Been eating shepherds (cottage) pie since i was a kid in the 70's. My mum never bought ground beef. She would buy a chunk of meat and mince it herself. I shared this creation with my Mother, and my neighbor, and they all agree it's also the best shepherd's pie they ever had. I hope this recipe is in the new cookbook that's coming out in March of 2023. If it's not, then I'll have to write it down. Mr. Kent Rollins is a God send.

Our famly homestead was in Cloud Chief just outside of Cordell...My Aunt Liddie (never married..iived into her 90's) had a beautiful farm there that I grew up visiting for weeks every summer. She got up at 4am and milked 8 cows every morning....and then we had breakfast...this was all local and foods from the farm...(incuding the thick bacon)...cooked over a wood stove in the kitchen...to this day, some of the best food I ever ate. Hi CK I'm Chris from Lancaster England. About 3 to 4 months back, KZbin offered you as an option to watch, and I'm trully glad they did. I love watching and listening to you for three main reasons: 1 You are great entertainment. 2 You are clearly a very moral man 3 I am learning heaps from you!! At 57 years old, I am learning sooo much. Love your videos, and especially love your video on cooking beef Steak!!! One thing I have a question on, you say Shepherd 's Pie is also known as Cottage Pie. My understanding is that Shepherds Pie uses Lamb mince, whereas Cottage use Beef mince. Any thoughts Kent? Please CK, KEEP EM VIDEOS COMING SIR!!

Kent, I have made a number of your recipes and enjoyed every one. I made this for me and my room mate (we are both closer to 60 than well, 59). This man was raised in a house where his mother boiled everything until it was not identifiable. I made this the first time and he had a plate. I have mentioned my fussy room mate in previous posts, and he has always liked your recipes. This time he ate a few bites and said to me, "This is a home run!" I think that was an understatement. I have a friend who has "Orphan" Christmas or Thanksgiving for those of us who either don't have family or can't be with them on the holidays. As a thank you, I went there last week and made this for his family, it was a huge hit.

Totally agree with all comments that looks fantastic, just one criticism, I'm from the UK and when I was staying in hotel Roanoke, Roanoke, Virginia, did most of my eating in the hotel as the food was outstanding, they made the same mistake, I ordered shepherds pie and was so disappointed to find it was not shepherds pie but cottage pie, they are 2 completely different dishes, cottage pie is made with ground beef and shepherds pie as you should guess from the name is ground lamb, as far as cottage pie goes this looks the best and tastiest I've seen, and yes you should get your own TV show, your Scotch eggs also looked stunning, love your channel I recently subscribed and after watching a few of your videos, have gone out and purchased a cast iron skillet and Dutch oven, thanks for the great content.

Shepherds pie is mashed spuds fluffed up to to look like sheep’s wool, cottage pie is sliced tates made to look like roof tiles on a cottage. Thank you sir your channel is brilliant! If you had aeroplanes it would be perfect. No Michelin stars, no restaurant reviews just Top hats, top moustache, top food, top criac, top scenery. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Sir you are awesome, all the best from the uk! which is probably smaller than your yard!

Exactly, difficult to find an actual Shepherd's pie in Texas, all say Shepherd's pie when in actuality is Cottage pie. Gordan Ramsay's take on actual Shepherd's pie is awesome. Have made several times. Kent's version is really good as well. Grating the veg is a key.

I love celery in sooooo many dishes, to me .... it's like using onion and garlic, lol. I use all three in almost everything. This looks scrumptious!! The most genuine, true to himself guy I've seen on any cooking Channel, ( even television) ...without the huge ego of some of those " Chefs ". ( Ego is a needed, but it's when the Ego is balanced, that's the Magic). I was married to a Chef that was so good at what he did, but had the humility and genuineness to match. Kent and Shannon... they're the Real Deal. So refreshing. 🙏🏻🔪🍽🍳🥣🍲🧈🇺🇸💛

Like most who ever regularly dined in a college dormitory I have few fond memories of the "cuisine"... but there is one exception. Ours had a wonderful Shepherd's Pie. I'd never had it before and can't recall having it since, but this recipe has inspired me to give it a try. Looks fabulous... can't wait to give it a try.... now that I think of it, the college served it with beef gravy, too. The ultimate comfort food.

@Mitters

In North America we call what is actually cottage pie “Shepard’s Pie”. Most North Americans don’t even realize Shepard’s Pie is supposed to be made with lamb, and cottage pie is ground beef. I think he called it Shepard’s Pie / Cottage Pie at the start though 👌👌 Edit: to clarify further, the main difference between cottage pie and Shepard’s Pie, other than the meat use, is the consistency. Shepard’s Pie usually holds together fairly well, vs., cottage pie has a bit more of a “gravy”. So essentially this recipe is a good mix between the two. He used the ingredients you’d make for a cottage pie, with the consistency of the Shepard’s Pie. Although I wouldn’t call this a true Shepard’s Pie OR cottage pie without peas 😂😂 classic America
