Outstanding looking homemade bread. I love how it turned out. Fresh butter would be great on that bread. My dad, who turned 92, this month, said that long ago on the farm, in Alberta, his mother would make him sandwiches for his school lunch that had homemade bread, butter, cucumbers and lettuce, from the garden. He said they were so good. Cheers, Kent and Shannon! ✌️

Is their a cooking show you don't watch? Everyone I've ever watched has your comment under it. My grandmother would bake (2) loaves a day for no telling how many yrs. The butter sat right beside them, along with the bread knife. Sure was good anytime of day. I was lucky i lived just across the road. Went everyday and ate fresh bread, sugar cookies, and sweet tea. With good conversation.

Somebody knows old school brad making. I fill a pie tin with a half inch of water and put it on the bottom rack of the oven while the bread bakes. Old school is buttering the outer crust after the loaf comes out of the pan--it is supposed to soften the crust as the bread cools.

That does look like a mighty fine loaf of bread. Very straightforward recipe too. A lot of bread amateurs overlook which slice of bread you ought to use. As professional bread aficionados, we all know that the heel is the crème de la crème of the loaf. I'd cut a nice thick heel slice, baste it with butter, and top it with some cheesy goodness. Then I'd go outside and fire up the grill and recreate the perfect grilled cheese sandwich. I'm talking about a mountain of yellow American, cheddar, mozzarella, pepper jack, and grated jalapeño along with some garlic and parmesan to top it all off. It doesn't get any better than that. Thank you for all the great recipes and God bless you, Shannon, the pups, and Gladys and the girls

If the bread is still warm, There is nothing better than some warm melted butter to go with it. If it is cooled off, but it’s still good and fresh, then I like a good old fashion peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The fresh bread makes it amazing! I don’t have these much anymore, but when I have a good bread like this it reminds me of being a kid again And is worth the calories as long as I have a cool glass of milk to go with it. Thanks for all you do Kent and Shan, And for always remembering us vets.

Hey Kent, that looks like a great, easy bread recipe. I always love the way freshly baking bread makes the house smell. It always reminds me of the holiday season. A great topping for that bread would be to smother it with garlic butter and a LOT of shredded mozzarella cheese in the last 3 or 4 minutes of baking...for that delicious, melty, goodness. Then, after slicing, serve it with some pico de gallo for a "healthy", bruschetta appetizer.

That meant we got to can a lot of sweet and tangy apricot jam...also known as "pure love" in our family. We're using ol' Mac & Stella Hughes' apricot jam recipe. Once our bread is cooked (minus the onion and garlic powder), we're going to be topping it with a generous amount of room-temperature butter and some of our homemade "pure love". Each bite will put a smile on your face, guaranteed! :)

Howdy, Mr. Kent and Miss Shannon. That is some mighty fine lookin’ bread you got there. I never thought of putting garlic and onion powder in the dough, but that sounds delicious. Unfortunately, I don’t have a deep 14” Dutch oven, so I’m having to cook mine in the oven. As for a topping for said bread, since it’s a savory bread, I’m thinking a slab of homemade meatloaf, brown mustard, a slice of onion, maybe a slice of cheddar cheese, with a dill pickle and chips on the side, and a cool libation of one’s choice to round off the meal.

I can't wait to try this recipe. My topping would have to be some good homemade Mayhaw jelly. My grandmother made Mayhaw jelly every year when I was young and all the family would get at least one jar. Simple but good bread recipe. I use to put a couple rolled up tubes of aluminum foil under the bread pan for air circulation while cooking. As always bread is best with butter. God bless

I give my bread a split down the middle with a knife and put a bead of melted butter to bake right in like my mother . Oh and top when toasted with butter and lime curd 😊

Another fun video. We are looking forward to making this recipe. Since you have added garlic powder or onion powder or maybe both, I think I would like to grilled/toast some slices with mashed avocado slathered on top. UM UM Good! A hug back to you, Shan and all the dogs!

Homemade bread brings back so many memories.. My favorite was lightly toasting the bread with garlic butter and making Spaghetti Sandwiches. Yes it sounds odd, but oh so good! But if we went camping there was nothing better than making those mountain pies, Pizza, Apple pie or a good ole cheese pie.. Thanks for the videos and the recipes always great!!

gotta love that homemade bread. Since it has garlic powder in it, it would be great with a nice EVOO dipping oil.

Thanks Kent & Shan. Wife and I made 'your' bread yesterday and it turned out delicious. We were wondering how the Garlic and Onion were going to do and the extra flavor was a fantastic addition. Keep em' coming!

I would top it with cheese, and no, not just throw a piece of cheese on it, I would put some shredded cheese on top while it’s still warm, or even mix it in the dough so it becomes cheese bread. It looks amazing as always Kent! Can’t wait to try it :D
