- Crankcase ventilation valve (membrane) is part of the valve cover
- Damaged membrane, the valve cover has to be replaced
- Remove fuel pump fuse
- Disconnect battery
- Remove fuel line
- Remove ignition coils
- Disconnect connectors of injectors
- Remove fuel feed lines
- Remove high pressure trail and pressure lines
- Remove high pressure fuel pump

Ich habe aufgrund der Infos und Anleitungen auf der Bimmerprofs Seite das selbe Prozedere durch. Ebenfalls wie bei dir habe ich mit dem neuen Ventildeckel das selbe Ergebnis gehabt wie vorher...ärgerlich. Deine Videos find ich super. Ich habe den n53b30 und kämpfe mit den selben Problemen.

Thanks for video, i feel bad that it didnt fix your problem, dont give up :) cant wait for update. I have N43 (118i) and all my NOX/catalysator problems dissapeared after installing NOXEM from bimmerprofs, i did pass STK (NOK in germany) inspecton too without problem.

NOXEM is definitely good at that point when the NOx catlytic Converter becomes faulty (if it is possible become faulty). Personally, I want to keep the car’s engine as original as possible, including the NOx system because it really affects the engine performance a lot. Just my opinion... 😉

HI, I was wondering if you noticed some oil passed through PCV system, when you disconnect the hose from pcv membrane? I had some oil dripped... wondering if my pcv is bad

I would check breather hose - they are cracking and giving similar symptoms.

Hi, I have N43 too. Last time I feel slightly uneven idle and huge drops rps too much down when deceletating. Tacho 165 000km real. In 125 000km (40 000km ago) was replaced: 4pcs oem new injectors index 11, catalytic converter, both oxygen sensors, delphi coils, ngk spark plugs, timing chain set, camshaft sensors, electric water pump, thermostat, noxem 130 (bimmerprofs), new agm battery, ccv hose (from pcv valve to intake manifold). Tomorrow cleaned MAF, MAP sensors, throttle body. Symptoms: When decelerating, RPMs sometimes drops down to 400rpm, engine kicks and than goes up at to normally idling 730rpm and stable. I checked Adaption gemisch in INPA and found interresting behaviour: If lambda=2,3V, engine runs well. If lambda=1V, engine runs unevenly, idling is still stable, but I feel like engine is slightly irregulary "jumping." I provide PCV test like you - Integrators increase fast up to 30.0, Multiplikativer Adaptionsfaktor B1 B2 increase fast up too. Additiver adaptionsfaktor B1 B2 is still 0.00mg/stk all the time. (engine temp 90°C) So now, I am not sure, if ccv is damaged and I have to buy a new CCV membrane (or whole plastic cover) or if the CCV is working properly.... Fault memory is clear all the time. Have you looked at misfire counters? Hope the MAF sensor cleaning will help your situation. When you replaced the new injectors, lambda sensors, NOXEM, etc ... did you perform resetting and re-teaching the adaptations? And did you code new injectors and NOXEM? For myself, that CCV test I did was a little unclear. With the new valve cover, the Integrator value bounced up even faster than with the old valve cover. Perhaps I should open that old valve cover and see what condition the CCV membrane is.

@@JaniVoutilainen thanks for you reaction. Maf sensor cleaned, all adaptatitons completed again, without effect. Counters are without malfunction. Injectors, lambdas,... etc. was replaced at the official dealer service (because of sales for injectors...), but there is all allright. Noxem is coded too (instructions from bimmerprofs). My opinion is bad pcv or egr valve. I will try to test repeat directly pcv in detail and change a pcv membrane and will see...

Same behavior to mine car, even worse is stalling the engine. Don't know what to change because no error is present.

can the pcv cause misfire. I've got a problem with a 1 series n43 engine .... it has missfire at cylinder 3 , fuel getting in the oil and a few other faults . i ended up replacing all spark plugs , coils, injectors, oil and filter replacement . It was smoking white smoke badly once that was done . my mechanic tried the trick with the pcv and the smoke is gone but it is still misfire at cyl 3 . can it be cause of the pcv or Fuel Tank Ventilation Valve (part no 7551262 ) ? I even tried replacing the ecu kit but it`s the same problem so it is not the ecu

You remove the oil cap and you get unmetered air through the pcv. Lean mixture, hence the correction on the STFT... Maybe this is a valid test if you'd have negative LTFT to begin with?

Hello, I dont know if u still reply at the comment on this video, I had missfire when the engine was running when i was standing still, but after I replace the NOX with an oem one it was gone, but now I have missfires when i drive and i accelerate the car 10% to gain speed, if i push the acceleration harder it doesnt, idk what is the problem, but i noticed that if i open the oil cap i have negative presure and the engine souds rough. do you know what can cause that?

Hi Jani, did you find the fault? I also have a fault indicating the CCV in the rocker cover but I am not convinced the cover has a CCV! I say that as there is no resistance when blowing or sucking on the outlet. I tried this on the old cover and 2 new covers

Hi Jani, maybe you will know .. Is it normal for this engine to consume oil? Can you tell me if after your engine rebuild, the engine consumes oil? In my case, I noticed increased oil consumption while driving on the highway, but in the city the oil consumption is not the same. What makes this difference? Is it because of the CCV?

Oil consumption is a clear sign of a fault, it is not normal for this engine. Please do check if you see any leaks. The o-ring of the chaintensioner and the front crankshaft seal are notorious sources for an oilleak. The valvecover gasket may also leak a bit of oil but that should be minor. just take a good look on the block, the oil filter housing, oil pressure sensor, vanos solenoids, they all have o-rings that may perish. Do you see any smoke from the exhaust? A cracked CCV on this engine will make it idle badly. the CCV in this engine is integrated in the valvecover.

It's probably not the Nox sensor, because bad Nox sensor usually will not cause misfire, but just cause engine stratified mode unavailable which will just increase fuel consumption. Have you considered switch injectors to see if misfire changes cylinder? If your injector has index number below 11 you might consider update them, but they are a bit expensive...

The car has original injectors version -08. There are no more fault codes after replacing the NOx sensor. I have followed the motor Misfire counters; and a small misfires are in cylinders 2 and 3 (Bank 2) and especially in cylinder 3. It would seem that the occasional misfires in my case are precisely related to the injectors. The N43 engine is a pretty interesting package to diagnose! Owning this car could be claimed as a hobby! 😉 I am also trying to make a KZbin video on this topic and diagnosis. Stay tuned!

I have had my E91 320i from 2008 for 4 years, love the fact that it is still a naturally aspirated engine but with enough modern technology to have very good balance between power and consumption. I've replaced the Nox sensor and all 4 injectors, and all ignition coils(I think the Bosch ones are better than Delphi ones, have tried both and Delphi ones failed after 1 year), now it runs perfectly and I still enjoy driving it every day.

Thanks! I assume the CCV valve on the new valve cover is definitely fine. In the test, the new Valve cover gives the same results as the old valve cover; Integrators grow fast up when you open the oil cap. If any professional could answer that this test is valid. Because in the test, the results are the same for the new and the old; conversely, I could assume that the old valve cover would also be fine. I do not know. This test left some questions in the air 😉. I would like confirmation that that CCV can be tested programmatically without having to go open it. I'm considering opening that old valve cover ...

Cover membrane is replaceable - it is difficult. to remove - little black circle cover using hot air. After that you can buy new membrane from: vanos-bmw.com/product/valve-cover-n43-bmw-11127553626 It cost your time and price 20 US dollar.

​@@EIRK2046Y I replaced the membrane, it's not easy procedure. I tried to remove cap using hot air but it was not glued but probably ultrasonic welded. I was very careful, but after all I had to prepare my own cover on lathe. I spent whole day on this, at the end I had same situation as on the video ;)

When I open the Oil cap integrators max out within a second and the engine starts shaking and burning a lot of oil. I think it really is CCV, because NOX is already replaced with noxem.

NOX is relatively easy to diagnose. Dont replace if measurments are correct. NOX sensor could do misfires because is used in long term fuel trims so the error could be from bad adaptations. Did you check which cylinder have misfires and whats the count od it?

There are no more fault codes after replacing the NOx sensor. At the moment no fault codes, but I have random misfires and I have followed the motor misfire counters; and a small misfires are in cylinders 2 and 3 (Bank 2) and especially in cylinder 3. It would seem that the occasional misfires in my case are precisely related to the injectors and stratified charge mode. Will see... I am currently diagnosing injectors

@@JaniVoutilainen Injectors is one case you are right. If problem occurs only in cylinder 2 and 3 you can change spark plugs and ignition coils to 1 and 4. Do it with injector the same and code it to 1 and 4 after that. I have situation that new spark plug ngk was some how broken and do misfire.

Great video! Attempting to do this during de weekend. When you remove the fuel pump fuse do you start the engine so that the fuel lines run empty?

Thanks! 👍 After removing the fuse, it is a good idea to start the car and let it run until it runs out of fuel and the engine shuts off. This removes the pressure on the fuel lines!

Interesting video. Im having problems with the Nox sensor but it's so expensive for changing it and it doesn't make misfires or anything, just the annoying orange light on the dashboard (which i delete with the obdII when it appears). About your codes p2098 and p2C32 I don't really know...O2, Nox, adaptations,... Ofc our engine doesn't have bank2. Hope you make a new video soon!

Try to search on Ebay, I bought my Nox sensor for around 200euro (brand new and version 5). You might not find it at once but patience some times pay ;)

I feel like after new CCV when you open oil cap, the engine stalls faster. So, maybe the old was already coming to an end. Also, I am not sure bimmerprofs were correct about ccv diagnoises for n43. I also have same reaction when I open. To me you can test ccv like here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYO8p56VrMt0nac Also, if you have stable idle and no oil lose, and that test, I thinkk ccv is fine. But, I know you were chasing that code error.

I also noticed for myself that the Integrators bounce faster with the new valve cover. Oil consumption has been normal and idling steady except during a cold start (approximately 10-15 seconds) when the engine is running in an open loop, in which case a slight unevenness in the engine is observed. As soon as the engine's wideband Probes have warmed up and the engine moves to a closed loop, idle is smooth.
