www.democracynow.org - Ukraine is in a state of crisis two days after the country's democratically elected president was ousted following months of street protests that left at least 82 people dead. On Saturday, Ukraine's parliament voted to remove President Viktor Yanukovych, a move Yanukovych described as a coup. Earlier today, Ukraine's new leaders announced the ousted president was wanted for mass murder of peaceful protesters. Russia condemned the move to oust Yanukovych and recalled its ambassador to Ukraine. Meanwhile, Europe has embraced the new government. European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton is traveling to Ukraine today to discuss measures to shore up Ukraine's ailing economy. One of Yanukovych's main rivals, former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, was released from custody. We speak to Timothy Snyder, professor of history at Yale University. His latest article for the New York Review of Books is "Fascism, Russia, and Ukraine." We also speak to University of Rhode Island professor Nicolai Petro, who is in Odessa, Ukraine.

Its a war of choice started by the russian federation. But the western leaning of the ukrainian people which deposed an eastern leaning president certainly motivated that. Nevertheless, an unecessary war like iraq and the prolonged occupation of afghanistan. At least a common enemy should help consolidate the ukrainian identity... humanitarian costs will keep rising though (on both sides). But in comparison, for putins russia there are only costs here...no winning or even a real definition of success visible (like iraq, afghanistan 1&2, vietnam, etc)

Zelensky should have made peace with Russia and sorted out the differences and concerns Russia had before the war…Negotiations would have been the way to go…But in return he allowed USA to exploit Ukraine and convert it into what it is today…they made Bio weapons close to the Russian Borders..Why? In the 70’s when Russia was friends with Cuba , USA had a problem with that because they felt at risk, and had a war with Cuba, then why shouldn’t Russia feel the same? USA has a habit of creating wars everywhere so that they can sell their weapons.

The people in eastern Ukraine probably never actually wanted to become independent, they just didnt accept to be ruled by a government that illegally replaced the one they voted for....(Donbas oficially boycotted the vote and had only a 15% voter turnout. Some guy here is suggesting to watch Ukraine on Fire from Oliver Stone to confirm that it was a “coup”! And i suggest: Watch it, all of you, a very good idea. And after that, watch “Winter on Fire”, almost with the same title, made long before this OS propaganda stripe, to reflect and to compare, why Russia and Stone wanted to record this new version, differently… In the first one you can see, how everything started, especially in 2013 on Maidan, and then, therefore, why OS got the order to do this own and different version? The similar title was to distract people not watching WoF, instead watching UoF, OS as a very good friend of Putin and quite famous. In his version he neither showed the beginning of the revolution, intentionally, because Russia wanted to name it like a COUP, even if it wasn’t. This came from Malofejew and his strategy papers. He knew that Yanukovich was unholdable and finishing to lead Ukraine. And he didn’t sign the association contract, because Russia told him this to do. He was in Kreml before. Just the fact, that this second version was made by OS, and got almost the same name, shows me, that Russia, with Malofejew and the russian ultranationalists, like Dugín, Girkin, Pushilin, Borodai, Gubarev, Saldostanov or Utkin, wanted this to be named a coup, and a junta, to get an excuse of there invasion on Crimea. This act needed a justification in front of his own people in Russia and in front of the world. Yanukovich btw, fled to Crimea and there he met some of these guys i mentioned. This plan of taking crimea was made long before, and the further steps to invade Donbass… So, everybody really should know, that Russia was staging it with exactly this strategy, obviously and 100% logic… Because if not, why they needed to lie again with the “little green men”…, inviting far right politicians around Europe to legalise an illegal made referenderum etc etc etc… Ukraine on Fire is therefore the best evidence that Russia was lying from the beginning till now, and all the world leaders know this…
