My love affair with this band began in 1981. I saw this very Frontiers Tour in 1983 as a 15 year old fan. Journey was massively popular back then and they sold out 3 back2back shows in my hometown and I was so excited to see my favorite band live. They were magical together. I’m still a huge fan after all these years. To me...their music is truly timeless and sounds just as amazing, fresh and new as it did then. Journey On. Oh...and you should definitely react to “Mother Father” Live in Houston 1981. A true masterpiece.

I always thought of "Faithfully" as a country-influenced song. Jonathan Cain spent time in Nashville pursuing a country music career early in his musical 'journey' before joining Journey in 1981 for the 'Escape' album. Schon mimicking a steel guitar sound with the volume swells in the first couple of verses and the bend and releases near the end of the song where Perry sings ' I'm forever yours... are dead give aways as to the country influence too.

This video is from Journey's documentary called 'Journey Frontiers And Beyond'. It's about life on the road not only for Journey, but also for their road crew. It's very good! My personal favorite songs from Classic Journey are ......... 'Girl Can't Help It, Stone In Love (the bass is AMAZING), Mother Father (1981 live in Houston, Tx), Why Can't This Night Go On Forever, Still They Ride (studio version), I'll Be Alright Without You, Lights, Good Mornin' Girl, Little Girl, Message Of Love, Still She Cries, It's Just The Rain, Edge Of The Blade (studio version), After The Fall, Separate Ways (studio version), Too Late, Winds Of March, Escape (studio version), Some Day Soon, Daydream'. And I think that's about all!!....lol.... I am so grateful to have seen Classic Journey for this Frontiers tour back in 1983. They played in Houston, Tx for 3 sold out shows. And my best friend I went to 2 of the 3 shows! BEST nights of my life!! I also show them for their 1986 tour Raised On Radio, and that would be Steve Perry's journey with the band. And I also saw Steve Perry for his first solo tour in 1994. So I guess, I kinda love that man!!....lol...Enjoy!!!

Eric Clapton wanted Neal Schon to join him. But NS said that Carlos Santana offered a slot first! 🤯 NS, Greg Rolie left Santana to found Journey. Santana, Journey and I were born in San Francisco 🌁 I grew up on Steve Perry as lead singer. The Babys broke up. Jonathan Cain joined Journey as Greg Rolie retired until 1991. By then, he, Steve Smith and Ross Valory founded The Storm. Meanwhile, JC reunited with John Waite. NS joined. They founded Bad English. Great performances 🎭 The new singer is Arnel Pineda. He is from The Philippines 🇵🇭. He sang with Morissette Amon, David Foster and others.

@@trb2021 from Billboard Magazine: “ Singer/songwriter Jonathan Cain tells Billboard that he was notified in early 1984 that Prince wanted to speak with him. Curious, Cain went to Columbia Records’ offices in Los Angeles and took a call from Prince, who told Cain, “I want to play something for you, and I want you to check it out. The chord changes are close to ‘Faithfully'” - a top 20 single from Journey’s 1983 album Frontiers - “and I don’t want you to sue me.” After listening, Cain says, “I thought it was an amazing tune, and I told him, ‘Man, I’m just super-flattered that you even called. It shows you’re that classy of a guy. Good luck with the song. I know it’s gonna be a hit.’

The bands were great back then because there was something happening socially to be passionate about. There's a lull right now. I see no passion in the social group who are our age when it occurred back then. Plus, there was a united front back then. The songs spanded and united the races and women were finding their visibility and passions. If the songs weren't protesting the war in Vietnam, they were taking our minds off of it.

I once saw 2 MTV V-Jays talking about who is equal to Led Zeppelin. The other said it was Journey. 4 platinum albums, sold out arena concerts and stadiums. One of the lagest money making bands of the 80s. Lead voclas probably better than Robert Plant. Neal Scon guitar on par with Jimmy Page. Steve Smiths epic drums as good as Bonham. Keyboards and guitar of Johnathan Cain as good as John Paul Jones. When you hear all of their songs, hard to choose a favorite all are amazing. Good reaction but that dumb face thumbnail has to go.

You're missing a whole different side of Journey. This isn't the original band like you said. The original band was pre-Steve Perry and was more progressive rock. Their first three albums were with this lineup featuring Neal Schon and Gregg Rollie. You should take a listen to anything off their self-titled first album, like "Of a Lifetime" or the killer instrumental "Kohoutek". You're missing out.
