Crocs are good if you live somewhere that you have to walk to/from a shower or toilet trailer, especially through gravel. Ugly as sin and I'd never wear them for any other reason, but every other pair of shower shoes I owned during that part of my life would blow out within a couple of months.

Hahaha...Courtney, I am a metal artist and I walk old railroad tracks looking for nice old railroad spikes that I weld together to make ornate crosses with...One day while driving across an old railroad crossing I spotted a bunch of railroad spikes about 10' off the road. I pulled over and (in my crocs) walked to gather them...about 5ft away from them I indeed stepped on a 2" rusty nail that completely stabbed into my heel. I screamed in pain and had to "un-stab" the nail from my foot...I always wear wear boots at work and I was SO PISSED at myself for just jumping out while wearing my crocs. It was a very painful experience and healing took forever with a doctor visit to clean the puncture....so yeah guys, LEAVE THE CROCS AT HOME!!

I agree with most of these except the pointy dress shoes comment. It’s hard to find comfortable enough versions of those for a wider than average foot vs the flatter styles. Or maybe I’m not looking at the right brands.

Yeah you're absolutely not, any decent shoemaker will offer a range of lasts and shoebox styles. And if you're not buying your shoes from a shoemaker, but instead a fashion house that intends your purchasing to be a cyclical affair: rethink that.

For dress, I go with "Johnston & Murphy Hawthorn Cap Toe." Buy them big, so you can put a thick insert in them. Not too expensive, so you can buy a second pair to change them at noon, or every other day to let the leather dry. And I bring them, even if brand new, to a shoe repair store and have a non slippery pad glued on the bottom, heal and sole. This also prevents the main part of the shoe from damage. Leather soles are slippery and wear out quick.

7:00 Funny how women don't like what is healthy. Square toe shoes and shoes with wide toe boxes such as Barefoot shoes are really good for your feet because they allow for your toes to spread out. This in turn can prevent a whole host of ankle, knee and hip issues from arising. Why does look have to be more important than functionality especially when it comes to health? I would sy sod what women think I will do what is healthy for me.

Shoe design has developed over centuries, when we used horses for transportation. Meaning they are narrow to the toe for ease to kick in to stirrups. We just gotta get away from that.
@XxKINGatLIFExX
@XxKINGatLIFExX 9 ай бұрын
@@harlanjackson6112 Yes exactly. However, it is a relic that still exists in the psyche of women. At one point it showed status to have these kinds of shoes because it showed that you could ride a horse. However, our ancestors were not smart enough to realise that it screwed up your feet, knees, hips and posture. We need to try to brainwash women again to believe that barefoot shoes are a status symbol. Then we can have our health as men with the attraction of women. Who doesn't want a healthy man?

I had a good pair of Santos monk strap shoes, that I have now given a good shoeshine, storing them with shoe trees in a proper shoe bag. I intend to purchase some Weejun's from GH Bass, some Oxford shoes (unsure if I will go for wholecut or captoe), brogue derbies and likely some Chelsea boots and Chukka suede boots for the colder seasons. I don't mind paying an extra if I know it will last me a long time with maintenance. That's how I purchased my kitchen tools, mattresses and other equipment.

This was fun. I'm a dog trainer/Upland Bird Hunter and high quality, Thinsulite/ Gore-Tex lined 10 inch tall Danners or Red Wing Elk Tracker Boots are essential equipment for me. I use a small stainless cooking pot to melt the boot oil I use, and gob it on with a paint brush before rubbing it into the leather. Always use Kevlar Bootlaces. After a day in the field I use a Noma or Thermanator Boot Dryer to gently dry the boots out from the inside out. Chasing Pheasants often means marshy conditions and of course, soaking wet morning dew and later, snow and ice. And of course, always keep some terry cloth towels in the truck to dry your dog off and keep her nice and warm in the truck cab, and naturally if it's cold at night she sleeps under the covers right next to me. Anybody who has ever been around a real hunting dog knows what I'm talking about. Spoiled rotten.

I'm with you on the arch support, especially since I have high arches. Switching to well supported running sneakers and certain exercises saved me from chronic plantar fasciitis. But some, and even a minority of podiatrists favor a minimalist approach. They claim that shoes more akin to walking barefoot serve to keep the functional parts of the foots strong.

I love these boots! They do make everything I wear with them feel elevated. I even wore them with a printed tshirt to the Daytona Rolex 24 hour race a few weeks ago. They're comfortable enough now that they are broken in that I can walk all day in them without issues. I can't say that about my Koio leather sneakers unfortunately and I don't believe they can break in more than they already are. I would LOVE a pair of Nick's boots. Probably in natural leather. I just imagine those would patina so nicely. If I had the money I might like a pair of Viberg service boots in black maybe idk. I got sucked into the boot thing too a while back. Anatomically, there is 0 requirement for arch support, bar mangled feet genetics. Your feet are evolved(in some cases devolved due to use of shoes) to be without support at all. Anyway thays beside the fact. Hey dudes are like sandals, the most extreme side of casual. They are basically kicks you wear out to the beach or something you quickly throw on, with shorts, to the grocery store. You don't wear them to be fashionable. Regardless wear whatever is appropriate for the situation.

Real Men™ wear shoes that meet their needs in any given situation, and they don't care what shoes KZbin videos tell them to wear. Also, "arch support" is a myth; your arches are supported by the muscle tone in your calves, where the muscles that bend your toes and curl your feet are located. Wearing shoes without "arch support" forces those muscles to strengthen, which is what's supposed to happen. Square-tored dress shoes look fine and are vastly more comfortable than pointed-toed dress shoes are, which any woman can also tell you. I would never want a woman to wear dress shoes that mangle her toes the way pointed-toed high heels do, and I won't do the same to my feet either. Oh, and I owned a pair of Clarks padded leather sandals with straps back in the day, and they were SUPER comfortable on hot days. And yes, I wore them with socks, to keep my feet clean while still having much better ventilation than sneakers. No I don't care about the stereotype. They made my feet happy. That being said, I do like your videos in general. This is just one specific video that doesn't need to exist.

Excellent advice, Courtney, on the worst types of shoes that men wear. -Women truly appreciate shoes, and I've never understood why so many men don't understand that one of the first things a woman notices about how a man dresses is the style and quality of his shoes. As a fifty-eight year old man, I have completely retired sneakers, sandals, and boots from my wardrobe. Whether I'm wearing a suit, or a navy blazer with grey flannels, or a tweed sport coat with khaki chinos, I always wear medium brown quarter brogue oxfords, or full brogue wingtips in a walnut colour, or brown basket weave loafers or tassel loafers, all made by Allen Edmonds. Worn with a thin cushioning insole, these dress shoes are just as comfortable to wear as sneakers and they are a hundred times more stylish.

I find Hey Dude shoes to be the PERFECT summertime shoe to wear in the urban Arizona desert heat. I don't wear socks when temperatures are in the triple digits and the Hey Dude shoes are light-weight and they breath well, thus keeping my feet cooler than if I were to wear athletic/tennis shoes. The casual look also goes well with the laid-back urban western lifestyle. By the way, white tennis shoes paired with anything other than athletic shorts make you look like an escaped senior citizen from an old-folks home . . . I don't care what age you are . . . white athletic shoes with pants looks childish or old and decrepit. I also wear nice leather flip-flops made by Olukai (Hawaiian), but only when wearing shorts. Of course, when outside the urban environments, sturdy outdoor shoes are necessary for the desert southwest. Cowboy boots are still very common and functional.

I watched a similar video from Antonio Centenio a while ago, and after that started investing in nice footwear, mainly boots (Chelsea, dress boots) as well as sports shoes for specific purposes (basketball, walking) . Kept a pair of low cut Chuck Taylors just for my daily walks but otherwise I don’t wear sneakers to work. Great video , Courtney!

Courtney, you mentioned timeless and craftmanship. Shoes are an investment aimed at quality, being an older man I have found this is true if your buying a blazer or shoes. I take care of my shoe polishing and cleaning but once a year my dry cleaner also uses a cobbler and when I pick them up they look new, the laces replaced and it's inexpensive for what you get.

I went from white leather Nike tennis shoes to more durable hiking shoes/boots, and the brown & black design give it a certain mature look while they're versatile in use and they last! Thought I'd share a good option of type of footwear since I also dislike all these shoes mentioned in this video.

Most of my shoes are “form follows function.” I wear Salomon hiking shoes for every day. Since they are pricey I don’t do walks in them- hikes in nature yes, but for pavement I use running shoes. For business casual I wear topsiders (which I wore when they were all the rage and actually used for boating in the early 80’s) and for semi formal I have a pair of brown wingtips custom made while I was in the Middle East. I don’t like buying clothes so I go with timeless and avoid fads.

Your opinions are directly on point without any doubt in my mind. Each item directly reflected my own personal opinions. Especially those UGLY Crocs which my wife wears gardening. She doesn´t wear them outside of the yard so that is a good thing, but I cannot see her gardening without thinking that they´re ugly every time.

I skate and I hate the puffy shoes. Yes I wore them back in the mid 2000s when it was new and innovative. We’ve come a long way since then and modern day shoes that are slimmer, have more tech, and even more durable. I couldn’t wear the puffy ones anymore just because of the performance. They have very little board feel and yeah they’re not something I’d pick up anymore

I have a sneaking suspicion we have a very different outlook on shoes. My view on shoes is the same as my view on watches or cars... use what suits the purpose. For instance if I'm going trail hiking I wear Altra trail running shoes, but if I'm going backwoods hiking I'm wearing a boot. In either of those cases the watch I'm wearing is either my G Shock or my Hamilton Field Khaki. Here's why... they work in those environments. Honestly, unless I need to wear a suit or I'm out on a boat I'm probably wearing a Field Khaki. If I'm wearing a suit I wear Oxfords and a dress watch. If I'm on a boat I wear shoes appropriate to the type of boat I'm on and a dive watch rated at 300 meters. PS my absolute pinnacle of shoe to wear around the inside of the house clicks not one but two of your no go shoes... Crocks flip flops. They sit right inside the door so when I get home I can take off my outside shoes and slip them on. Are the ugly? Yes, they are. But, they're insanely light and comfortable, and they last forever with indoor use. Slippers and house shoes only last me four to six months before they need to be replaced. My ugly "Crocks flops" last much longer. I'm on only my second pair since 2009.

While waiting for my friend at one of the top night clubs in London, I noticed a group of young ladies commenting and criticising the men around the club. I started a conversation and then asked their opinion about my style. One of the ladies pointed at my shoes and said they were not nice. That was a shocker because until that point I always chose shoes based on convenience and utility and did not imagine that anyone notices them. When I finally met the Italian friend I was awaiting for, I told him what just happened, and he agreed that my shoes were not nice. I was like, dude why you never told me! I told the story to my colleagues too and they confirmed. That was quite a realisation! I always pay attention to the shoes I wear from now on especially when going out. I do from time to time fallback to the utilitarian mindset when I go to the gym.

The only shoe I would wear on this list is Crocs, and it's for one reason that places them above all of the others: the shape. Crocs are more foot-shaped than any of the other shoes here, so they're the only shoes I'd consider, but I've never worn Crocs in my life and don't have any plans to. All of these other shoes have a high chance of causing bunions and weakening your feet. Arch support is actually not necessary at all most of the time, and I naturally overpronate, or at least I used to. Arch support, like orthotics, are braces, and a brace is something that you wear while you heal an injury, or to stabilize a problem area of the body. Arch support is meant to be temporary, so if you need it to function properly, then you likely need to change how you move. I found out that my ankles hurt so much because I was putting my weight on the inside of my feet, rather than the outside. I thought I had flat feet, but my arches had just collapsed. After about 7 months of wearing barefoot shoes and relearning how to stand, walk, run, and whatever else, I don't have any ankle pain, my muscles in my feet and legs are stronger, and the arches in my feet are doing great. What are barefoot shoes, you ask? They can be defined by 4 factors: thin, flexible, flat, and foot-shaped. The soles of these shoes are usually anywhere from 3mm-10mm thin, you can roll them up into a ball because they're so thin and flexible, there is no arch support or heel lift as they are completely flat, and the toe box is shaped like a foot to allow our toes to spread out naturally and do what they're meant to do. A few of the pairs that I own are the Vivo Barefoot Addis in all black, the Splay Freestyle in pine, and the Be Lenka Winter Boot 3.0 in walnut brown. All great looking, comfortable, and healthy. Another great thing about barefoot shoes is that most of the companies have ethics as a high priority, so you'll see many made in Europe or in nice facilities in Asia, no cheap labour here, and they use ethically sourced/ environmentally friendly materials. Pointy shoes may look nice, but they're literally ruining your body. You get used to the clown-like appearance of barefoot shoes pretty quickly. 😅
