From someone who has suffered with off and on wrist pain for years, all the things you’re doing are great but I would add one more. I use a lacrosse ball, which is quite hard and I lean up against the wall and roll it through the neck, back, arm, etc. there are some videos you could look at, but they are definitely the biggest contributor for me to keep knitting and doing the things I want along with the rest heat, etc.. Best of luck going forward!

As you probably may know, plenty of knitters use their craft as a form of soothing meditation or even self-therapy. My anxious ADHD brain craves stillness but I can’t be still for long without doing anything so knitting is perfect! I would go crazy if I couldn’t knit because of pain! The Belle and Sebastian sweater is gorgeous and your videos great! Love from Finland!

This pattern is so stunning! Also thanks for being so upfront and honest about your test knitting experience, both the lovely and challenging parts. I have pretty bad anxiety so I find testing a struggle most of the time and have decided I only apply for things that I absolutely adore and know I have plenty of time and capacity to do… but even then as you say, life can happen! absolutely resonate, you are not alone. 🫶 knitting is my outlet for my anxiety but the idea of letting someone down on a commitment is so anxiety inducing as well - I’m glad I could share my experience & thoughts with you. I think the designers tend to be flexible & understanding but I definitely didn’t want to let her down with things out of my control! thank you for being here and unraveling with me 💗

thank you for being here, sending love right back 💗 I took a rest from knitting for a couple weeks (which was a lot longer than I originally thought I’d need to) but a heating pad, rest, and stretches helped relieve my pain, more than the brace did tbh. also trying to be more cognizant of not tensing up when I knit has helped prevent the pain coming back and when I’m tensing I take a break 💛

@ yes I’ve learned until pain is gone + 2 days. I have Ehler’s Danlos syndrome so the chronic pain thing is something I’m a bit used to so I can be proactive. Pushed it too hard with gift knits! Hope you are feeling better these days ❤️

Hi Morgan, congratulations on a beautiful test knit! I don’t think you should ever doubt your ability, you’ve definitely moved on from the beginner knitter phase now. You’re knitting up beautiful garments & accessories. I’m a new knitter & an experienced crocheter, I do both with my arms resting on pillows at a comfortable height for support so I’m not holding my arms up in the knitting position. I think I’d end up with shoulder pain if I didn’t have the support. Also I felt your anxiety at the election outcome, I had it too (& I’m in Tasmania!). All the best for more beautiful knits in 2025! 🧶

I often still feel like a beginner because so many things are new to me but I have also taken on many things that some long time knitters have not! I think I’d fall into intermediate at this point for sure haha!

While watching, I actually design knitting patterns, so I'm working on the sample sweater for one of them! I love knitting as a way to decompress and relax my anxious mind as well, but sometimes I do wish I could just test knit other people's patterns (or knit others' patterns in general) more often. It's a lot harder now since I also design knitwear patterns for a company, but even hosting my own test knits can be fun too (when there aren't a ton of things to fix)!

thanks to my channel 🥲 it’s definitely tricky to find people in your area especially if you aren’t in a major city. if you are, maybe try searching for a facebook craft or knitting group in your city! Could you tell me approximately how much time has passed from when you've applied to when they've contacted you and the testknit started? Cause I've been eagerly checking my mails and Sari's IG page but I haven't seen or heard anything yet😅

thank you! the test I applied for had such a short timeline - I applied on Oct29 & was accepted on Oct31 and the post was updated that day to say all testers had been chosen. hope this helps! if you didn’t get accepted this time, keep applying & it can be helpful to select several sizes you’re willing to knit.🤎

Rn Im alternating two projects , my crochet muticolored sweater and my first knitted sweater with cotton & bamboo yarns.. In PH we dont really have fancy yarns cuz of weather and stuffs, we usually have are acrylics, cotton, velvets and bamboo and actually Im very grateful cuz I cant stop myself on splurging pretty yarns😂

I love your enthusiasm but I have to admit I find the whole “being honoured” to be chosen to do a test knit a little opposite. You are doing the designer a favour and Sari should be honoured by you wanting to test her product. At the very best there are no mistakes and you have got yourself a free pattern. However if there are mistakes and you end up with a sweater that fits weird or even have to rip back and start again as I’ve heard with some test knits then I don’t see the honour. You are offering your time, expertise and quite frankly free marketing and promotion for the designer. Sorry for the rant I’m just not liking the shift I am seeing in podcasters approach to test knitting. You are the amazing one ❤

I completely agree that test knitters are doing the favor of free labor & marketing etc for the designers and should be appreciated for it. it’s definitely a tricky topic & a conversation I had with my knitting friends off camera as well that test knitting is a very imbalanced norm in the knitting community. I personally feel honored because it is my first test knit and for a designer I admire so much. both can be true at the same time!🫶

Hi! I've always wondered if you get paid for test knits, or do the designer just pay for the material used?

test knitting is a volunteer based exchange - a free pattern in exchange for feedback on the pattern prior to release & usually also a bit of free advertisement as many test knitters like myself would share the process of test knitting and help hype the pattern release. the designer does not compensate test knitters for time or yarn, but you keep your finished object. sample knitting may but what you are thinking of and is different, the designer would provide yarn, compensate labor, and receives the finished knit. many people feel like test knitting is unpaid labor and do not partake in it. very much an individual choice. I felt like it was an honor to test for Sari but do not foresee myself test knitting super often!
