Probably one of the saddest Carols. Esp when u remember the fact of what the song is remembering. Its about the child Massacre that King Herod ordered after the Magi visited him proclaiming a baby king had been born so Herod ordered the massacre of all baby boys under the age of 3. I feel like this is something that's kind of swept under the rug at Christmas as we see Joseph in a dream being told to flee to Egypt and its mentioned why but its something that's often glossed over.

Coventry Carol Christmas Carol Lyrics Lullay, Thou little tiny Child, By, by, lully, lullay. Lullay, Thou little tiny Child. By, by, lully, lullay. O sisters, too, how may we do, For to preserve this day; This poor Youngling for whom we sing, By, by, lully, lullay. Herod the King, in his raging, Charged he hath this day; His men of might, in his own sight, All children young, to slay. Then woe is me, poor Child, for Thee, And ever mourn and say; For Thy parting, nor say nor sing, By, by, lully, lullay.

It laments a horror.

It sounds like someone has pressed the fast forward button. By speeding up the tempo losses so much of the power and magic of what normally is an amazing haunting song. Hate to sound like the comic book guy but worst rendition ever!

Gordon Matthew Sumner has gone by the name Sting since his 20s, well before he was famous as a member of The Police. He has said his children call him that and that someone could yell out 'Hey, Gordon!' in public and he wouldn't even turn around... it just doesn't register with him anymore.
