There’s also the benefit of Steam games having much better sales on average compared to the Switch, especially for indies. Also, if you’re even a tiny bit tech-savvy and can follow some instructions, the Steam Deck has access to emulators for pretty much anything up to the Wii U, with some exceptions and hiccups for Switch/PS3 emulation. Right out of the box and exclusives-wise though, the Switch definitely wins.

You can use the steam input menu to make your own controls with a huge amount of interesting and cool settings and the steam input menu has NO LIMITS you can even add a virtual menu full of keyboard binds that you can add litle images for each one and colours the little icons are A LOT!!

I have zero interest in playing AAA graphically intense games on a giant handheld like the Steam deck, it's not even portable or comfortable at that size. The Switch is far superior in both game library and form factor. Yes, the Steam Deck is more powerful but that's not necessarily what makes a console better

@@trinidad510 switch is limited to switch games, and the Nintendo switch online emulation catalogue. The steam deck has access to the entire switch library, the switch online catalogue, and more. Plus the steam library. Epic game store. It's not even the power that makes it better to me, it's the selection of games. The steam deck just has a better selection of games to play. Both are great handhelds, and I'm glad you like your switch, but mines been delegated to a ring fit adventure exercise machine lol.

@@o0kaelas yes you can emulate the switch and have access to Xbox and PC games on the Steam Deck, that's not an issue at all. But playing those games on that bulky ugly handheld is honestly not something that improves those games imo. I like that the Steam Deck is a portable PC essentially, but they chose to put it in the worst form factor lol Handhelds are supposed to be light and comfortable, so my issue is that it just ruins the experience of playing a handheld, unless you dock it, but then you might as well just play on your PC for all that trouble

@@trinidad510 idk man, for me it is great to comfortably enjoy the games of my childhood on my patio, at the coffee shop or the local resturaunt. i cant deny its heftier than the switch, but its not a dealbreaker for me. i find myself enjoying it handheld while watching tv, chilling on my couch. its just like a wii u. clunky but manageable.

all the listed pain points of the deck are easily fixable in a few minutes with the settings and steam input. you can also play switch games on the deck. and you dont need to buy the official dock to play on your tv, you can directly plug it into the tv via usb-c and hdmi. if you really want a dock you can buy a usb-c hub for 30$ which will also work for your phone and your laptop

My big hands fit the steam deck more than well. On paper the steam deck is better but it’s down to personal preference really

I have somewhat big whands and the standard joycons on the Switch are an absolute nightmare for me. I used to play with hori joycons which are bigger and way more ergonomic, and that was good enough. However, it's undeniable that the Steam Deck is quite a brick (both in terms of weight and size). I like how big it is, but denying it's big is a bit delusional xD

Concerning portability, the Switch Lite ($269 depending on location) is more like the Steam Deck, no dock due to pure portability, and it's still got the entire Switch experience onhand for fun except for local multiplayer and TV play.

I think the cool part of the Steam Deck is its customizability. For someone who likes to tinker with settings and control schemes, its fantastic. However, not everyone can be bothered to go through that just to play a game. I have both and I have to say I love them both for their own reasons.

Steam deck beats switch by miles just by the fact it can do anything you want it to. Play emulators, put windows on it, use it as multimedia handheld. Theres just no comparison between them

Nintendo Switch is user friendly. However, for somebody that is willing to tinker and put some extra effort, the Steam Deck can function almost as a Nintendo Switch but with the benefits of a Steam Deck. Emulation of the Switch on Steam Deck is stupidly good somehow, and Animal Crossing is a game that runs perfectly on it. Playing games like the Sims at first might feel a little weird, but the trackpads are great, and controller configuratoin has a lot of depth and utility on steam. I'd only recommend a Switch over a Steam Deck to somebody that wants to enjoy either the online features of the switch or wants to play it without the extra steps that the Steam Deck needs (well and also the price of a cheap old switch vs the steam deck might be a selling point for some)

You can buy 3rd party docks for the switch that work great for much cheaper and also connect Bluetooth controllers for it to play docked and it works like a dream. I play mine a lot more than my switch. However, I do use my switch a lot to play library games! The local libraries, at least in the Toronto area, often have extensive video game collections so if you're willing to wait and the game you wanna play has a physical release, you may be able to borrow it from the library!

I have both a Steam DecK OLED and Switch OLED, and even though it’s not financially feasible for most people, both is a match made in heaven. The Deck can play some of the more powerful games the switch doesn’t have, as well as usually getting most indie games first. Switch has access to first party Nintendo games, and has some timed exclusives, plus ease of use. Steam Deck probably edges out a little bit, but with not every game on Steam being verified and needing some tweaking, Switch is better if I find a game like Story Of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, which would take some tweaking on the Deck that I’d rather not mess with. Switch is better in that aspect, but both are the best for playing indie games. PlayStation and Xbox don’t get anywhere near as many indie titles, and often get them much later. Plus portability is always a plus.

I have steam deck oled, Nintendo switch oled, and Lenovo legion go, out of the 3 the legion go has the most power but battery is bad, in the middle is the steam deck with better graphics then the Nintendo switch, and the Nintendo switch has the best battery and some exclusives I play

Magic of the steamdeck is you can always lower some settings to keep the game going for longer If you care about battery limit your frames the brigtness and lower some in game settings The game will probably still look better than nintendo and the battery has never died for me on a trip as long as im willing to sacrifice some quality

I think the Steam Deck & Handhelp PCs in general fail to compete as a portable gaming device, if your comparing a handhelp pc to switch you HAVE to compare them by how you'd use them. Casual play sessions more towards the Switch but the a Handhelp pc is better if you have more reasons for a portable gaming device, like regular pc use, modding, and emulation.

The switch is perfect for travel (if you are going more off the grid or camping) because its not as power hungry as the Steam Deck, on the other that power consumption can be mitigated by settings on the Steam Deck and/ or game you are playing. Either way i own both, but i probably only take my switch if i went camping

U can emulate games yes not at a higher resolution or fps tho. Games like pokemon and animal crossing run well but Goodluck playing totk and stuff like that (I played a few hours in totk and the crashes were more and more frequent as you progressed into the game so it wasn't worth playing
