It's pretty sad they got rid of the A run steelhead that I used to catch with my guide buddy Don Kinsey in October December. We used to fish the river year-round back in the '90s when I was a kid but the river has completely changed and no fall Chinook production from the hatcheries.

@@nicholaswarren3776 it's just a shame that we used to fish at year round and there was always some type of salmonoid in the river. Plus wildlife and game Justification for getting rid of the A run was because it's not natural.. they do realize the summer steelhead aren't natural to the cowlitz right?

your videos a great, would be nice if you went into more detail on how to fish and setup the technique you are using, when you jig do you jig it off the bottom or do you try to keep touch with bottom

Both. I do explain techniques in almost all the videos just not as a tutorial or instructional video. I try not to sound like an expert or someone who thinks they know it all. I have a boat as well and I’m wondering, if on the river. Do you not prefer to just anchor and shore fish instead of mostly fishing while boating against current to stay in the spot you want to fish? Love your videos btw

This is a Smokercraft Sportsman 1660. 16ft long, 60 inches floor width. I picked this up in Oregon 5 years ago for $13500. The new 1872 is super sweet with 80hp.

Wow great content .i just ran across your channel 2 weeks ago . im only 55 now but i grew up on Burnt ridge bout 5 miles from barrier dam (salkum). what a childhood ,first wild steelhead two years before watching st helens blow the mountain apart for 3 months .the volcano view point with all the news media was 1/4 mile or so from our house so we got to see the whole event every day tell may 18 ,when it seemed like to a 11 year old kid, a million nuclear bombs took out the whole north face and most of our dreams of giant wild steelhead and huge fall run chinook ! But the mighty cowlitz took one for the team (us anglers) 1980to 85 was some of the best (surplus runs) huge spring chnook and fall returns 60000+ i had many friends who's dad were fulltime river guides so i was always out in the sled. There is no feeling in the world like dropping in to Bakers rock back bouncing 3oz and one of those giant fall run freaks takes it ! (Gota love the cowitz) and her windstorms

People like you need to do some fucking research before posting retarted ass comments. There are no more wild fish. If a clipped hatchery fish spawns in the wild, does the babies get clipped? Obviously fucking not. The entire Columbia river was closed for the month of September because we hit the impact levels quickly, so they manage the fuck out of these fish so we don't overuse them. Use Google before posting ass comments.

I fish the Cowlitz from the I-5 bridge up and down for many years using jet boat and drift boat so because of High fuel prices I have a new plan! I have a 19-foot Dory build 85% done then I am running a 50 hp outboard with prop for the next go around fishing trips. My 28 foot jet boat with a Chevrolet Bib Block 402 is way to spendy to use now. I'm also turning the Dory into like a power drifter with Oarsman seat up front and Hugh Oars for floats using the Boon dogging or bobber drifting .
