Could you guys break down how to write an ideal paragraph? Do you use PEEL (P=Point E=Evidence E=Explanation L=Link to thesis)? I have no trouble finding the ideas of a text but how to present these in a focused and coherent matter… Your videos are super helpful. Keep up!

We have several videos that explore paragraph writing and all of our sample papers are linked for each Paper 1 text. Open some of those and check out how we structure our given paper. Yes, we begin with a clear TOPIC and RICH IDEA that supports the thesis. Then we provide evidence from the text. Then we offer analysis and expand on this. PEEL principles apply here! Good luck. You might want to check out "The Model Paragraph" video as well to see how our students break down and structure their work. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6XPY4WBgLiMd6M

Your videos are very helpful but I couldn't help but notice that the vocab you use while writing is much stronger than while speaking. Any tips on how to develop such strong vocab (if you have any book recommendations or genre type that would also be useful)

Andrew and I have a formal voice when writing but our videos are meant to be engaging and student friendly. Being a reader is the best way to improve your vocabulary and reading challenging works and articles and op-Eds and other texts that interest you will help your vocabulary.

If I want to structure my by literary techniques what's the best amount of paragraphs to do?
@ibenglishguys
@ibenglishguys 9 ай бұрын
Try to think of a rich idea for your paragraph based on what you see in the text. Focus on three paragraphs minimum but cover the entire text!

Quick question about the IO, is a scene from the film considered as non-literary? For example, Is analyzing the characters quotes from a 5 minute scene from the film be considered as non-literary? My teacher says that it can only be screenshots and analyzing the screenshots but I also heard that analyzing a scene is allowed so I'm really confused.

You can and should analyze a short sequence or scene from a film. The screenshots (to me) are just to document your short sequence. You can and should discuss the ENTIRE 2-3 minute sequence and pay close attention to the entire script (dialogue) of that sequence and the cinematic work in that 2-3 minute sequence. The screenshots can anchor your talk and you should refer to each of them and discuss what we see. But you do not have to limit yourself to the screenshots only. Hope this helps.

In the conclusion, where the student wrote "We've all felt that joy of receiving a kiss from a dog...", isn't that a generalization? And isn't using the pronoun "we" not allowed in formal papers because "we" also refers to yourself? I am also confused about the guiding question because the student did not mention anything about how the layout and website features helps to relay the message in the conclusion, it feels as if they just included the key words for the sake of including the words.

We like a good closing with some personality. “We” is fine in this context as well.

How about for lit paper 1s that have less purpose to talk about?
@ibenglishguys
@ibenglishguys 11 ай бұрын
Every text will have a central idea or topic that it refers to. This might get you towards “purpose” for a lit text. Step back and consider the main idea of the passage and connect this to purpose.

Is it okay to use "we" in the production?

“We” can be used academically in writing. It can also be avoided so it’s a judgment call.

How do I devise my three paragraphs?
@ibenglishguys
@ibenglishguys Жыл бұрын
There is no easy formula for this. To us, you need to use the guiding question AND let the text help you. Find areas of the text to consider that also correspond to the guiding question. It could be parts of the text or beginning, middle, end of the text. Totally depends on the text. Go through our sample paper 1’s and look for how we organized them. We have a Paper 1 complete study guide coming out on our website in a few days with MANY samples. (www.ibenglishguys.com)
