Damn...such as shame MLW no longer makes these beautiful, powerful, clunky beasts. I grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania not far from GE and man listening to them dash 7-8-9 and ac4400cw units roll up the throttle brought pride and contentment to my soul.

Girard, PA here. But I played golf in high school at the Lawrence Park course next to the GE test track, and that made it hard to focus on golf!

Fairbanks-Morris I believe bought the patents for Alco/MLW after Bombardier nosedived the company and still produces non-emission equipped 251's for marine applications.

As mechanician , in the 80 s , I repaired Alcos , RS18 , RSD15 , C630 , C636 and M636 . I loved them so much ! Engines overhaul , preventive maintenance and minor repairs . What I like te most ? Engines load test . The sound of the engine at full throttle and full load will stay in my memories !

@@micheltherriault7063 You're thinking of CP 4744, the M-640. CP 4563 in the video is a 16-cylinder 3000 hp unit.
