Didn't know one can actually do a timing chain test like that. Waiting for a new video :) i guess I have to clean my camshaft sensors too. As preventative.

Hi, I have same problem with misfire Per cylinders, first was just first one, i changed injector with new one from BMW, now I have misfire 1/2/3/4 but not in same time, car has new timing, new ignition coils/spark Plugs.. Maybe the problem are vanos solenoids?

Amazing video, fixed my 2A99 error code! However, when doing the timing chain test, i got this result: "The elongation of the timing chain is still within the permissible tolerance." Do you think that i should swap it? I got some ticking in the engine after doing all the tests in ista, but after a little drive they were gone.

I don't think it exists in the N43 engine. There is no such part / filter in the spare parts list. Correct someone if I'm wrong!

Apparently you have removed and cleaned both VANOS solenoids and the camshaft position sensors. Less frequently, both solenoids or sensors (intake & exhaust) fail at the same time. You should check the fault history with INPA to see if there have been any other fault codes recently which could be partly to blame like oil pressure or something like that ... Hard to say but hopefully you will find a solution!

Can a faulty vanos solenoid or mucked up sensor cause low oil pressure? Great videos by the way. I’ve done my engine timing change because it was due on mileage ( guides were all intact) Currently have changed my pressure control solenoid and now will be changing my oil pressure sensor tomorrow but I don’t think it’s faulty. Red oil Light comes on when I’m stationery. Makes me believe it has something to do with vanos solenoids … don’t think it has anything to do with my oil pump or bearings tbh.

@@eltigre7001 there was no evidence that there was any timing guide pieces as the old one had all its pieces and in previous years I changed the oil every year. Fast forward a few years of driving with the light on and off. Changed all three solenoids and red light still showed… turns out the mechanic changed the temperature sensor and not the oil pressure sensor (both look the same and literally next to each other on the block) jack ass! Anyways changed it myself with a extension and didn’t have to move anything and never saw the light again.

Dear Jani, thank you for the videos, they are all very useful! I have BMW e90 (2010) saloon model, with N43 engine 2lt petrol. I received low oil pressure error last friday, and first thing next day I changed oil filter and oil. I thought it would solve the problem. Next day I got the same error, 30c1 low oil... So, I decided to took to the car to BMW, and they suggested changing "oil pressure control valve" and "oil pump". Due to cost, I just approved changing "oil pressure control valve". I got the keys, and drove about 10 miles, and before leave the car I waited on idle for 5 -10 minutes, and all of sudden same fault appeared. I am not quite willing to change the oil pump at BMW as they requested more then 1000 pounds. The engine sounds just fine, with no vibration or noise. How can I understand if the problem is with the pump? Any advise?

Damaged timing chain guides can clog the suction funnel of the oil pump, preventing the oil from circulating normally and causing that problem. I would say it is a good idea to either use the valve cover off and check the timing chain and plastic guides, or I would remove the oil sump and check for signs of broken timing chain guides. At the same time, you should also check that suction funnel. In addition, the seal of the suction funnel should also be replaced, because if it leaks, the same thing ... These are just my guesses but possible causes. Can anyone else bet on anything else? Hope you get the problem solved! 👍

Hi Jani, I just wanted to give an update regarding low oil pressure problem in my N43 engine BMW. The car had a new oil pressure control valve (fitted by BMW service), however, this did not solve the problem. I decided to bring the car to a good BMW specialist. They removed and inspected the oil sump, and told me that they did not identify a major problem that could cause significant reduction in oil pressure. Finally, they suggested changing the pump. I approved this, and a new and original BMW oil pump (complete unit) was fitted into my car. Next day, I drove the car for about 35miles in relatively high rpm in motorway. After this, I parked the car and waited in the idle for 15-20 minutes. All of sudden, same fault appeared... I connected my computer to see the fault freeze screen in inpa, and it shows that the oil pressure was 1bar. Monday I will go to the same garage to ask them to have another look. I was wondering if you have any suggestions? I am considering to ask them to check the oil pressure levels using manual gauge (manometer). What do you think?

I don't know the oil pressure side so closely that I could advise. To my understanding, oil pressures can be monitored with the INPA program. I hope you can find the solution! Keep me and others up to date on how to solve the problem 👍

The same fault came back again while idling after 30-35 miles :( I tried to find oil pressure readings using INPA, but I cannot find this data on inpa. Below is the link of INPA connected to my car. Yes, if the fault changes sides for Inlet and Exhaust. Have you tried cleaning that "faulty" one?
