Honestly, this "cowardice" is a thing I hate when in a leadership position. Currently, in 2AD, we are facing the same problem, people discharge because they're "bored" or want to join a new unit when the division isn't the best as of now, partly because of poor leadership and lack of a CG. People want to see the good and not the bad, so when a division is at its lowest, people leave so they can save themselves from the fire instead of helping to put it out.

This video shows the problems in lego groups. Most high ranks barely do anything nowadays and when everything goes sour they just leave or stay there and still do nothing. It's very annoying to say the least, only very big groups have most high ranks host events and that is probably because they force them to since they have a big choice of people to promote. But in smaller groups you are either forced to do everything yourself or find somebody who will actually do stuff and do it good(very rare). Besides that, there's also the problem of people defecting to another side when they are met with punishments of sorts. Like I remember I was in a medieval group which was doing VERY good. Some division leader became the temporary ruler, even though we told the actual ruler to not make him one many times. Then that ruler made a huge mistake moving the group from a succesful genre to some random shithole or fantasy genre like "Seven Kingdoms" I don't remember. He got deposed by the true leader and demoted to his previous rank, he got mad and left with his division to the enemy side which the group was almost winning in a 30v40 men battle. After he defected with the division it turned into a 19v40 making the faction decisively lose. A similar situation was expected by me and the council members, but we did not know it was gonna go this grave. This is a recent story and right now the group is kind of on life support with the salty guy becoming a field marshal again somehow...

This is a problem, even in my unit, which is the 2AD. We have shitty instructors and maybe leadership (including me i have to admit, i dont really active much)
