Weird for us to talk about using a body as fertilizer (then again, burying someone is in a way also just adding fertilizer to the soil), but the Belt needs all the resources they can get. In a way, using a body for fertilizer is some way for a Belter to help their society even in death.

The "OPA" and Mormons' relationship seems to just be business, based on the conversation we saw. The Belter workers are being paid to construct a spacecraft for the Mormons. "Memory Crypt" is slightly lost in translation, perhaps, though you figured it out. More like computer memory / data storage than thoughts and recollections from a human brain. Hidden in his body to keep it more secure and covert. "Data broker" sounds like he is maybe stealing / couriering / selling secrets on some kind of black market.

Data sent through a network can be intercepted where data physically transferred between individuals will be the most secure method. The purpose of a data broker is basically to be like a shipping container for data. The person sending the data copies it into the data crypt in the guy's leg and then the broker travels to where the receiver is and the the person receiving the data will copy it out and ensure the data broker has deleted the copy he carried.

You noticed the symbol Amos wears...good catch! Yes, that is a Japanese Oni demon mask. The Japanese folklore is that if you wear the face of the demon, it will ward the demon away from you. There is no fluff in this show...that will come back. That whole little scene is significant. My unpopular opinion is that the stealth ships would have gone after the Donnager anyway because the Donnager had been to Phobe. We hated Lopez, and then we were sorry to see him go. This series frequently gives such good drama to one-off characters. Because of that, you never really know if you're seeing a new permanent character or a one-off who just got a juicy bit of drama. Lopez' interrogation of Holden may have shown Lopez that Holden was essentially a trustworthy man. Mormon religious doctrine includes a belief in human-habitable planets. Their doctrine also includes the concept of disaster preparedness and being ready to leave untenable places for safer places. So, it's very conceivable that if any group was willing to sink resources into an interplanetary mission, it would be Mormons. It is important that Fred Johnson asserted that the OPA was just about human rights, while Martians and Earthers have branded the OPA as all terrorists.

That huge spaceship being constructed at Tycho Station was commissioned by the Mormon church. This is a neat and surprising bit of writing and based upon a bit of current reality. The Mormon church has a lot of wealth right now. It would also, perhaps more than just about anybody, chafe under any governmental restrictions regarding the number of children a Mormon couple could have. So, it is not much of a leap to accept the idea that Mormons would spend some of their money on a "generational ship" large enough to sustain famring operations for the five or six generations it would take to reach the nearest star and its new solar system to discover a new planet where they could live and reproduce as they please. The Mormon religion is a bit unusual in that its core doctrines include a lot of references to space and other planets, making it even more likely that Mormons could be leaders in the colonization of other solar systems even if voyages there would take hundreds of years travelling at a small fraction of the speed of light..

The show turns it up to 11...for the FIRST time. The Slingshot Club betting on Bizi was about the level of concern for Miller that a Poker game has in the Bible Belt...not much. Belters live on the frontier, and they are a rough lot, and take their entertainment where they can. Plus Miller is, to put it kindly, unenthusiastic and compromised. The most he would have done is shake them down for a "fine". "There's no Law on Ceres, just cops." Star Helix maintains Order. They enforce the Law on an as needed basis.

Great reaction. I'm liking your post episode analysis. The Mormons have no affiliation with the OPA. It just happens that the ship they want built is being built for them by Fred Johnson who is part of the OPA. As for the cop being skewered. There's a KZbin channel called Ty and that Guy where one of the authors and Wes Chatham (Amos) discuss the episodes. In this one Ty Franck said this was taken from a real life accident of some kind where someone was skewered by a metal post of some kind and survived. A good way to learn about the episodes if you don't mind wadding through all of the talk.

The cop not dying from the harpoon is actually based on a real life event. It is possible, however slim, to survive impalement. Two things worked in his favor, the rod being in place actually reduces bleeding out. As well as the physical conditions on Ceres. His survival helped ease our sense of loss from losing Shed. Really good writing. You did an awesome job reading into the nature and back story of Amos. Very perceptive. If you go back to episode 2, where Amos and Holden are out fixing the antennae array, remember Amos voices out loud that he couldn't see any reason not to end Holden by knocking him off the ship, other than Naomi wouldn't like it. Then after making such an obvious threat to Holden's life, Amos then asks Holden to pass him a spanner. When Holden does Amos say's "Thank you." That one minute exchange says so much about the character of Amos. And as the show moves along you will learn so much more. He is a fascinating character you will grow to love to pieces. Another KZbin reactor beautifully nicknamed him 'Murder Snuggles."

So we are working under the assumption that both things cannot be simultaneously true? Ever hear the phrase, "like minds...". And since murder and snuggles are pretty innocuous words, it's unlikely the phrase was invented on set. And existed in the ether long before being tagged onto Wes. Just saying... I assumed Nicky pulled the reference from a movie. Anyway, she made me laugh saying it. Which earns big points in my book.

"Bizi Betiko" means "Live Forever" in Basque, for a character who dies literally as we meet him! Morgue technicians are famously unbothered by death and bodies and often have ghoulish senses of humour, though as we saw from Bizi's death, life is cheap in the Belt. "Scuttling" a ship is a term from the age of sail, meaning to sink it before the enemy can take it. The Mormons believe that The Earth is just one of many inhabited worlds, and there are many governing heavenly bodies, including the planet or star Kolob, which is said to be nearest the throne of God, so it makes sense they'd want to build a ship to go and find God. They presumably wanted the Belters to build their ship as the Belters are used to getting by with very little, so they make very efficient ships.

@@andiecph > "Scuttling" a ship is a term from the age of sail scuttling charges continue to be a thing in the modern era. On the Donnager, the to scuttle the ship meant overloading the reactor so that it would explode, leaving no trace. scuttling charges are explosives which are rigged with a timer, with enough time to allow the crew to abandon ship. They are placed near the hull so that the ship will take on water and sink quickly. There are two reasons to do this. First, to deny the enemy the use of your ship. Second, to make sure the enemy won't be able to capture and look at your secret materials, such as battle plans, intelligence materials, and cryptographic communications equipment.

How the one ship turned into six is basically: at first they were 6 ships traveling close together or possibly even in one line, so there was only one big drive plume visible. On a side note, we - and the Martians - could see their drive plume because they were braking towards us: the flip-and-burn manoeuvre.

When that mysterious soldier gets his lower arm shot off, we are shown his suit automatically sealing the break in the suit. With gun battles being fought with bullets, you wouldn't want your soldiers to die from cold, lack of air pressure, and lack of oxygen just because a bullet pucntured their space suit. Self-sealing suits thusly were invented. Later in the episode, Amos gets shot in his lower leg, but we know his space tuit sealed itself automatically beause we had already seen it happen twice before, once with the invading soldier, and way back in epidsode one when that chunk of ice severed the arm of that guy gathering ice on the Canterbury, although you have to assume self-sealing spacesuits as to the latter incident because we aren't shown it explicitly.
@MattNolanCustom
@MattNolanCustom 7 ай бұрын
I think you're misinterpreting things here. The self-sealing spacesuit is to show how advanced the unknown force is. Both Holden and the Martian soldiers are surprised to see it. Our little gang have their suits on when running across the gantry, but I think this is as a precaution, I don't think the hangar bay is depressurised. There are times when you can see puffs of smoke moving as if there is atmosphere. So, I don't think Amos' suit auto-seals. I don't think the arm losing incident with the ice chunk in Ep1 was a self-sealing suit either. At least not in the fantastic way we see with the blue-visored guy's suit.
