Thanks for the Trains VRF. The view (07:00) across the Valley and Township at Cumberland was nice to see. (14:00) Good to see Illinois Terminal on the point, but she still needs a clean. At Waycross (20:20) I enjoyed watching the Trucks and Suspension of CSX 1136 as she traversed the Point-work.

One is an ex-CN GP40-2LW with wide cab, while the other is an ex-Conrail GP38-2 3:17 empty low-center flatcar placed after the rear DPU on the same coal train the black units were on 4:12 an Amtrak Phase VII geep trailing on a cSX train through La Grange! 4:25 two BNSF locos, two barrier hoppers, and two automated inspection coaches 6:06 grapple crane with a special base moving between gondolas 7:04 CSX 3914 trailing through Cumberland 7:48 Conrail boxcar and Southern gondola on a welded rail train 8:54 unusual containers without sides or a roof. 9:23 Cascades F40 cabbage, five horizon cars, phase V P42 154 and phase VII P42 138 9:33 all CN power on a BNSF oil train, the DPU is ex-Citirail 10:49 Carolina Coastal Railway GP15-1. The livery is similar to that of the old Norfolk Southern (Known as Norfolk and Southern Railroad prior to 1942) 11:16 not only did this driver drive towards an oncoming train, but almost hit a pedestrian before that! looks like they need to be re-tested on their driving! 12:31 John Deere tractors 12:55 Rock Island hoppers 13:35 Williamette & Pacific SD9, still in SP gray. This unit was built in 1955, rebuilt to SD9E specs in 1975, became a W&P unit in 1994, and was sold in January 2024 at the request of the EPA 14:08 WOW! Amtrak 161 'Arrow", 203 in Operation Lifesaver livery, and two freshly overhauled LA metrolink cars on the Southwest Chief. (again at 17:00) I saw pictures of this amazing consist in Kansas City, but did not see it myself. 14:44 fool around and find out! I hope the new Siemens cars don't have this gap 15:23 Oregon & northwestern boxcar 15:54 Conrail coal hopper 19:45 NS 1111 leading 20:44 quite some exhaust coming from these four K&O units 21:25 an entire train of TTX boxcars 22:30 NS ballast train, all orange hoppers 23:04 MOW equipment at work on Horseshoe Curve, installing new rail 25:25 replacing the bridge in front of the WMSR camera 25:40 CSX 1852 as mid-train DPU

They really need to fix the boarding situation at Ashland. Nothing there tells you which side your train will pull up on, and the trains will switch sides throughout the day. When I visited, they told me the only way to know was to wait for the train to be close and look down the tracks and see what side the headlight’s on. If a freight train is running, there’s nothing you can do but miss your train.

Can anybody tell me what that machine was doing at 6:05? And what were those handsome purple cars with the T on their sides? It is an excavator on a chassis that allows it to "walk" across gondola cars. It is used to either set off ties or load ties from the gondola cars below.

In Ashland, don't they make announcements beforehand as to which track the train will be boarding on? I know at the mbta commuter rail stations, the message is usually posted if there's a change in track.

No announcements or signs ... Amtrak trains can arrive on either track, and there's no indication of which it will be until the train is in sight.

For nearly 50 years old the Rock Island hoppers looked in remarkably good. Also a pink Klemme Co-Op hopper. Painted pink so yardmasters would hate to see them and get them out of their sight as soon as possible. Or on a more negative moment when the car got lost in a yard it was easier to find, In those days it was not unusual for enraged shippers to enter the yard to find "their" car and take the problem face to face with the yard master.

Those new MBTA cars are coming North FROM assembly plant thru Ashland, VA TO Boston and there are numerous thru rail routes from the VA area to Boston, MA so all railroad transit for this equipment is not a problem.

They could have went to the left like most of the cars do. I live near a town that has tracks coming down the Main Street (West Brownsville) and trust me, with the headlight on and the enormous size of the engine, it can be seen from quite a distance.

If you watch the Grab Bags long enough you will see humor/animals/oddities/music/etc along with 95% Train clips. We have a diverse crowd from hard core train fans to "I like Trains and more" folks. I guess I can’t say I blame these people for risking their lives just to beat, crawl under or climb, or worse even tries to play chicken. I adored mighty machine of trains. But now. The Railroads isn’t the same old time anymore.
