Then 9/11 happened, which I remember, and I never felt that sense of peace again. Throughout my life, the above quote has become more and more relevant, yet the public who is made up largely by clueless drones who have never sacrificed anything for their community or country, presume to judge men and women of action and demand their heads on a spit. If they could do it better, they should pitch in, but they're cowards who only talk, so that won't happen and their opinions should not carry the weight that they regrettably do.

I noticed someone mentioned ROE earlier in this thread. You have to keep in mind this didn't happen in an active warzone where a city had been evacuated. The ROE (slightly) changes based on where you are (obviously deadly force always allows deadly force). However, deadly force only authorizes it on those who use it (and some reasonable exceptions like using a person as a human shield). It doesn't authorize it on everybody in sight. So if you have snipers at 400m using deadly force, and a "rowdy" crowd of demonstrators on sov foreign soil in a different country not in a war zone, you can't just open up the crowd because the snipers are using deadly force.

Always wanted to buy us lunch, always wanted to know what our weekend plans were. He cared about us. ROE means you can respond with force once force is applied to you. People in the crowd were firing so he can go straight to deadly force.
@ryancamara5689 Жыл бұрын
Yeah it even goes further with that, just cause I got curious I looked up some ROE handbook, and to skip a bunch of legalese, basically the ROE in this case is regarding self defence. According to what I read on it, tho I’m no expert so don’t quote me, ROE states that because the civilians were trying to impede or harrass Us forces, and aiding the enemy by using Molotovs and trying to break down the door. They are showing hostile acts against US forces and can be targeted under a “decisive” level of force. Internationally speaking since the US ROE considered the civilians to take part in the attack by harassing troops, they technically were taking part in direct hostilities, and were not protected against attacks.
@wesjanson6979 Жыл бұрын
@@ryancamara5689 aside from it's just a movie and they're trying to be dramatic, the big problem is that our enemies have always done this since Vietnam, tried to make America look like murdering monsters, so they picked up all the weapons before the media got there and trotted people out to shed crocodile tears and it terrified the politicians. The politicians hid the camera evidence that showed the civilians were in fact directly participating in the violence against the Marines because they wanted to be seen "doing something" so they could quickly prosecute Sam Jackson's character in a kangaroo court and then sweep the whole incident under the rug afterward.

@@4TheRecord how goes the Nazi adventures in Ukraine? Living out your Metro fantasy eh?
@ryancamara5689 Жыл бұрын
@@4TheRecord actually under US ROE and international law he was justified in this case. US rules of engagement would consider the attack on the embassy a hostile attack, when Us forces are attacked there are hostile acts and hostile intent, for lack of a better word acts are somewhat indirect build ups, intent is basically they’re gonna do it. The civilians in front of the embassy were trying to storm the building when the marines arrived, in fact they arrived while under fire already, the civilians were using a battering ram and Molotovs against the door as well as shielding and huddling around soldiers as they fired at the building. These are considered hostile acts that hamper the US forces and aid the enemy, under the ROE the American troop can respond with “Decisive force” to defend themselves and ensure their safety. Considering multiple soldiers were dead by then, the embassy was under siege for hours by the time they arrived, and they had wounded, those civilians could be considered part of a hostile attack due to hostile actions that supported the enemy. Which means they could technically justify the shoot as firing into a crowd of hostile s, because as far as they knew those civilians were helping insurgents kill their soldiers, and they’re not entirely wrong. Internationally civilians and unarmed persons are protected by the laws of war, however there’s a catch. If you are a civilian and you take any part in a hostile attack, you are no longer protected. Even if you just drive the truck the soldiers jumped out of u can now be targeted for taking part. Which means for all the reasons listed above the US can provide justification for firing into the crowd under the reasoning the protest was aiding and taking part in an enemy attack which loses its protection. And for clarity sakes in no way am I justifying the shooting of civilians or senseless slaughters of war, war is the most destructive and wasteful thing we’ve ever created and it only serves to kill and destroy lives for no good reason a lot of the time. I’m just stating some of the facts regarding how this would play out if these events really happened

While I don’t agree with what 4TheRecord said, don’t call the Uke’s Nazi’s. The Anzov battalion, which is the source of the Russian propaganda that calls them nazis, numbered only 1,500 individuals before the currently invasion. In a country with a population of millions. Let us not forget that the Uke’s hate the Nazi’s more than most as they slaughtered millions of Ukrainians during World War II. The Russians use a minority to judge all as unworthy of living as an excuse to invade a sovereign nation and commit a literal genocide (which there is plenty of evidences of via bodies and mass graves). If you remember during the initial scene of the firefight, you actually did see many insurgents hiding within the crowd firing at the US soldiers, not just a few.. Many... The insurgents USED the crowd as cover to shoot at the US marines, the crowd knew what they were doing (Aside from the children of course) so when they took a stand to shield the insurgents and allowed the insurgents to hide behind them to fire on the marines on (Technically) US soil. They revoked their rights to be classed as a peaceful crowd and are instead shielding terrorists. At the end of the gunfire, all the hostile fire stopped. This however COULD also be due to the fact that the insurgents may have WANTED the marines to fire into the crowd to use as propaganda to make the US look bad. So they ceased fire once they got the "message" they wanted to send.

@MrLoneWolf0098 жыл бұрын
Christopher Jorge and what about the college kids joining the Marines to fight for their country? I have several democratic liberal college educated friends who voluntarily joined the Marines and army because they felt a need to serve this country. Your copy pasta "The Kids and their 'rules'" mantra that has been rehashed since the great wars is duly noted. I would like to understand your argument, so let me slip into my Conservitard outfit. War crimes, ha, what a silly notion. silly libs and their "rules of war". silly libs, wait. wait what? the Nazis? oh they were evil! Right? Right, because they broke the rules. Not our military though, because they're infallable, and all charges against them must be liberal bias. Get real, go eat a snickers bar and sit down. When you get back to reality, reply to me.

Lawyers dont pass judgment, jagoff. They make an argument and the jury passes judgment. It's how modern democracy works.
@bad74maverick17 жыл бұрын
Here_Pep_Pep NO! the media judges them for us and will edit and incite to whatever means necessary to get a story and ratings, no matter the truth. Then they let a jury decide after they are done influencing. It's guilty until proven innocent and if you are proven innocent the media will print how you got away with it......

@5p33dy305 Жыл бұрын
United Code of Military Justice has their own set of rules not unlike the constitution or bill of rights but tailored towards those who serve. When it comes down to it a lot of those rules of engagement are usually written by people who've never done the job and those rules on the ground can change at any time at a commander's discretion. Go high enough up the chain of command you're no longer a warrior but a politician advocating for those under you to Congress and the Pentagon. Eventually those people lose all sense of what it's like being the low man thus the disconnect from reality compared to their expectations which is what you're seeing now in today's military.

From what I read about this film, the prosecutor was just trying to restore the relationship between US and the middle east by pinning the blame all on Childers. At the very least, Sokal did not put the marines at the top of his list of things to worry about most.

The captain there does need to be careful as I believe they mentioned that some of the court members do have line experience. That meaning they have served in a combat unit with possible combat experience. They will understand that the fog of battle doesn't follow a script. And they will see right through his cross, and have no respect for him.
