That's so true about John , he's so grounded and yes you do feel like you want to have a beer with him . I also the way he uses his humour and talks very fast that he may get a little anxious , and uses his humour cover it . I think he is a little bit shy , but not when he's in his music , he's right at home when he's in music and communicating through his music with his audience. Great bloke❤,who wouldn't open there door for him. Elsa does free performances to raise money for the bush fire appeals we had over hear and a few other charities included . Even if he sang like crap they would still have on his headstone , great , genuine bloke with a big heart.

You cannot help but love John. He was a two pack a day smoker and he stopped, he also stopped drinking. If you look back through the years you will see a chubbier John. I think he discovered food when he stopped smoking but he wasn’t chubby for long and it was late in his career that he stopped. I don’t know if he is up to his 4th or 5th goodbye tour. We went to the first one but then we moved away from Melbourne. He told us his wife or The Bride as he still calls Jilly told him to go back to work because she wasn’t having him lying around at home getting fat. I am pretty sure he will not be back again now. I think losing his friend and manager Glenn Wheatley who we loved as much as John, has finished him. And he will be 73 on the 1st of July. He may sing to honour Glenn but that will just be one song, not a concert. I hope so. The song John refuses to sing was his first hit at 18 called Sadie The Cleaning Lady. I have only heard him give in once and he made it faster and better. He sang it really well but his first manager insisted he be called Johnny and he hates it or as much as John can dislike something. The other song is Rain Drops Keep Falling on my Head. His first manager wanted every teen alive to hate him but every old lady to love him. I was barely a teen then but I thought he was a big Dork or Nerd. It was not cool to like him. Even though every song he did went to number one that manager almost ended his career and no radio station would play his music. Glenn let him be who he was born to be. No record company in Australia or America would give John a recording contract. So Glenn mortgaged his home and everything he owned because he knew it would be new and very expensive to make that album. Then no radio station would listen to his new album so Glenn brought FM radio to Australia. He changed how we heard music. The radio station’s surrendered because they were getting hundreds of requests a day to hear, You’re The Voice. It was the Whispering Jack Album. That album stayed at number one for six months, even Michael Jackson’s album couldn’t move it. So many songs on that album went to number one. No one here has ever broken John’s record of the most albums sold in Australia and they won’t. John and Glenn were family, we know their wives and kids names. Many here are still mourning Glenn’s loss from complications to Covid. I didn’t know he was in hospital for 3 months from Christmas. A week before he passed they told his family he was getting well and in March he was gone. As far as I know John has made one Statement since that day. He told us that he would make sure Gaynor and his kids were taken care of and he got a reporter to say it for him. I don’t know if John has even spoken since we lost Glenn. I did see one reactor who found an Original Sadie video the first time John sang it on Bandstand. He told us if he had seen that first he would never have known how great John was because he would never have listened to him again. He could always sing, he was born with that. My adopted beauty was born with that gift, we weren’t and we used to look at her and think, isn’t she cute. We never recognised her talent until we were told how good she was by someone in the industry. Zero musical talent in our family until she arrived. When I heard someone say John was born with his gifts I finally understood what they meant. You can’t be taught what he has naturally.

What a bloody delightful couple you are. Welcome from Australia. What you see with John is real. My daughter once asked me if it was okay for her to work at a wedding because they were short staffed and needed a worker. She was 15 at the time, so I gave her my permission. When she arrived there was a commotion going on and very nervous workers because there was someone famous at the wedding and they were all too nervous to serve him. Yes it was John Farnham so they asked my daughter to serve him and his wife. John absolutely adored my daughter and showed her his and his wifes new car from the balcony of the establishment. My daughter knew who he was but she's the sort of girl (and still is) who never makes a fuss so she was the perfect candidate to serve him and his wife. Also another piece of trivia for you that shows how humble this man really is. In the 70s he lost his fame and was reduced to being a doorman and he never complained. He's an incredible man. You two would fit in beautifully in Australia because you have the Aussie nature even though you are American. You are so much like the Aussies. I learnt something here, not so much about John but about how American culture has the capacity to appreciate a brand of humour which I thought, Americans would not appreciate. Self deprecating humour and deprecating witty banter, culturally, in Australia at least is a way of telling people that, we don’t consider them strangers, that we notice them and like them and consider them to be part of our cultural tribe enough to be that way with them regardless of one’s station in life. I’m sure it’s not just Australian and I’m delighted that an American Audience can appreciate the personable nature of what John is doing. John’s performances seem to be less of a rehearsed and scripted thing, although obviously his moves and vocal detail are practiced. John’s not afraid of playing with the crowd and being spontaneous and seems genuinely delighted to be there. Lots of warm smiles etc. John always seems to have time to interact with people and it’s not like he has to. He’s been entertaining people since he was a teenager. As you say he genuinely encourages respect and appreciation for the musicians that are on stage with him, actually, it’s almost as if that’s the one thing he seems serious about and he seems genuinely warm to his audience. I don’t know how he does it, I don’t know if it’s just a public persona or not and there’s another private side as a result of stardom which is darker, addiction, depression, rudeness, disrespect, violence problems. I hope not but it is a tragic reality for so many. Oh and you two are, in some ways like mr Farnham, bringing positive vibes to those of us that have discovered you. Both of you smile a lot and I personally think you both have beautiful smiles. You seem to, like John, genuinely enjoy being present, your brand of entertainment isn’t rehearsed with lots of spontaneity, smiling and positivity. Neither of you seem to take yourself too seriously and aren’t afraid to self deprecate and it feels engaging, honest and welcoming. It can’t be easy although you make it appear so. No idea if you have time to read these comments but respect and thank you for your courage and message of peace, love and well being to all.
@reactiontalk2 жыл бұрын
Your comment is very much read, appreciated, and taken to heart. We can't get enough of Farnham, his humor, his warmth, his engagement, his energy, his passion, his talent, and most of all his love for his audience and respect for his fellow humans. He is an example for all of us, yes you are correct, always stuff going on behind the scenes, but I don't think whatever struggles may exist take away from the genuine personality he portrays, he is loved regardless of his shortcomings by so many of us. His bigger gift has been the number of people he has brought together with his music, we have a large extended family in Australia now and couldn't be more grateful for all the wonderful people we have connected to because of him. Your sincere words of kindness do not go without discussion in our home. As me and Rollen banter back and forth across rooms, I will shout out today "Please read the wonderful comment from John Tillman in the Comic Conversation video". We try to understand how it is, that just a regular couple like us could have such a positive impact on so many, Rollen says to me "Honey, we are doing something right just by being us." It should feel like you are hanging out with us, laughing, cheering, enjoying Farnsey, we wouldn't want it any other way, thank you again, you are so very much appreciated! Cheers! Angie

I was just curious if you don't mind my asking what the case was for you? (And I am in no way saying that continuing to smoke is a way to not get it. Or a better route. I didn't know you were a smoker, Mike! I smoked moderately a pack a day for 28 years, quitting smoking was the easiest thing I've done, I can't manage to quit sugar since then but somehow, I put them down like it was nothing. Took me 6 weeks, I didn't even finish my last two weeks of patches. Then I had 1/2 a cigarette 6 months later due to stressful school situation, well I'm still convinced it is the highest I have ever been in my life for like 3 minutes. I couldn't even stand up. That was almost 5 years ago. The doc says any smoke is bad for the lungs, fire smoke, bon fires, any combustion is bad for the lungs. I believe it is constitution that determines how great the consequences are to our bodies. Rollen's dad is 87, mesothelioma, and still smoking away. Just plan on quitting before then. I learned it is an identity issue, if you can never see yourself as a non-smoker, you will never want to be a non-smoker. Big part for me anyway. Thanks for sharing!
