@@VeetiM The ability to "perfectly time an attack to hit them" literally doesn't exist if you have more than 50ms of latency, which is effectively always with FromSofts netcode. The 3 frames of vulnerability between uses stops existing because of how the servers manage lag, plus even if they didn't have literally overlapping s, theres very few weapons that could cover the distance from a backwards BHS with an attack that would reach in time.

i never use finger severer if i invade groups camping, or afk farmers. i just go afk hiding somewhere else until they quit. use the talisman that makes you invisible while crouching a certain distance away, and crouch in an open field somewhere, and boom. or just find a bush to crouch in. either way, i'm invisible, and i just wait and read on my laptop until they ragequit at me fucking over their stupidity. or watch netflix.

Yeah playing passive is the most consistent way to deal with them. Wait for them to whif an attack and punish and try to punish when they inevitably go to drink a blue to spam it more or heal after being whiff punished to many times. The only way to win is to not do pvp. I chose my armor set based entirely on looks alone and use weapons and ashes of war that are fun to use. I avoid all conversations about any kind of meta because that kills all fun, variety and self expression. When I see memes or get invaded I catch glimpses of what must be the meta because everyone looks and moves and fights exactly the same with the exact same weapons and skills, but I try my best not to let it factor into my decisions. Players will ALWAYS have way less health then even the starting boss and the meh build at best can 2-3 shot margit at end game levels (where pvp normally is) so most pvp goes to 1 shots since pve is vastly scaled up from a pvp fight. The damage scaling in this game is cracked as hell when a bleed build can cause 4k damage a bleed proc on 1 jump attack. It's why the invastions arnt mandatory anymore, you need to summon to activate pvp or use bloody fingers and doing that wont open your world to invastions either. At a base level invastions are a back though in this game for people who just wanna do it and only to people that allow it so the base game doesn't care much about pvp balance (maybe 1 or 2 things here and there but not alot)

@@gageunruh3574 PvP can be balanced by giving everyone a 40% or so damage reduction when receiving attacks from other players. Also worth noting that bleed does a percentage of the enemies health in damage. The only way to balance it is to either drastically reduce buildup, reduce bleed damage, or reduce the damage of bleed weapons. I'm in favor of reducing the damage of bleed weapons because that's what leads to most of the one shot builds. The bleed weapons deal the same amount of damage as normal weapons with the added opportunity to deal a massive amount of extra damage on top of it. It honestly ruins PvP and PvE. I can't use bleed in PvE because it feels so stupidly broken that it's boring.

This seems like one of those Balance things where it's fun to use but annoying to play against. I'm getting the idea that BHS cannot really be nerfed without gutting both the use case, and the power fantasy of it. It's a crutch for 1v1s, but almost a nececisty for counter ganking. But I think what it really boils down to is trying to look for competetive balancing in a souls-game We've been down this road 4 times before, that's just how it ends up, you nerf one thing, people stop using it and go to the other next best thing. IE: You have to play with a- "for fun" mindset, or you're going to burn yourself out complaining about balance.

I play a strength / faith build with the bastard sword and i use the bloodhound step because i find it very badass the way the characters tp with it and it's pretty useful in some situations, and just so you know, i'm not 1 of those people who really spam it (i rarely use it more than 3 or 4 times in a fight), and so what, according to you and other people i see on that comment section, am i deserve to be witch hunting, harassing, irl harmed if we listen to you (and maybe even irl killed if we listen to some people here or on forums) ?

The only way I have ever managed to smash someone out of it was with a magic build and using Cannon of Haima or however it's spelled. I used my Lazuli Glintsword, or blade. The wooden sword with glintstone in it that makes Glintstone Pebble into the most lethal shit in the world - and he leapt back with BHS because I had already done that to him once and caught him offguard for 723 pure magic damage. He realizes I'm fully charging a Cannon of Haima and keeps stepping, stepping, stepping, boom. Right as he's pressed his fourth input for it, I have lobbed the cannon shot and it arcs right over head like I'm a wraith on Halo 2 set to Legendary. Just instantly that shit snipes him right as he's coming out of BHS and he explodes in a burst of 1.1K damage and fails the vigor check thanks to my flask boosting magic damage. From this all I know is... big, explosive attacks right on their heads, or delayed strikes that will catch them off guard right as they're coming out of it like the gavel we can get from the ending boss. A Faith build like that could decimate a BHS player if they had a Quickstep weapon to keep up. So, maybe a Quickstep dagger to get in close, or a weapon good at roll catching with quickstep on it, then when you close the gap, quickly switch and drop your weapon art which has a delay where you perform an aerial, then come down on your target you're locked to in the immediate area, which could possibly work. I haven't tried this, though. Not good with Miracles yet even though I'm making a " paladin " character as well, but spells like Elden Stars might help make them burn through their FP faster than they can chug and evade you.

as someone who has no experience in competetitive and has only watched meme videos and lore dumps, I feel I am the most well-informed person on this, and would suggest a tactic I saw, called "The Wall". Basically, Stat up defense so hard, with such massive shields and armor, weight be dammed, that they cannot hurt you without burning FP, and the things that do burn FP do so little chip damage that they can't keep attacking you. This is the definitive successful option, thus ordained by Turtle Pope Miriel, I accept no criticism except what agrees with me and will elaborate no further.

I think Jeenine has an excellent patch to bhs. Reduce mobility to slightly slower than sprinting and make i-frames only on the feet (poison swamp immunity)

@@DefinitionofFailure To be fair I think B Team did a better job at PvP mechanically speaking than uh... what... A Team? Or whatever other part of FromSoft is when it comes to PvP in Dark Souls. Granted yes Soul Memory was bad (tho it was good on paper I'm sure lol) and simply needed a small tweak in my opinion but whatever. As far as how Invasions went and weapon balancing and just everything in general (besides Katanas but we will ignore that for the moment) was done it was the one that felt the most satisfying. Being able to invade anyone at any time regardless of having Phantoms and their HP/Curse Status was just glorious. Kept the game alive honestly more so than any of the other Dark Souls titles. People shit on DS2 to no end but it had the most solid PvP experience to date. Nothing feels more satisfying than chasing down a Host running to the Boss Fog and then ripping them off the Fog Wall before they get thru with a backstab! DS1, 3 and Elden Ring? INSTANT iFrames and you can't deny them going thru it. Best you can do is try to kill them before they get to the Fog but good luck with that with the Latency and super spammy rolls that cost no stamina... or just BHS in which case you might as well stop chasing and just wait. DS2 got a lot of flak but it was the bravest of the Souls Titles in terms of direction of how the game should be handled. I only wish it had more time to get polished and had a slightly better Net Code but the same can be said for all their Titles so whatever I guess lol. Maybe we will get a proper remake/remaster of DS2 and not just a rerelease of the same game with slightly moved around enemies and items. I could totally get behind a DS2 redo with a Demon's Souls makeover lol.

@@jooot_6850 Yeah... whomever is behind the direction of PvP should be slapped... hard... with a brick. Current state of PvP is... interesting as it is but it feels lacking. When I get killed or kill someone it doesn't feel like I outplayed them. Just that I either got a lucky One Tap with a Weapon Art or just spammed them to death with something silly. When I die it's usually to the same stuff that I just saw a moment ago. For a game with nearly limitless possibilities for builds you see a lot of the same stuff. Same spells, same armor, same weapons, same AoW and if you could see their Talismans/Rings they would all probably look the same too. There's no problem in adding Armor with special traits but they need to have MORE Armors with special traits or else you're just going to see a lot of the same ones over and over again. Bleeding White Mask of Varre anyone? Oh... everyone. Crow Chest Armor for Jump Damage anyone? Oh... everyone is using that too. One of my BIGGEST gripes with PvP currently is the buildup of Status Effects even if you dodged it. This was technically a problem in DS3/1 but it wasn't that bad even if it did Proc to deal damage to you. Now even if you dodge any of them they still stagger you. Madness and Sleep actually hold you in place which is a big problem. One thing I remember from DS2 is that Status Effect Buildup wasn't an issue even on dodged hits. Of course they only had Bleed and Poison at the time but still (not including Curse/Petrify but I'm speaking PvP here). Bleed was kinda a joke (tho it still worked in the right setting) and Poison was scary as hell. Neither of which would buildup unless you directly hit by someone using them. Why they didn't use this system from before is beyond me besides wanting to stick to their original coding from DS1/3/Bloodborne. Oh well... best we can do is hope for an improvement soon. I stopped playing Elden Ring a lot sooner than I was planning too simply because PvP just isn't satisfying anymore. It's just Dueling or getting Ganked by a... well... Gank Party. Hardly anyone is doing Story Based things and if they are it's super brief as their friends speed them thru an area within minutes. I'm at level 120 on several characters and 150 on a few and I can hardly invade anyone in any location besides the usual "Go To" spots but those get old after awhile. Eh... I'll just stop here. I'm rambling. You get my point I'm sure.

Give BHS a +~50% FP/Stamina cost debuff that stacks after each time it's used, lasting something like 3-5 seconds. It's still a powerful evasion tool now but attempting to use it to just time people out or spamming it 4, 5, 6, 7 times in a row isn't nearly so easy. You could even reduce the FP base cost by 1 (to 4) at that point and it'd still probably see a serious drop in abuse. Imo Quickstep could use similar treatment, it's slept on since BHS exists but at lower levels especially where there's lower FP pools to spam with it can be hella annoying. While they're at it- limiting it to the smaller/shorter weapon classes would be kind of nice. BHS double Pike setups are absolute torture and don't need to BHS more than once or twice every now and again anyways so this wouldn't really hit them. I'd not super mind maybe shaving an I-Frame or two off of the end of it but I'd be wary about overdoing that part of it, since at that point there's hardly much of a point to spend your Ash of War slot and FP on it over just a normal dodgeroll. I guess getting through Waterfowl Dance in the Malenia fight if you're melee and can't get the "roll past her" timing down would still be a thing.

If you get a hit in, they die easily. Even with 60 vigor, this would remain true. And by the way, if the feather physic makes it easy to exploit, then nerf the feather physic usage time. Or write an exception in the code for bloodhound step that prevents it from benefiting from the effects of the physic.
