A lot of other ppl also me just don't care at this point. The lower 48 and their politics are such a distant entity a lot of us just don't really care much what happens. A president is a president. And the last 2 elections have been nothing but entertainment for us anyways. It doesn't help our opinion of blue either that Obama had killed our domestic oil significantly, which was one of our main sources of wealth. That was the last big thing a presidents influence did to Alaska and it's still fresh in our minds. Lots of ppl got layed off and lost their jobs.

@@Red-Magic Oh, so this guy was truthful after all. I still do hope they cut down on margins, I've heard the demo party is investing across all states due to the massive funding advantage they have. My personal wish as much as it might be unrealistic though is that Harris can win Florida and / or Texas. I have a friend who lives in Texas and everything there is terrible, including health stuff... but I'm not American so it's out of my expertise. I've been trying to give guidance to people who want to vote though online.

Very, VERY low chance, but not zero. If 18k Trump voters in 2020 swapped, then the state would have been borderline tied. The state is pretty elastic. Just something to take note of.

Contrary to many commenters here, I like that this channel is actually focusing on other states' politics in the US instead of the same tired few swing states that most mainstream media reporting on the US election is focusing on. It's a nice reminder that the US actually has more than 7 states, and that we really should be looking at more than just the tipping points of the election to get a more holistic picture of the US.

Alaska has a massive gender imbalance. Something like 110 men for every 100 women. Men vote conservative more than women do. Also, Alaska is libertarian more than religious. It’s one of the least religious states in America. If Trump alienates too many libertarian voters with his tariffs, restrictions on free speech, etc. then losing Alaska is possible.

Trump +10 in 2020 to Trump +7-8 in 2024. Alaska is trending left because of the moderate rejection of trumpism and because of left trending military bases. Anchorage is trending to the left which represents almost 1/3 of the state.

Don't underestimate recent events. Russia is more present in Alaska than anywhere else, and Trump has a really bad and not convincing posture on the subject. Especially with republican politicians pushing increasingly to keep the US production of air-defense weapons as low as possible.

Okay cool, but Alaska has three electoral votes. Republicans should be much more worried about their margins in Texas shrinking. As they go below five percent in Texas, Republicans will have to campaign more and more in what used to be one of their stalwart states, meaning they won't be able to campaign as much in the many other states they need to win. Hopefully this trend continues.

Some things that makes Alaska interesting is that the state tends to lean: Pro oil and mining Pro fishing and hunting Pro marijuana and other drug legalizations Pro firearm ownership Pro abortion Pro same sex marriage Pro military Pro business Anti taxes Anti Washington D.C law micromanagement Anti general regulations (i.e. don’t require mask wearing during COVID, don’t require vaccinations, allow 14 year olds to drive cars, allow people to drive snow machines on Anchorage sidewalks, allow fully automatic firearms to citizens of all ages, allow people to build stuff on government own land, the list could go on.) Trump can appeal to people that like low taxes, guns, hunting, fishing, mining, oil drilling and the stock market. Harris can appeal to people that like social justice, deregulating drug use, environmental preservation, and climate change awareness. Both candidates can look attractive to the right person, but which one can satisfy the most key traits could make the state turn a certain color. I live in Anchorage so my perspective may be quite different from other Alaskans, especially from places like the Wasilla/Palmer area (more conservative and Christian), or the Villages (I’m not sure how Native Alaskans feel about this).

If Alaska goes blue the more Important part is senate elections as Democrats are at a significant disadvantage in the Senate. Even if democrats held every seat in blue and swing States they would only have 52 senators despite having well over 300 electoral votes.

Yes, but it's only a few. Democrats really experienced their "big loss" in 2016. Ohio is now a firm red state and Michigan is a battleground state (1 GOP win since 1992). In the near future, New Hampshire and statewide Maine could be an issue for the Democratic Party. But generally, their other safe states are likely to remain safe.

I'm Alaskan, so I'm going to skip your history lesson and give you the answer: There are a lot of free thinkers in AK but a lot of military and petroleum-industry people as well. It's been turning a shade of purple for a long time now. However, bear in mind that a lot of people are realizing that Trump and the Maga movement are neither conservative nor Republican. True conservatives are voting for Harris. Conservatives love the Constitution. Trump wants to eliminate it.

I get the historical trend towards purple in some states. At the same time, basically every election nowadays is "Can X turn blue?", and then the state votes red by a wide margin, or a blue swing-state turns out to be razor-thin. Ohio, and Florida, has become more red in recent elections, not less.

It's more likely for a red state than a blue state to become a swing state at the moment. Young voters skew Democrat, Roe V Wade being repealed has galvanised female voters against the Republicans and the many of the voters who heavily lean Republican are old. Maybe a majority-Muslim blue state could have flipped over Harris's support for Israel, but there aren't any. They might well make videos about blue states going to Trump if Biden was still in the race, but unless Harris also has a campaign-derailing moment like Biden's debate performance, it's simply much less likely for a blue state to go purple than a red state this time.
