A friend that was adopted felt the same way, and a few years ago his birth mom got in touch with him, and he found out that she had been a hippie and that she got pregnant and the father of the baby abandoned her and decided not to abort but to give up her son for adoption. My friend was born on July 15 1969 in a clinic outside of San Francisco, and I feel that the nostalgia he feels for that era and these kind of songs are something that was passed on from mother to child even when he grew up in Orange County, California.

I’m an old guy so I was around during that time. The mindset was so different. If you had extra of something, you shared. We shared weed, we crashed at people’s houses we’d never met. If we had an extra seat in the car and you needed a ride you were in. Most of all, we shared the music and the feelings that came with it. It’s really hard to explain but as I watch my life winding down I think about those times quite a bit. One last thing, this is a frame of mind and how you think about the other humans you’re sharing the planet with. Be kind.

I'm English and was born in 1949 so spent all of my teenage years in the 60's. This was a massive hit in the U.K. and I promised myself, at 18 that one day I would go to San Francisco. That happened when I was 43. Had a month long holiday on the west coast of America, took in all the sights. Los Angeles, Carmel, Monterey and up highway 1 to San Francisco. Drove over the Golden Gate bridge with the radio blaring and guess what came on the radio, yes this song. Top down, singing my head off, got some funny looks but also got some people joining in. It was everything I'd hoped it would be.

For me, our long social and cultural decline started with the assassination of JFK, followed by the needless escalation of the war in Vietnam, the Summer of Love, MLK, RFK, the Chicago DNC protests, Nixon extending the war into Cambodia, Kent State, the 1973 oil crisis, Watergate, etc. No peace, no love, no harmony, just CHAOS!!!!! My wife just explained about that movie. I never saw it, but I can say that the late 60s in SF and the SF Bay Area were interesting times, full of young people in love, great music, drugs (mostly weed and psychedelics), as well as violent antiwar demonstrations, mostly on college campuses. Not everyone was a hippie, by the way, and after the summer was over most of those kids went back to their midwestern homes, with many interesting and enriching life experiences. The ones who remained in SF had a rough time of it: living on the streets, doing hard drugs, getting VD, etc. Not a pretty scene.

Buon 2023 ed un augurio di una serena e lunga vita 😅❤

In 1966 I was just out of the service back from Vietnam .. tried college several times only lasted about 3 weeks each time.. I knew I had to get away from my buddies in New Hampshire and go off to college far away.. I went to a small college in Taft Ca then on to San Francisco State 1969-70.. Seeing and hearing Scott McKenzie's song... brings back those wonderful days... Searching the crowds looking for my face.. at 78 I wonder how many of those young faces are around today.. This is my time capsule it will never change.. for the years have aged my body my mind is as young as it was then.. Peace/love..

Really nice memories. Haight-Ashbury was magical. It felt as if life was filled with endless possibilities. . I loved the paisley shirts

I was not around during the time of it's release. I'm about to reach my early mid 30's. I do find this a very beautiful song with a sound of nostalgia, and humanity in being social, getting along with one another and praising for peace, a type of song that does not exist today😢 I'm sad that I did not exist during that when people more humans and beautifully kind to one another, despite the war at time.

My sister moved in 1980 from the Netherlands to San Francisco Bay so I've been there several times for a holiday. A wonderful city with his famous attractions such as Haight-Ashbury. When I was in that district in 1996 the Scott McKenzie-classic overwhelmed my hippie-mind.

I'm from that era and I don't think any period of time has ever been captured so well as this song; it's a beautiful, beautiful song.
