Just did this operation to my LT1000 and I am thrilled. The mower now shifts easily without forcing the shifter. Thanks for the video.

Excellent info - my lawn tractor would shift but not engage a gear. So I took it off but there was no drain plug. I drilled and tapped one in the location you show and grey sludge poured out. I went straight to the Marvel Mystery Oil to flush it (skipped the gasoline) then refilled with gear oil and now it works like new! Thanks for sharing this!

Exactly the same problem i am having with a husquvarna LT125 6 speed spicer transmission. Shifter is stuck between neutral and reverse, i got it to move but its still sticky. Guess i will have to try your your fix. They fill these transaxles with grease and when it dries out your screwed.

The shaft will freeze up and you have to put oil on it and tap it back and forth, happens all the time when they been setting very long 😢 It’s a easy fix if you can time to mess with it 😊😊😊

That transaxle only requires 16 ounces of gear oil. Those 3 quarts represent 6 times the required amount.

Help. My Craftsman riding mower will not freewheel. I cannot push it. I pull out the transmission/trans-axle lever on the back of the mower to disengage it, but I still cannot push it. The wheels will only turn in opposite directions. What is wrong? Thank you.

how is it a hydrostatic if it clicks into gear
@infinigrove8 жыл бұрын
It's not hydrostatic, it is a gear drive. Yes, I made a mistake while talking during the video. However, the title of this video is correct and there is an annotation in the video that corrects me.

I Just did this to my older LT1000 the thing is a cranky bitch, even though I rescued her from the scrap yard she has been well maintained (by me) stored out of the weather, she is always a pain, mow for an hour and work on it for 2 hours! My tranny locked up in the short 2 months of non mowing weather we have here, which I easily unlocked, the last time I pulled one of these rear ends apart it was filled with axle grease not fluid but mine unlocked... 2 of the safety switches went bad so I removed all of them bypassed the wiring so it only has charging current, push button to starter solenoid and a kill switch, got her running and moving then went to eat lunch the damn carb solenoid went bad hydrolocked the piston. Pulled the plug cleared the cylinder removed solenoid, tested it made sure I was still getting voltage and then just cut that plunger off and installed a plastic fuel shut off dealeo in line (if u cut the plunger or disconnect solenoid gravity pushes fuel into the cylinder). Got it mowing again, then the deck engagement cable failed, fixed that with a choke cable, mowed a bit more then deck belt went luckily I save all these parts I find..... I spent a day making a linkage to engage the deck then forgot that the brake linkage was in the way. I should of spent the time rebuilding the 1965 Allis chalmers I have she needs a new engine...LT is running and mowing now but I keep asking myself whats next???
@infinigrove5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the needle and seat in your carburetor need replacing. That's what is allowing fuel to leak into the cylinder.

I have exactly the same issue but my drive jammed up so yet to pull it apart and follow this procedure. hoping it is this easy lol,, just went down and removed battery and went to check lever and its all working like new and I have not touched it,, it was jammed up and had to drag it back to the shed 1 week ago but now works fine. maybe new oil and some attention is needed. leading up to this it was getting stuck in gear sometimes and all I would do is rock it a bit and it would free up and change gears. I'm thinking oil is the issue or I hope it is

Hello gentlemen, I have a problem with one of these things. The gearbox ball bearings ( the bearings of the vertical shaft moved by the belted wheel) are finished and I need new ones. I am from Europe and it's impossible to find them here because they are US specs. Does anyone knows where I can order them in the US and the product code/ number. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Tepes Voda check out ereplacementparts.com Type in you model number you will find this on the engine or valve cover. Now if what you need is a part for the mower ( deck, chassis, levers, lights etc)use the mower model number.

Is there a way to drain and fill the transmission with removing the transmission. I have a Craftsman LT1000 12 years old which overwise runs and performs perfect but moving the shifter between gears has become stiff and wandering is an oil change to transmission might help? Thx in advance, Don
@infinigrove8 жыл бұрын
It depends on which transmission it is. Some do have a drain plug on the bottom. But most of the newer Craftsman only have a fill hole and you fill have to remove it to drain and fill. However, it might possible to use a pump to suck out the oil from the top fill hole. Also, I think there is a youtube video out there where someone drills and taps an oil drain plug in the bottom, but I would not recommend that.
@CorbinAce8 жыл бұрын
Don't know if you fixed your' shifting yet. I had that problem. tore down the whole back of the mower to remove the transaxle. I was thinking the transmission was bad like you do. It may not be. I found the shift lever was packed solid with sand and grass between the seat and the transmission. I cleaned out the grass and it shifts great. It is a lot of work to disassemble the back but it is almost impossible to clean out with tearing it down. maybe if you tip the mower on it's side like many in here do you can get at it.

Only those who know it works marvels! had a single cylinder go cart from like 1973. The rings were rusted to the inside of the cylinder 35+ years with no oil will do that. We took the spark plug out, poured some of that right on the piston and went at the flywheel with a crowbar or something or an impact hammer(possibly). once we got the piston moveing freely which took no time at all I WAS NOW A BELIEVER.
