Hey great vid! I'm a CTR veteran and still have the PS1 disc, so I was very interested in how this mechanic would now work. It appears that unlike the original, USF is not cancelled by other boosts, but neither do they seem to add any speed for its duration. I did Oxide station in 3:21:43 (Oxide's time is 3:27:67), and I was no slower avoiding the 4 turbos after the 2nd super pad. That's my little research info, hope it helps! Edit: Looks like turbos DO prolong USF, though you basically need constant power slide/hang time boosts to keep it going. In Tiny Temple it is necessary to keep USF for all of lap 2 & 3 to beat Oxide. In doing so I went from 45 seconds lap 1 to 29 seconds lap 3! USF is a vital technique!

How long do reserves last if you don't keep the boost? Does it boost you until you run out of reserves?
@Chibuga5 жыл бұрын
If you don't boost then you will keep going until reserves run out (depends on how many boost you have chained together), get hit, or barely touch a wall. It's best to keep boosting and avoid obstacles/walls so that doesn't happen.
@yourface075 жыл бұрын
Chibuga Bandicoot so does the reserve chain have a cap or is it potentially infinite? Like, could you effectively build up infinite reserves?
@aesontuazon23205 жыл бұрын
Flawless try doing and chaining boosts at Coco park with 7 laps. Do it for the first 6 laps then release it on the final lap. You have to aim for the perfect boost every single time. I have tried this and kept a whole turbo during the whole last lap. Idk how to upload it as im playing on switch. But yeah. Try and chain boosts for the first 6 laps then it should be there. Its so awesome

So my main take away from this mechanic is that being able to constantly drift and boost is the best way to play. Even before I knew what sacred fire was, I figured that was the fastest way to finish a track. But now that I understand this mechanic, does it really make any difference to me if my viewpoint already was to drift and boost as much as possible anyway? It’s seems like the cool part is that all of the reserves will keep you going that fast even if you are not drifting, but it also seems like the best way to play is to drift whenever possible anyways
@setsers15 жыл бұрын
Oh Jesus
@Chibuga5 жыл бұрын
Well some people don't realize this and will stop drifting, thus losing reserves. Also with this knowledge you should know that if you go over a boost pad and manage to keep it's fire, you don't need to go over another one. So for example on Oxide station at the very beginning, I always see people go down the turn and go all the way to the outside lane to get the boost pad. That's way slower then staying on the inside of the turn especially if you still have the same fire speed from the 1st or 2nd boost pad. It's the same on turbo track. Once you go over a boost pad you don't need to go over any others as long as you keep the fire.
@VanderSalad5 жыл бұрын
Chibuga Bandicoot ah that clicks for me now, makes more sense thanks :)
@skyazulvent27025 жыл бұрын
With this mechanic in mind, are the advanced characters still good for maintaining blue fire or are other types of racers preferable. In Cortex Castle, I always end up brake sliding on the right turn before the first bridge gap after the finish line as any speed character but in the video, hopping as crash lets you keep it until the 2-way path after the first spider. Something similar happens in Hot Air Skyway.
@Chibuga5 жыл бұрын
It depends on your skill level because better handling helps you not crash with fire. But at the end of the day top speed has the highest speed and is better in the long run.

i dont understand how to get sacred fire lasting long.as soon as i do another 3 boost it goes away... before i can finish the 3 boost.
@timekeeper29145 жыл бұрын
@BannedByDemand it's all about "boost reserves". Make sure you have boosted plenty before getting USF. A good example is Hyper Speedway - at the start you must do a triple slide boost just before hitting the mega jump to keep USF after the jump, then keep boosting to maintain it.
@Chibuga5 жыл бұрын
Have you gone over a boost pad? It's easier to keep fire while boosting over those. Also make sure to boost when the meter is at the fullest.

You need a lot of reserves left over so you don't run out. Also you may be holding your brakes to long. You have to jump immediately because holding breaks for a fraction of a second can make you lose reserves immediately.
@thefellowspycrab83815 жыл бұрын
Do you lose your reserves when you U-turn?
@Chibuga5 жыл бұрын
Yes! You lose reserves rapidly fast if you press brakes at all. The reason I kept reserves is because I had a lot stocked up from my boost chains throughout the track.

Its actually a No. It seems that U-Turning may drain your reserves faster, but if you have enough reserves youll keep Sacred or Blue Fires. Only U-Turn if you absolutely have to.

If youre not comfortable with “Hopping” techniques, you can U-Turn by pressing Brake and Down+Left/Right on the DPad all at the same time. Has to be the DPad and not diagonal on the analog stick. DPad only. ALSO! Make sure you have lots of reserves left if you wanna keep your Fire, cus braking drains your reserves fast!

It's kinda of a thing you have to feel. The only visual representation you see is the size of the flames on the back of your vehicle. However that's more for knowing what speed level you are at. Anyway it doesn't really matter sense reserves disappear in a few seconds so if you aren't constantly power sliding then you are losing.
