I've carved marble before..all by hand..how they still breathe is beyond me..I look at the machines bouncing around..still amazing work..can you imagine the real craftsmanship of the Greeks Roman's and Italians in the 12-15 century

I think there's been a couple thousand years of skilled craftspeople and pre industrialisation methods in a million years one could still build some practical thing with marble or masonry generally will modern steel and cement production facilities be available in a million years? it's hard work and these chaps are pretty skilled

Sono di Carrara-Toscana-Italia.Ho quasi 82 anni e per 65 anni ho lavorato il marmo,non facevo vasi ma pavimenti e rivestimenti.Il marmo che si vede nel piazzale è sicuramente della mia zona,Carrara,Massa,Pietrasanta. Fino a 30-40 anni fa si lavorava così senza cuffie,senza occhiali , senza guanti,senza mascherine e scarpe senza puntale rinforzato.Dicono che la polvere fa venire la Silicosi,sicuramente la polvere di marmo,carbonato di calcio,non crea tanti problemi.I cavatori erano un pò più a rischio perchè per tagliare i blocchi in cava usavano un filo elicoidale versandoci sopra acqua e sabbia,secondo gli esperti era la polvere di sabbia che creava qualche problema.Comunque vedo che sono in gamba nel manovrare i marmi e per tornire hanno ottime macchine.Un consiglio progettate una vacanza a Carrara,abbiamo anche un bel mare ,potrete visitare le cave i laboratori,l'Accademia e sopratutto gli scultori.

Like how he used the knife to centre the top piece. To find the centre of any circle, draw a straight line from one side of the circle (circumference) to another (this line is called a chord). Draw a perpendicular to this chord at its midpoint. Repeat with any other chord. The two perpendicular bisectors will intersect at the centre of the circle. 👌

It is ironic for all of these pampered folks to come here and expect anything but what was expected as for safety equipment. To the men at work. I loved watching you take a rock and turn it into a masterpiece that could last forever. Watching the man in the beginning making a rough carving on the marble was inspiring. Thanks for reminding me of what men could do.

My years of grinding concrete and stone, that dust is not good for the lungs over time. But who am I. We destroy our bodes one way or another, smoking drugs alcohol eating etc. Thats some hard work, good job. I found it very calming just chipping on stone all day. I would love to see more of this to make a huge come back.
