Nice fixer upper. I see lots of ideas of my own. The living area, I'd leave the floor joists exposed and paint or cover the ceiling in between a light color. Put a skylight/ window near the coat/ shoe area. Under the steps in the kitchen. I'd put a full length door where the spice rack is and make a pullout pantry behind it. If there's enough room to utilize it as such. Make the downstairs bedroom into an office area for both of you together. Put the washer/ dryer on the perhaps outside wall. In the same room. That would give you a larger deck area outside. Put the mini-split above it as it is now. Or put it in the master bedroom upstairs. If it's a dual zone type. You could do both bedroom and office/laundry room. I don't know how big the downstairs bedroom is. So that would be the deciding factor on that. Just ideas I thought I'd share with you. All and all, it's your baby. Be the creative couple that you are. Good luck, can't wait to see the dreams you have for it come true.

I feel you have to live in a space for a while until things fall into place. Usually 3-5 years. I have renovated multiple small homes and currently live in a 500sqft converted garage that I gutted and redesigned. Here are my recommendations. Buy 24” appliances, 18” dishwasher or install a dishwasher drawer, can be pricy but worth it. I put 18” dishwashers in all my properties. Replace hot water tank with tankless and put in laundry room. Keep laundry room and turn into pantry storage and add a window and perhaps buy a small upright freezer is nice to have. Convert downstairs bedroom into office space and move upstairs until you build your office shed. When replacing your roof, keep existing one and sheath it with metal, definitely cut in sky lights. Before you start any projects I would definitely work on what brings you in income first like building RV hook ups for tinies. Place looks awesome, don’t be in a rush, best of luck to you both, can’t wait to see the progress.

Keep your 3rd bedroom specially for guests that way you’ll have designated space for your son even as he grows into his adult years (now that you are more settled), plus you’ll have it for whatever space YOU may need it for as you become MORE settled, maybe a specific office/guest room, & then you’d have it already there for when you have a grandchild! Believe me those years come so much faster than you realize (so cherish all the years you’ve got now & every year that comes, there always all special memories in different ways!)!!! I know that you’ve enjoyed every moment of your travels through the years, but I’m sure it’s amazing to have a special home base also! I’ve so much loved all of your tours, you’ve given me so very many ideas! I honestly would LOVE to go tiny (I just don’t have the means or the support I would need, I DO realize that there’s people who’ve done it themselves you guys being one, but it’s literally JUST me & I’m disabled with awful credit!), it’s what I dream of daily! I binge watch every type of tiny that I can daily LOL!!! So I’m a massive fan of what you & people like you are doing!!! I watched today the video on Piecewinds in Coco FL & fell totally in love with her home and the village she’s been creating & her creating legislation for tiny homes all over! It’s so very very needed in this world!!! I also LOVE the villages created for the homeless, which is basically what I am, I live with a friend (someone I THOUGHT was a friend!) & am STUCK! I want OUT of my city & state, and quite frankly would live in a car if I had one! I’ve had to do so (before I moved in here) with my 2 dogs! I’m so very sorry for the pity myself comment, it’s not what I’d intended. I just wanted to say how very much I love what you’re doing & how happy I am for you & I hope and pray for your health, happiness, & all of your hopes and dreams!!!!

I think the house is perfect, I would live there and in that property happily. Here are a couple of tips: 1) I would not paint the living room walls in dark colors (green) because the limited amount of light you have. I would paint them white so that the light can bounce of the walls making it seem brighter. You have beautiful dark woods, let them be the focal point. 2) I would get rid of the big water heater and install an on-demand unit, they are way smaller and gives you room for some storage and saves you water.
@TinyHouseExpedition8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the suggestions!! On-demand would be so much more space-efficient. Definitely need one that’s meant for colder climates ❄️

I like A frames, might consider that the extra upstairs bedroom is actually helping your heat to be more easily regulated just by how much heat you alow upstairs. It is really practical, and allows an extra room for office or creative space. looks like an enjoyable space.😊 sounds like you two are having fun figuring it out.

Had to watch(parts) twice, just to observe and see it all! I'm so glad you A, C, got this plot of land! You are super creative and resourceful, that I am sure you would come up with a solution. My option would be to add a 2nd A-frame perpendicular to the bedroom/living wall and put the w/d in it/ mudroom entrance. Then have the office above that space. Great ad A, as usual a good sales person 😁. 🥶🖤👍🏻👍🏻🥰🥰

I LOVE the A frame! Always have been a fan of them and actually have a couple family members who have built and lived in them for many years. One about the size you have and another about 3 times the size of your current! Best advice is to build for YOU as I am sure is no surprise and what you do! Best is to think about your future in the plan. Do you plan to stay in that house forever? Live your life in the NOW but in the future can you adjust anything so their are no stairs to climb other than on occasion? Apparently there is a downstairs bedroom now that can become one again. I think your laundry/mud room is a must! Rebuild it properly. Bring it up to that window. Regardless I love it they way it is honestly. Just give your future a little thought and what will make sense now also!
@TinyHouseExpedition8 ай бұрын
It’s so cool what you can do with big A-frames! This is truly excellent advice. Longterm planning is absolutely the way to go. Really like your thinking about how the downstairs bedroom can always be used like that again, so would be worth thinking on keeping the wall up. Thank you very much! 🙏✨

Really really sorry about Winny. Thank you guys for the tour of your new home. Can't wait to see what y'all do with the laundry room but either way I'd put the water heater in the laundry room. Anyway I'm sure y'all will blow us away with whatever you decide to do. God bless you 2 always 🤗🤗

If you do a new roof I would do dormer windows which will add room inside instead of doing skylights. I would also make your current room into your office space with some sort of Murphy bed combo that has shelves that pivot on a rod so nothing falls off when you lower the bed! I would also rebuild the back section to go the entire width of the house to create a laundry room & extend the kitchen.

Oh, I just had some renovation thoughts/questions. What if you use the downstairs bedroom as an office? Even if you took down the living room wall, could you just make that bedroom smaller for an office? Open up the living room ceiling would be very cool but can you afford to lose the living space that is upstairs? Can you redo the bathroom and laundry so that you would walk through the bathroom to a laundry room? I agree with you that you should do higher countertops in the kitchen. Could you put a small dishwasher under the stairs? Or maybe a drawer dishwasher in with the cabinets. I LOVE that you will work on creating your own tiny community on your property. Wish I could do that here (St. Louis, MO), we have no tiny house communities, well the one for the homeless. Love watching your videos, thank you.

When doing a project, mine turned out best when I took the time to ponder it. I had a ugly high back porch, very plain, just a roof. It took me years to decide what to do. I added walls on the two sides, and mini roofs over them. You will find barns like it. Turned out beautiful, that is what gave me the idea. It also gave us a wind break, and privacy. It’ll give you SO much room for extra storage, bring some daylight in the hallway area, possibly give you a means to widen the shower a little bit! It’ll possibly give you the extra space to change up whatever you would like! Also you CAN hang art on your slanted walls just use a Velcro on the 4 sides of the art (there’s ones that can stick to the art & to the wall & then Velcro together).

I like A-frame camps, but never wanted to live in one full time. But your A-frame is wonderful. I think part of what makes the homestead so usable is how many outbuildings are used for things that most people shove into their houses. And I love that you hated that half-moon builders’ special door! When rebuilding my house after a flood, my contractor saw the look on my face and asked what was wrong. Me: That door. I hate the door the last contractor installed. Contractor: Not a problem! I know what you like now. I’ll be back in a bit. Later: A gorgeous half window/half panel door appeared. The half window has four glass panels that let in tons of light and are definitely not builders’ special. 😊

I love your aframe.. The best part of having this place is you are gonna put it together the way you two want it and, call it home and, that's all that matters. Gods Blessings to you both!!!

Wow! You really scored on this property with all the buildings!

We did-so lucky! When we came across this place, I priced out buying an acre nearby, adding infrastructure, building a small home & outbuildings-realized we would actually save money by buying the A-frame property. So grateful!!!

I don't know how this took me so long to see/watch, but here I am! 😅 I loved finally getting to see where you've been emailing me from for all this time 😂. What a great tour and quirky home! I didn't realize that there were so many structures on the property. What a great buy! I, of course, have a million suggestions for everything, but it might be too many projects on top of what you already have planned. I will however suggest that if you do get rid of a bedroom, maybe it could be the downstairs one and you can rework that space ( and the laundry room into a kitchen/bathroom expansion and still have room to put Christian's office there as well 🤔. I'd need some some measurements and a floorplan, but there's lots that can be done with that cute house! Also, I'm personally a fan of keeping the floor above the living room open and just painting/insulating the ceiling and staining the beams rather than closing it in with sheetrock. Just some food for thought. Thanks for sharing!❤

I think if you paint the plywood black and leave the 1x4s natural wood, the contrast would look very nice and the black plywood will disappear if you paint it matte black. Just an opinion 😊

Dig it!! Maybe stain the beams 🤔😊

Absolutely’ I love it! 3 bedrooms is a plus in my opinion! But an office space for you both down stairs would be nice also. Then you guys will have a master bedroom. Me personally I would keep the laundry room but open that wall for easier access! Whatever you guys decide will be fabulous!!! ☺️

Watched you guys from almost video 1 and have seen you grow and in a sense had an adventure together with you. Joyful for your successes and now, an A-Frame, which happens to be a dream of mine as well. Can't wait for the time when you complete your home and how you'll apply the nifty hacks that the pair of you are geniuses at. Wishing you good tidings always Alexis and Christian!

Here's a suggestion purchase a portable saw Mill and Mill your own wood or purchased whole trees and cut and dry it yourself there should be considerable savings in lumber and you can sell any excess lumber you don't need
@TinyHouseExpedition8 ай бұрын
Yes!! We would very much like to get a portable saw mill; had to cut down a couple trees last fall that are just waiting to be put to use 😁

I’ve been watching you guys, on and off, for quite a while. Reno’s are expensive but if you really want skylights; DO NOT GO CHEAP!!! Velux used to be a quality name, if they are still in business. You never want a leaking skylight!!! (Experience🙄
