😠😳😠😳😠😳😠😳😠 I googled "Can police departments put a silver alert out?" Ai said this: "Yes, police departments can put out a Silver Alert when a missing person is an elderly person or has a mental disability. Who can issue a Silver Alert: Local police departments inform the state agency responsible for issuing alerts. The state agency then issues the statewide alert." So, WHY DIDNT THEY? That is not protecting and serving their citizens, which *is* their job. Yes, it's great to gave the happy ending for sure but SO many things could have happened to him, especially at 91!!

@@orektez My mother has Alzheimer's and is in a secure facility. I found that my mom's care home was not paying attention to the residents and one of the male residents (with dementia) was found SAing my mother. They moved the male resident out of the facility but did not tell me all the details. The police got involved (I might have had something to do with that...) and they found details of previous issues with this resident invading my mother's privacy and exposing himself. Now, I do not have any bad feelings toward the man since he had dementia and was not responsible for his actions, but I sure was PISSED at the facility for being slipshod and cavalier. I'm honestly glad that mom doesn't remember/realize what was going on. She was not injured, luckily. The staff that was supposed to be caring for her and monitoring her were disciplined. One was fired outright. The place is now under a new management organization (we'll see if it improves) but I took no chances and hired a hospice team for my mother; they come in often and check everything carefully. I show up randomly and ask questions, and I also check her room for anything "off" or otherwise unusual. The regular visiting doctor and nurses report back to me anything and keep me informed of any incidents, mom's ongoing issues and their progress, etc.

@orektez When they have severe dementia they won't remember visits anyway. I'm not saying family should give up--but the person they knew has gone and they're someone else now. It can be very very hard for family to visit because it's so difficult seeing someone you loved walk around but they're not there anymore. They get yelled at, berated, and no one is to blame it's just a tragedy all around.
@Olivewap
@Olivewap 2 ай бұрын
@@carlotta4th”they won’t remember anyway” is no excuse. They may not remember but we do. I don’t care how hard it is for family to see them that way, imagine how scary it is for them to wake up every day not knowing who they are in their own skin. These people need advocates in their lives, not cowards who don’t visit them because it’s too sad a sight to see.

If you are in the UK make sure you have 'Herbert Protocol' in place, if your family members are like to wander. The information makes it easier for police to find them. Explained.... The Herbert Protocol initiative is named after George Herbert, a War veteran of the Normandy landings, who had dementia and sadly died while he was 'missing' on his way to his childhood home. George Herbert didn't get this help but he's the reason others do now.

Those bracelets actually exist. I read in a local news report that folks in my county can get them. I sent the article to a friend whose mother has dementia, and likes to walk up and down the road, picking up litter(God bless her). Wish I could remember where you go to get one, but my best guess would be the health department. Our county is sparsely populated, so if they are available to us, they should be available to every county across the US.

It's not always that simple - true story. My friend had both parents still living in their own home with her father suffering from mixed dementia. A nurse was due to go out and visit her Father at home and my friend had said she must be there too and was to be contacted when this would happen. She wasn't contacted. She realised the visit had taken place (cameras everywhere!) and rang to ask why she wasn't contacted. The nurse apologised but explained "his wife was there and answered all the questions I had and I've explained it all to her... To which my friend said, his wife? My Mother? The one with Alzheimer's? 😂 This nurse had no idea, and her Mum could be very convincing. But had no idea who had been to the house when asked. In fact my friend regularly had to remind them both they were husband and wife. There's no ordinarily, usually, or normally with dementia. So pleased this gentleman was reunited with his family.

Amazing story. The man definitely had someone looking after him. That’s a long trip hitch hiking at any age, then to be found like this. Simply amazing.

Thank you, Jesus! Everything came together seemingly at random. It's not random at all. Finding him was orchestrated from above. Gotta love it!1!
