Cowl Intake 2J Racing I Focus RS Install

you could get a cowl from the scrapyard. I got 3 lol. I messed up the first one but if you wanted a stealth look, you could use a heat gun and mold it to fit quite nicely. That's what i did but I heated it up at a very high temp :) I was having fun with it since I had 2 more. so instead of vinyl, you could just get a nice oem look. good video! this intake is so loud that I can't hear my hks bov anymore. I'm planning to install a metal undertray with a hole at the bottom and make louvers so then I could hear the hks again.

I was thinking about going to the junk yard but I settled and bought both from a dealership for 375$ haha. That cowl idea is awesome! I didn’t even think about heating it up to mold it. The bottom cowl is fiberglass isn’t it? How did you end up molding that? The intake is so loud for sure, I can’t even hear my bov anymore either! I would love to see some pictures of your intake. @@JaredKunnath I had the use a dremel and cut the bottom cowl. I would send you pics but it looks horrible lol and I didn't bother to redo it since it can't be seen unless anyone looks for it. Since you have the nice blue intake, its better to have it visible. Mine is not powder coated as i was fairly confident i could mold it so it wont be seen.

also, no one mentions the annoying drone while cruising on the highway. unless you play loud music, it is annoying. This needs to be said for anyone considering buying this intake.

@@jessen007 you’re right. I probably shouldn’t cover it haha it is a nice color. I will make an update in the next few videos. I 100% agree the drone from the intake can get annoying. I got use to it since I’ve had it on for a while. It is fun to get on it though and hear the noises!

hey bud, what is that tubing you put around the intake pipe coming outta the cowl? what size is it n such?

How did you remove the wiper? I got the JBR 3” intake pipe installed on my ST and installing that with the cowel on was a pain in the butt. Was just wondering. Someone told me to lift up by the hinge and it’s suppose to release some clip on the wiper motor screw/bolt (for lack of a better word I guess.) but mine didn’t release. Clean install.

Thanks a lot! To remove the wipers, all you have to do is take the nut off and wiggle the whole wiper up and down. Usually they are on there very tightly so you’ll have to use quite a bit of force. Lining them back up after you take them off is kinda a hassle, so you could mark them with something to make sure they go back on straight. Also with the cowl there are two parts to it. The top piece that the wipers go through, and a bottom piece below that. You’ll need to take both off. The bottom piece is held on by two bolts and a few push pins. The top is held on by a few bolts and push pins aswell. I hope this helped 👍🏻

Yes I have. No problems with taking in water at all! The cowl always stayed dry for me

Performance wise probably a Cobb. This is nice, but the Cobb has a larger diameter pipe for air flow

@@JaredKunnath I just bought this. Can you please tell me why you switched? Ran into any problems? I read about the drone. Didn’t see that before buying. Also, I read that the sock changes the sound. Have you tried without the sock?

@@joeyariascoots the intake is a riot haha it’s fun and really loud. I didn’t switch because It was a problem. I’m running a new turbo set up in a few weeks and the intake won’t work with it. I haven’t tried without the sock and I would probably keep in on for safety

@@JaredKunnath i have installed the same 2jracing intake for my ST and the sound 100% depends upon the turbo, i have used it for both stock and gtx 2867 gen2 turbos. for stock one the intake sounds like a vacuum cleaner (louder than bigger turbo and wasn't happy with it) while 2867 is whistling with less loudness and loving it.

How in the world did you get the hose on the bottom of the air intake on??? The clamp screws are to short. When I loosen them enough to get the hose on I can’t get the bolt back on.

Are you talking about where the boot connects to the turbo or the ventilation hose? The vent hose was tough. You do have to push it in VERY hard

@@JaredKunnath where the boot connects to the turbo. I was only able to get it about half way onto the turbo. I took my time, soaked the tube in hot water to flex it, and used a dab of water from my finger to create more slickness. My reasoning is that it will probably be okay because the stock tube clamp is smaller and fitment was not this tight. The other thing is that the intake pipe is a smaller than the boot. I tightened up the clamp but was left with a tiny part on the boot that was open. So it’s not sealed up 100%. I could tighten it up more but I’m afraid that bolt will snap off and then I’d have to do the job all over again. That would be a nightmare. Wrap up the little opening on the boot with duck tape to seal it up? Lol.

@@joeyariascoots oh boy lol I didn’t have that much of a problem with it. I also clamped it down REALLY tight. I don’t think you would break it. I also wouldn’t use tape haha. I put the coupler on the intake outside of the car and then put the whole thing in to tighten on the turbo. Do you have a boost leak? If so I would keep tightening it if not I wouldn’t worry

I actually have one. I didn't know I was going this route with the intake, but the big mouth will still introduce fresh air into the engine bay. I believe it would still help. Probably not a lot but at least a little.

Why trap the intake in behind where there is less air ?

Air gets pushed into the cowl through the vents while driving. There isn’t less airflow. It would be about the same as in the engine bay

@@JaredKunnath you do realize that the air gets push into the front of the vehicle when you’re driving, which makes it more efficient to have the intake in front of the ram air. Instead you have placed it where there is significantly less air and hotter air temperatures considering you have moved it to the exhaust side of the engine just trying to understand the logic? Or is it just for cool noises ?

I don’t have the intake anymore after I went with a sidewinder turbo kit also. Just thought it was a cool intake that hasn’t been posted anywhere yet

Haha yes it is. You shouldn’t have to clean the filter often though. It does have a hydrophobic sock on it and also is in the cowl so I figure most dirt and dust would have a hard time getting into the filter.
