Wrote my paper one exam today, and just wanted to thank you both so so so much for all the content you've uploaded over the past year! First, you saved my individual oral, and now your tips for paper 1 have seriously come in hand! Do continue to upload these masterclass-style videos since they were a perfect watch a few days before the exam, and I'm sure that many upcoming students would really appreciate such content too. Your videos about the subtleties of academic writing such as adding voice, talking about reader effect, showing perceptiveness, etc. were really really helpful in improving my answers, and I feel confident about my response in today's exam. Once again, a BIG thank you for everything you've done, and all the lives you've saved. Keep it going! :)

Don’t be stressed. Go in with a clear head and be a reader first! Make a clear plan (rudimentary outline!) and focus on the guiding question.

So helpful! By the way, could you possibly evaluate a technique as little effective or, generally, give a negative evaluation?

Yes, I think this can be done and you should have a critical eye if something is not as effective. This is also evaluation. To me, this might be the ticket as MOST STUDENTS will praise a text but few will find fault. EVERY PIECE OF WRITING can be improved so have a critical eye.

is it advised to consider authorial failures that can be supported when evaluating?

YES! I think we need to be critical readers and if something is left out or not done well, then it’s fair to point that out. Don’t just drink the Cool Aid!
