My wife asked him what is it, he says Cowboy Kent's cook book. (sorry about this) my wife says who is that? Ryan's replies " Only the greatest Cowboy cook in the world" He also told her he has some very cute doggos. Needles to say Ryan and I are big fans of you Shannon and the pups. Keep on cooking and spreading your faith and love for this country. God bless you and your family.

I'm drooling. 😁 Never baked a pie over a campfire, but grew up making them regularly. Dad's favorite - and had to have a good slice of room temp sharp Cheddar cheese with it, which I do today. Mom taught me to use lard for the crust, and we rolled it thin between sheets of waxed paper. So flaky it'd want to fall apart when you served it. We sliced our apples super thin, too, so they'd melt in your mouth. It was imperative you piled them high! Cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar on top (it made it all the way through), dot generously with butter, and drizzle with 1/8 cup or so of leftover strong tea. (Mom grew up in Idaho in the 20s and 30s. Wasn't always able to get lemons, but tea was always available!) It didn't need thickener, the butter did the work. OMG good! LOL, I need to get some Granny Smith or Jonathans or McIntoshes... I'm so glad I live in Oregon!

I have tried many of Kent’s recipes. Most are very good. After making this recipe, I have to say this is the best apple pie I have ever had. I added the optional cinnamon to the crust and cooked in regular pie pan with a lattice top crust. The only thing I did different was to cut the apple slices in half. I think it makes for better bites. Thanks to Kent and Shannon for another great recipe and video!
