Kent, I have made a number of your recipes and enjoyed every one. I made this for me and my room mate (we are both closer to 60 than well, 59). This man was raised in a house where his mother boiled everything until it was not identifiable. I made this the first time and he had a plate. I have mentioned my fussy room mate in previous posts, and he has always liked your recipes. This time he ate a few bites and said to me, "This is a home run!" I think that was an understatement. I have a friend who has "Orphan" Christmas or Thanksgiving for those of us who either don't have family or can't be with them on the holidays. As a thank you, I went there last week and made this for his family, it was a huge hit.

The earliest recipes of shepards/cottage pie was meat and veg, usually carrots and other root veg. So your recipe is pretty spot on to the original . Years ago, people that lived in the villages, usually in small cottages, used to use potatoes when they were running low on flour during the winter. The flour was saved for bread making. Thanks for the video, really enjoyed it.

I've used more veggies and left out the cream. - Mince: olive oil for frying, minced meat (beef + lamb), onions (red, yellow, grated), celery (grated), carrots (grated), zucchini (grated), garlic cloves (pressed), tomato paste, corn, Sambal Oelek, red wine, beer, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, selfmade vegetable broth powder, dried Parsely. - Potatoes: mashed potatoes (dried powder), water, milk, egg yolk, grated parmesan, salt, pepper, garlic powder. - Topping: Grated Parmesan for sprinkling It was soooo delicious. Thank you and a big virtual hug. Greetings from Germany, Frank

Sounds amazing. I’ve always heard Shepard’s Pie is lamb, and homesteader’s pie is ground beef.
@Mitters5 жыл бұрын
In North America we call what is actually cottage pie “Shepard’s Pie”. Most North Americans don’t even realize Shepard’s Pie is supposed to be made with lamb, and cottage pie is ground beef. I think he called it Shepard’s Pie / Cottage Pie at the start though 👌👌 Edit: to clarify further, the main difference between cottage pie and Shepard’s Pie, other than the meat use, is the consistency. Shepard’s Pie usually holds together fairly well, vs., cottage pie has a bit more of a “gravy”. So essentially this recipe is a good mix between the two. He used the ingredients you’d make for a cottage pie, with the consistency of the Shepard’s Pie. Although I wouldn’t call this a true Shepard’s Pie OR cottage pie without peas 😂😂 classic America

I'm the cook for our local Mason's Lodge. Prior to covid, we did monthly Swiss Steak dinners. The left over swiss steak and gravy made fantastic Shepard's pie. Just added corn and green beans and the sealer, mashed potatoes. Daubed some butter on top to crisp up the top.
