Life finds a way…Jake (that’s me!) is enjoying a relaxing vacation at Jurassic Park when something goes terribly wrong and the dinosaurs escape their cages. With the prehistoric beasts running rampant, the race is on to get to the last boat off the island…and see if you could survive the awesome power of a T-Rex bite, being hunted by Pterosaurs and conversely, whether or not dinosaurs could actually survive in OUR world.

Of course you can think of it this way in the wild there is diverse eco system of animals that hunt each other living in harmony just to get one thing water so why would domesticated dino's whom depend on the humans at that point in its life ! just eat all its food without letting the next gen produce those dino will go for the young and slow just like insects in a terrarium?

Funny thing about the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park is they are similar to a Raptor species named Utahraptor. Ironically Utahraptor was discovered a couple of months before Jurassic Park’s debut in 1993. Crazy that in trying to make scarier Velociraptors, ILM basically predicted a species of dinosaur not yet discovered.

So from what I remembering reading, the book explains that the raptors are not the smaller more turkey-like velociraptor mongoliensis, but instead the deinonychus, which back when the book was written was also referred to as velociraptor antirrhopus. But both the author and Spielberg chose to use velociraptor because it sounds cooler than deinonychus. And yeah, the raptors in the movies still should be smaller snd have feathers.

There actually were some Raptor species that did grow to be the size of the ones in jurassic park, if not bigger. Also, recent studies have put the feathered t rex into question. The oxygen deprivation experiment simulated if you brought a dinosaur via a time machine to our present day and made it run. If they were born in our time, I would suspect that a similar thing that happens to humans that experience a decrease in oxygen would occur; that is, the body eventually adapts to the new conditions (primarily by increasing red blood cell count). This is why many athletes will train at high altitudes. So, I guess what I’m trying to say is that life would, um, find a way.

@electro7435
@electro7435 2 жыл бұрын
The main reason it turned out like that was because of the poor usage of sources by Michael Crichton. He used the infamous Princeton Field Guide which are well known in the palaeontological community for not distinguishing dinosaurs and constantly 'grouping' animals. That is why the Velociraptor and Deinonychus were considered to be from the same species. The movies of course did not help with this by having our friend Alan Grant digging up Velociraptor in Montana.

actually, in the book he has doctor grant specifically call out that the raptors are too big. a youtuber known as klayton fioriti talks about it in detail here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/paDEl5KcZsZrkKM Further, Crichton chose to "misname" the raptors as a way to further underline how the park was not fit to run as a park, and how it was doomed to fail. He also further wanted to mention the historical debate when deinonychus was classified as velociraptor antirrhopus (as you pointed out. nice catch! i actually came into the comments to share that same info!) Speilberg chose to omit the discussion and keep calling them velociraptor, as you said, because it sounded cooler. I wish they had kept the bit where grant talks about deinonychus' classification and such, it's a fun bit of paleontological drama that emphasizes how taxonomy and classification is often not a straightforward process.

Jake! 😃 You let out tha5 they found the Utahraptor shortly after the movie (or was it JP2?), so while they may still be feathery they'd be close to the movie size velociraptor. So the fictional Jurassic Park version turned out to be okay anyway (especially if the dna was appropriately combined with reptiles like explained in the original movie).
