A good trick for preventing theft is to use 6 ft of braided fishing line on the end of your camo cord. This line is so small it is virtually invisible from a short distance and very strong. Tie it around a rock, etc. I also make buoys from small pieces of driftwood for boat sets, using a short length of braid. Gary Northrop

Use your cellphone Maps to mark each exact set location.

Thought the best tip was the short soak. They don't need to be in as long as you think if your in a good spot. With a little trial and error of best bait and locations, put them on the soak and toss a couple lures or drown a few worms for a while. Cool video as always. May your traps and bellies be full boys.

Good techniques, personally I see a problem, I don’t have a boat!
@crayster39264 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's a problem you probably need to fix. Everyone needs a boat. Thanks for watching!

How do you keep the rope low enough that a prop doesn't catch it?
@crayster39264 жыл бұрын
Keep the buoy low, and set them in coves where boats don't go as much if possible.
@russellthomas121623 күн бұрын
We have to use a highly visible buoy ... I do not think it has to be above the water line LOL
@JD-gn6du3 жыл бұрын
Sadly my state requires a visible bouy for any unattended trap

Use your cellphone’s Maps to mark each exact set gps location within a few feet and take a picture to identify exactly the spot. !¡! Never use white, orange, red or floating polypropylene rope !¡!

Very sorry to hear that. I bet you wanted to Pumble them like we did in this episode.

Hey gentlemen thanks for another great hack! These are excellent ideas. I always use camouflage line too, the only downside being that it can be hard to find my traps if I don't remember exactly where I've set them! Not a big deal if I only set a few, but if I set all 10 traps (and then have a beer or two while they soak) it gets awfully hard to remember where each one is.😜 And regarding the underwater set: You don't need a buoy if you use floating line (like polypropylene) to connect the traps. One final tip: Always count your traps before you set them, and double check that you have all of them loaded back into the car/boat/whatever before you head home. It can be easy to forget one. Take care, guys, and I hope your summer is off to a great start. Cheers! -Michael

You can also snap a photo of where your rope comes ashore with your cell phone, making sure to include some sort of landmark like a big rock. And you can do that from a boat or from shore.

Ya, I have had lots of traps stolen when I was younger and it was because I didn’t hide the line. Now that I hide the line,. It’s been years since I have had one stolen.

Good idea. What do you think of using canned herring for bait. Or fillet walleye carcuses
@crayster39264 жыл бұрын
I would give it a shot and see what happens. Might be good.

What’s the temperature you want to fish them at? I tried in 60 degree weather and didn’t catch any?
@crayster39264 жыл бұрын
60 is usually good. It really depends where you are. It is still a touch early. If you don't get any with in two weeks I would find a new spot.
