At 77 I live on 10 acres like you but west coast rain forest, what is missing is the family etc., I have two border collies.Your videos bring joy into my life, you all have created something very special with intent. I discovered you a little over a month ago and am in the process of watching your past adventures. Your children have been given a priceless education and it shows. It seems as though you bring attention and beauty to everything you touch, each one of you. It is good to know that people like you do exist in this world, it gives me hope. btw: through various clues in your videos I found your hide a way cabin on Google Earth, you are most definitely out in the middle of nowhere and I don't think you would have to worry about unexpected guests arriving, the land of a thousand lakes. I just want to say thank you for being who you are and I send blessing from Gibsons, BC

Like another commenter, I helped my grandmother run clothes through a wringer (located in the basement-cellar) and then out to hang dry. At the time I didn’t think that someday it would be a fond memory! Hey, EFRT family … have you all read John Steinbeck’s “Travels with Charley” ? It is not typical Steinbeck, but a non-fiction account of his trip in a 1965 custom truck camper. Charley is his standard poodle who goes along and “christens” bushes across the U.S. It is maybe the first RV story! He washed clothes in a bucket … put them in in the morning and let the day’s travel do the agitating 😊. Lastly but NOT least … another lovely video that I have added to a list of things to watch when daily life gets ugly. Thank you all!

I helped with the wringer washer chores back in the 1970s. We always heated the wash water. Several loads were run one after the other and additional water might be heated and added in. Having it in the sauna where the water could be heated on a small wood stove sounds ideal.

😊 I helped my grandmother … mid to late 60’s. And it was in the basement (cellar) so we had to lug the wet wash upstairs and out to hang dry. I must confess that I do love my automatic washer and dryer! But the wringer setup beats washing clothes with rocks in the lake 😂. Another lovely video that is peaceful, loving, instructive (thank you for the power setup info) and overall restorative of spirit and soul.

Thank you for being and continuing in all you (i.e. the 6- of you - inclusive of Lando) do daily as great examples of a father and mother 'raising up' 3- young adults in this world of today. I have been blessed weekly by the stories of your travels, the victories and challenges that come as we all live our lives as each day unfolds for 5 +_ years now. It is equally gratifying to observe Peter, Caroline and Dan develop into their respected places in their broad extended family structure. At this point, I must deviate and be permitted a cautionary tail. I must emphasize in no way is it to be misconstrued, in any way, form or fashion, to be anything more than my expression of the concern of safety of others. I was pleased and, at the same time, significantly concerned at seeing and hearing you relate that the 'vertical axis, oscillating, agitator' with top mounted, dual roller clothes wringer attachment was still in use. Providing good and faithful after all these years. I was especially en-heartened when i heard your words of ". . . we will replace this with something more modern (Eco-friendly, smaller, etc). My cautionary story: One of the first 'major' items I remember my parents acquiring after 'the War - - WWII' was such a washing machine. To my recall, the manufacturer / brand name was Kenmore. A Sears and Roebuck item. My mom was washing the clothes on this particular day and for what ever reason, possibly me - I was either attempting to help OR she trying to keep me out of what ever mischief I was about to be in, allowed her fingers to be entangled with the clothes which were being inserted into the ringer rollers. In a matter of a second or two (at most) her hand was drawn up into the rollers. As I observed on your machine, Mom's ringer attachment was fitted with an emergency 'crash bar', which she had presence of mind to activate. This action immediately stopped the advancement of the clothing and entangled hand with no injury being inflicted on Mon. ( I have no specific recall, however, I am sure she took a break to settle down before going back to finish the chore.) Yes, i did see the two men there keeping you safe and helping. However, there is a reason 'these things' have not been manufactured in 70 ?? years (a guess). And, how long in the past did this technology originate? (another guess on my part - - WW I - 1920's) My musing - - don't throw it away; retire it; place it on display; it appears in too good cosmetic and mechanical shape to trash. I apologize for the long windiness. I came close to sharing this story when your video of returning to the island earlier in this year had a clip of first using the washer.

I remember as a child growing up on the farm in Southern Ohio using the old style washing machine. A little slower process but it still did a good job. We filled up the machine by carrying buckets of water from our spring located across the gravel road from our house. Gradually things got better when we installed a pump in the house which allowed us to pump water into the house. I spent a lot of time priming the pump. We were definitely doing something wrong that we had to prime it a lot. The good old days where you were always busy, with less stress. Life was just way more relaxing emotionally back then. Miss those times!!!

Very festive. Some statistics, and a word of advice/ caution. The big killer of birds, not sure if it's 1 or 2, domestic cats could be 1. Windows are at the top for bird deaths. I'll explain. The reflection of the outdoors confuses birds from negotiating where to fly. Especially when they get startled by whatever, and hawks are excellent in finding where birds feed. When frightened they will smash into a window, understanding the reflection on the glass is the out doors. I have learned the hard way picking up dead birds, and bringing some to rescue clinics. It's the cause of my own ignorance as I was already aware that high rise office towers/ condo windows are devastating to birds. Though I have huge windows in my home I thought it wouldn't be an issue, but it was. So I moved all my bird feeders a distance from my windows, that includes hummingbirds, and all is well. It is nice to see birds feeding by the window, but it could be their death. Even though we think we are helping them. But they can live without us, so I would think it's for our entertainment. As an ex offroad enthusiast/ camper/hiker. I traded my wheels in for sailboat adventures. My family and I sailed for 40 years, and lived that dream. Your battery set up is what is used on Sailing vessels, of course depending on the load. That ringer washer brings back terrifying memories as a kid. I just about got my whole arm pulled into the wringer, as it caught my sleeve. im thankful to the manufacturer that the release mechanism was functional. Though I have lived all over Canada, now in the Ottawa region. We are having unseasonably warm weather. But that is what global warming will be doing. Nice video 🇨🇦

Really beautiful decorations and I bet the cabin smells wonderful with all the different pines and dried fruit. I have to say that was seriously the most beautiful hot cocoa I've ever seen. I'm going to try to copy that here at home. You have such a beautiful and well prepared cabin. What a wonderful adventure in itself. I often daydream about being able to be in this very situation. To be able to be snowed in, drink coffee and watch it snow. The only thing I would change in your videos is the music. It's a bit depressing and doesn't seem to fit how lovely your videos are. I hope you don't mind me saying this. I'm a new viewer and looking forward to more of your videos.

I am a regular viewer. I agree with the observation; the music is somber. The suggestion would be helpful for us, viewers.

I love EVERYTHING you did to collect nature to make it cozy. Boughs, strings of oranges, books, old movies, yummy food, warm sweaters, family… Questions… what temperature is the cabin? What do you do about composting/garage? Please share your hot coco recipe?

We keep it about 75 degrees inside. Cozy. We compost all our food scraps and take garbage to the dump every couple of weeks.

Beautiful video, as always… and I enjoyed the music. It felt fitting for the short and dark days of winter (especially for those of us who live in northern climates). Welcome back, Caroline… you were dearly missed. Happy Holidays!!!
