spain for now but as you say, we share more than just blood. We share part of our cultures as you mentioned. But from where I live, we share even more than that, we share history and people. When the Retirada happened, we covered (in the P.-O.) for the Spanish fleeing the civil war. In my region, we had 250k people living here originally. We covered for 270k Spanish, more than our own people, to make sure our neighbors would live through it. And now, I'm living in the French basque side (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) for my work. Couldn't be happier when I got the opportunity to keep living close to our moutains and borders !

Historically Spain has been pretty hard to conquer even when in a numerical disadvantage, during ww2 the Germans were dissuaded from invading Spain for that same reason, 800 years of war in the moor invasions the Napoleonic wars and Numantia show they are hard and too expensive to conquer. In the penisular war Spain lost roughly 66% of it's population and still kept fighting back

You're forget that without the British help or the Austrian declaration of war in 1809 Napoleon will win his compain against the spanish. The Spanish was really brave but France was against all of Europe with the obligation to stop to suplies they troops in Spain for 275 000 men in Germany and Austria in 1809 and 650 000 men trained since 1810-1811 for the Russian campain. But in side by side without the help of basiccaly all of Europe, sorry but the Spanish had no chance against french napoleonic army. Also Joseph was a really bad King and military commandant and the defeat in Spain was in part because of him and military errors of the Napoleon's generals. And the 275 000 troops used against Austria was in march against Portugal and Andalousia in 1809, Napoleon was in command and he was winning against the guerrillas and the British. The French loose in 1810 without Napoleon, a lot of troops, with bad generals against the good general in chief Arthur de Welleslay futur duke of wellington.

Spain and Portugal would have lost the Peninsula War if Napoleon hadn't pulled out to deal with Russia and Austria, true. BUT, with the forces that were in Spain once Napoleon left, they were defeated. And Spain didn't have a Napoleon either, had less and worse proffessional troops than the French and most of their generals were mediocre or bad (with a couple of exceptions). But the French didn't have guerrilla or the support of the people, while the Spanish did. Yes, the Duke played its part, but as juan stated, most of French soldiers died at Spanish hands (although he is wrong in one detail: the 200k French casualties were caused by all Spanish forces, not only the guerrilla). The Brits always play their part, but don't believe them when they say it was mostly thanks to them; maybe with the exception of WW1 (the blockade of HM Navy eventually brought Germany down) but it was not the case in the Peninsula War or WWII. I really like Britain and the British, but they still suffer a bit of post-Empire nostalgia :)

The French plan was for the French mobile forces (1st and 5th Armies if I recall) to engage the German Army (the Heer... NOT the Wermacht, the latter was actually the term for ALL the German armed forces as a whole) in Belgium. The plan was to force a war that was not on French soil. The French were not fucking stupid, they KNEW that the best way to stop another war on their soil was to force it to be fought on someone elses. They KNEW that Germany would almost certainly go around again, the Border between the two contries was highly fortified before WWI, let alone in 1939. The idea was sound, the Maginot Line could be held by second, even third rate troops, freeing up higher quality troops for the mobile divisions. The execution was the problem. The reasons for that are many and complex, and are a mixture of manpower problems stemming from the absolutly BRUTAL casualties France suffered in WWI, political indecision and infighting between the wars, and an inability for certain parts of French High Command to see that maybe warfare had changed, and it might be a little more mobile than 1918.... The French were perfectly aware, unlike you, that static fortifications alone do NOT stop invading forces. What they CAN do is channel those invading forces into ground of your choosing... not theirs. THAt was the purpose of the Maginot Line. To channel enemy forces... that it did not work was not due to a fault with the idea, the idea was perfectly sound, but with other problems not related to that doctrine....

He didn't count 2 major assets the French have: The French Foreign Legion, or the major advantage France has in training. In this fight, it's likely that France would dominate over Spain, especially after taking into consideration France has been actively ramping up military spending the past couple years because of US withdrawal from situational conflicts, and they've become heavily invested in the idea of the French taking the place of the US in geopolitical conflicts in case the US does withdraw from its role as "world police". The French government sees themselves as the successor to the US in that regard.

There are many factors that go into the 3:1 NATO/US doctrine in warfare, and it includes things like training, technology, experience, surprise, verocity of action, terrain, etc. It's why the US didn't even bother sending more than 200,000 troops against Iraq during the second Iraq war. They knew the military edge they had was so overwhelming that we could take out a 600,000 man army who had substandard training (Soviet doctrine) and equipment (Soviet leftovers, not prime Soviet tech) within three weeks and have the whole country. That said, the biggest thing he also didn't count was the paramilitary forces, which would have come in very useful at holding terrain for the main military forces. I believe it would be far more likely if France were to start off the war with a naval invasion to the southeast of the Pyrenees, possibly near Barcelona - which would hopefully allow French forces pushing over the Pyrenees to quickly link up and push further into spain. In addition, it seems likely that they would support catalonian nationalists, which would likely cause chaos in the region. This video seems to just compare numbers, not really taking strategy into account, sadly.

Not completely agreeing with you on this one. - Spain has no real forces of any use on any of their islands meaning they will loose them as they can not defend them with only police officers who are not trained properly as only source. For the Spanish to add troops and heavy support to the islands will be rather stupid as they will be sitting ducks for the long range attacks of the French ships. This leaves a mainland defense only. - The French have the ability to drop in paratroopers and land soldiers by boats. With so many troops at their disposal it's only a matter of where to land these troops and how to supply them properly Spain has the air drop capability, but not so much the boat option. This leaves the Spanish airborne units on the ground and likely join the fight where it matters instead of trying to attack. - The Spanish Mediterranean fleet is rather lacking meaning the French navy will have it fairly easy, the French will have ship losses at the hand of submarines and possibly airborne units but the Spanish surface fleet won't be much of an issue. - The French artillery units are legendary evil so to speak, they are insanely good and even with their old artillery units they can do serious and very accurate damage to the Spanish forces. Spain on the other hand never really got much into this modern type of artillery and doesn't train well enough nor has combat experience. They may do some damage but also due to range limitations they are likely taken out quickly before they can do serious damage. This would be a victory for France with the footnote that the Spanish people most likely will rebel against the French causing a long hard fight with hit and run tactics by the Spanish civilians. In the end it may not be the victory that is worth the effort or time.

France & Spain are friends and this video is pure fiction, and bad fiction since the author forgot about paratroopers, and the high ground advantage of controlling the mountains. There's been a lot of battles between France and Spain, in the Pyrenees and around, and there are a lot of fortifications, castles, fortresses, citadels, tunnels, positions that would still be usefull nowadays, particularly in the Pyrénées Orientales region, and certainly in the north of Catalunia too. Wars in the 17th century costed a lot of lives for both countries, the winner of such a war nowadays would still lose a lot.

@@chrislyne377 I am French. I visited the Pyrénées Orientales region last summer. I know what I'm talking about. I'm military, I know what a good firing position is, and what a good fortification is. That's what I've seen there. The flatter coastal region is still mountainous and heavily fortified by both the French and Spanish on each side of the border. Vauban made this place a mountain chain fortress. Mountains aren't avoidable, most roads and ways are kept by fortifications. It is Alpine tier, same situation on the French Italian border. Try to pass on the coastal flatter way and get rekt by artillerie firing from above. As I said, this video is so wrong, but the author could not know if he didn't visit the region.

Pretty much impossible, unless the US is really weakened. Right now, at it's full strength, not even the rest of the world could invade it, since the US would simple invade the rest of the Americas and turn it into an inaccessible stronghold. It's neighbors such as Canada and Mexico couldn't stop an American invasion, and I doubt and serious reinforcements could arrive in time to prevent them from falling.
