Hi, what torque would you use for the M8 spline bolt when tightening up again?
@volvot5turbo22 күн бұрын
What size bolt did you replace? Looking at getting a couple ready for when I do mine. Thanks.

Thanks for the video. Why must the jacking mode be switched on? Also why remove battery negative terminal, surely the compressor will never run if the ignition is off?

Пичове, какво точно правят тези малки жълти клапани на предните възглавници, които се водят "residual pressure holding valve"? Държат въздуха във възглавницата ли?

Hello, good video. I wanted to ask for advice on removing the upper part - the air inlet. How can I remove the input? In the video it is not visible. Thanks for the information.

Hello Radim ! We removed it with normal open wrench ( something around 10mm , i believe was the nut ) . Its not so tight . We didn't film it because there were no space for the camera and our hands :)

Hi there! Thanks for video. Is it going to pump up the new bag after installation? Or you need VAG to get it alive?
@crank36467 жыл бұрын
Its going to pump itself . You going to need Vag Com , if you want to do suspension alignment after that . I have video about that .

Crank when I changed mine I found recalibration was not necessary.

Hi, do you know where I can buy the airline fitting? The one for the rear air spring and the ones at the block (in front)
@crank36466 жыл бұрын
Usually they come with the new / repaired air struts , so i guess a shop that selling this kind of struts should have this in stock

Can this job be done if I don't have a car lift? Can I just lift the car on axle stands and will there be enough space under the car to accomplish this change? Thanks

Hello MrCurry ! Its good idea to use jacking mode , it locks the suspension . This is recommended by VW , because one or more air springs can be damaged ( never seen that , but not going to risk it , for a 5 second job :) ) . About the battery . When the car is left for a longer period of time , the air suspension is awakening from time to time , to check if the car is in the right suspension alignment , if its not , the compressor engages . If you know witch is the air compressor fuse , you can just remove it , till you finish your job . Yes you can do this job infront of your garage :)

Thanks for that fantastic reply, I will have a go at it. It's a bit of a scary job to take on for a normal guy who doesn't work on cars, but the saving to be had compared to paying a workshop is motivating me to at least try! Does removing the airline need any special tool or skill? I guess the spline bolt which releases the cover is the only special or unusual tool needed. I've ordered a set of spline hex bits.

If i remember right , the only struggle you will see , when you doing this job on the ground , is to make enough room for removing and installing the air spring itself . You will need something long and tough to be able to pry the suspension arm out of your way . Probably you will need some friend to help you with this . For the air line . Just start to undo it slowly , when the air start to go out , wait a little till all the air comes out , after that you can undo it all the way . It was 10 or 11 mm wrench if i remember right .

Thanks. I can get my neighbour to come and help if necessary, but I read on a forum it's possible to screw a wheel nut into the hub then stand on a half inch extension bar to move the suspension arm while you put the new air bag into place. Hard to know if it works until tried, but I'll let you know :)

Hi, I tried fitting my replacement air springs today, but I can't get the M8 spline bolt back in.... It seems like the hole doesn't line up with the threaded insert quite right. Maybe my air springs are junk (they came from China) or perhaps I'm doing something wrong? Is there any trick to getting the bolt in, or should it just all line up?
@crank36467 жыл бұрын
Hello MrCurry ! It should lined up , if you install the air spring in the correct spots . No tricks or magics , just patience and alignment :) Never used china springs , its possible to have some problems .

Crank hey guys. Just to let you know I did change my air springs in the end, both sides. Was a helluva job to get the spline bolt back in but with inspection mirror and a small Allen key to lever the bolt into right place I succeeded in the end. Thanks for your video which helped save me £800!!

How did the chinese ones hold up?
@PVflying2 жыл бұрын
@@DutchDukeMan still going strong now, nearly five years later (it was May ‘17 I changed them). I looked back at my notes from the time and the pair of air springs with shipping from somewhere in the east (Hong kong?) was $225. They were bought from “Maxpeedingtuning” store on AliExpress.
