I believe this is where AMD's dominance in consoles over the past decade is really starting to show now. Having a software company like Microsoft optimizing Windows for the Xbox was bound to begin to yield major benefits for AMD. Now that Valve is selling AMD hardware and optimizing linux much like Sony has done for the last 15 years or more is really starting to come together. A future without Windows is finally a possibility for a PC gamer. Nvidia is years behind in LInux driver support. Huang is scared.

Ill go a step further, if COD ran on Steam OS I would have left Windows behind a couple of months ago.... My Steamdeck is incredible. My PC could be an even more incredible Steamdeck with support for a couple of more games. MS really wants to buy this game and I think this is a big reason why. Again, that software!!! It's all about the software in the end...

@jamegumb7298 they still are to some degree, but i will admit the 4060 has been getting alot of attention lately over the past 3 months. the 6700 XT was the sweet spot for AMD, but believe it or not, despite the excellent price to performance, the 6600 XT got more attention at the time. then once the 6650 XT came in, people who hadn't had a chance to upgrade, that's where alot of those people went. so it's odd but not too surprising, i went from a 1050ti to the 6700 XT. so you can imagine how much of an increase i got coming from that, but i grabbed it back in February 2023 and i couldn't be more satisfied with the performance. i could've saved some money if i went for the 6600 xt, but i actually was looking at the Nvidia 3060 originally, but the price for the 6700 XT was hard to ignore.

Yeah I picked one up for £130 in November, along with a B550 ITX board. Choosing the 7600X would've increased my total platform cost by at least another £300 (£400 if I wanted to stay on ITX). By the time the 5600 starts to actually hold me back, I'll probably be able to spend that £300 on a Zen 6 11600 & a midrange motherboard with PCI-E 5.0, USB 4, maybe even hardware-accelerated real-time decompression like the consoles have. DDR5 will actually be mature by then too & today's high speed will be tomorrow's mid. Zero reason a gamer needs better now unless they're rocking an RTX 4090.

@@thelmaviaduct competitive gamers do. They want a cpu bottleneck, that means they are getting the least input lag. But they run with faster cpus as well, not these in the video. However the video shows something interesting: nVidia is bad with slower cpus. Also it does not matter if nobody sane is doing it. We want to see the performance of the CPU so the test should be run on the faster GPU. If you are on this CPU and upgrade to the next gen of GPUs then the performance you see here is what you will get when using a lower tier next gen GPU. So the benchmark here shows how the CPU WILL BE in the future, not how it is in a realistic scenario right NOW. Why? Because gamers upgrade their GPU more often than the CPU (if they are sane).

Hurray for budget part reviews! There's a whole lot of performance in those small buggers, I have to say. Also, it's interesting to see where the bottleneck appears. I think, perhaps, they went a bit extreme here, so that we only get to know it's somewhere between the RX 6650 XT and the 6950XT, which is a huge span, and thus of limited help. Looking forwards to the 13400 and 13500 review and how they compare to the 12400 value champ! Do the E-cores matter? We'll see.

Today's incredible video is a bit of a landmark video for me. This video singlehandedly tosses out some preconceived conceptions that I was wrong about. This video introduces the driver overhead dynamic and it's dependency on CPU for better GPU performance. I was already correctly aware that the 4090 would be CPU bottlenecked on even the fastest CPU at 1080p and 1440p. What I didn't expect was for the much cheaper (and let's be honest, architecturally weaker) 6950 XT to come in SMASHING the $1600 - $2000 RTX 4090!! I was honestly expecting the results to be very similar, and perhaps the 4090 pulling just a couple frames ahead due to certain portions of a benchmark run being less CPU constrained as other portions. like how this video shows that CPUs like the 5600 have a decent upgrade path just by replacing the GPU, where the Core i3 doesn't as much. Iwish there were more GPU/CPU scaling videos out there. I am kind of wondering now how much headroom I actually have for my 5950x if I ever wanted to upgrade my Radeon RX 6800. (not an XT card)...

Rx 5900x with RX 6800. Most of the thine I'm CPU bottlenecked at 1440p (tho frequently maxing the 144hz capability) I play many old games that are often also bad at multi threading. Still there might not be much overhead, see how far the FPS can go at low settings, the max would be below that (as some settings do affect the CPU a bit)
@davidmacfarlane4761
@davidmacfarlane4761 Жыл бұрын
@@ziokalco Thanks for sharing your experience, as we have similar components. my rx 6800 does well,and I often get over 100 fps, but I am not usually maxing 165 Hz unless I lower settings and/or resolution some at least on the games I play. Still pretty happy with it, and I won't be upgrading very soon or anything since for single player titles I won't mind living with lowered settings or res as long as the framerate is above 35 or so. I am just wondering if whe mid range GPUs in future generations launch with performance similar to a 4090 or 7900 XTX, I wonder if the 5950x can really utilize most of the card. My radeon-profile graph shows GPU utilization usually in the upper 90's, but that is just on the few games I have looked at. Supposing you're bottleneck observations are representative of my use cases than perhaps it's better to just ride this system the way it currently is out into the sunset.

This takes me back to the late 90's/early 00's. I used to get PC Gamer magazine and they had awesome CPU graphs comparing them low/mid/high tier GPU's. Gave you an great idea of what CPU you need for your gaming goals/budget. Felt much more "budget" consumer focused, like reviewing normal cars rather than Ferrari's and Crevette's. Think they even included low/medium/high quality settings as it effected the CPU performance too, because if you're going to run a game on a budget you might be more interested in how it handles at medium settings. Back to the CAR ALANOGY lol.. you just want to go to the local track, not Laguna Seca IMO not everyone need's or more importantly has the money for $300-400 CPU when a $100-200 will do 95% of the job when pairing with a $200-300 GPU on a 75Hz monitor. The reviews of just 4070ti/4080/4090 and 7900xt/xtx are great and all, but this makes kids think they need to spend well over 1k just to get into PC gaming when a $100 CPU and $200 GPU can play all the new games on a 1080p/60Hz monitor with medium settings perfectly smoothly. Side note; Nice to see you can build a GOOD new system again for around $500

I don't know why he used the more expensive non f chips to compare to the 5600 when it doesn't have that igpu that makes these more expensive. Kinda disingenuous when the test is specifically for dedicated GPU builds. Maybe just to bring prices equal but that completely negates any fps/$ comparison. Comparison to 13400 and 13500 will be predictable. They'll be more expensive due to e cores and again having an igpu that Zen3 doesn't, but they'll curb stomp the 5600 in production where those e cores get fired up.

@@zodwraith5745 Wow, you need to stop reading too much into these content pieces. There was nothing disingenuous about this test or using the non-F Intel parts. Why do you think there was? The same could be said for the 13100 against the 5600, pretty identical performance at 1080p but the 13100f is 20% cheaper. The 5600 does stretch its legs a bit more if you have a higher end GPU, not that many would pair a 13100 with a 6950xt. actually its the other way around - with high end GPU and low end CPU you get more CPU bottleneck, espetially in lower resolution and with uncapped FPS. Theoretically at 1080p with uncapped FPS a way worse GPU can perform just as well as a high end one if both of them have the same CPU. The difference starts to appear at at higher resolutions where the GPU gets utilized more. This is basically why you dont buy a 4090TI when you only want to play at 1080p

Great video. It's not trivial to deduce which CPU and GPU will be a good match. And now with raytracing heavy games things get even harder as evidenced by 4090 showing clear under-utilization (assumed to be a CPU bottleneck) already in 1440p with maxed out settings on the most powerful CPUs currently available. So having a measly 5700X, I do wonder if I would be able to take full advantage even of RX 7900 XT, for example. Impossible to test all the combinations and answer all the question, but this nicely puts things in perspective. Great job. More please 🙂

@@Iridiumcosmos I was referencing a question asked in the recent q&A, where the guy asked for a selection of mid range cards rather than one then a 4090 etc. When doing mid \ budget cpu testing. It's also location dependant. Some suggestions above for the 6750xt, over here it's usually the same price as the 6800 (when in stock).
