Count Basie, IMHO had the Best, MOST Swinging Big Band Ever! I was so blessed to have seen him at the Hollywood Bowl in 1972. An amazing, Life Altering Experience! Especially since Ella performed with him as well.

To see and hear Sonny live was a musical treat not unlike Rich or Bellson, he stands in the pantheon of the GOATS.

Music. And Sonny Payne!! So underrated, he’s an absolute master. So good to hear Freddie Green, the anchor of the Big Boat

Basie showed a lot of restraint with the boneheaded blues question. You would think Gleason would at least know the difference between blues and rhythm changes to be doing a show like this and writing about jazz.

Maybe, just for you, we can get them back together, for one night, to record a more modern studio sound? 😉

Jazz and a good and authentic one is too complicated for American taste, Asians and Europeans know how to appreciate it.
