Crawler Canyon Quick(re)view: Furitek Lizard 10 ESC for outrunner

Low speed is amazing, the app works seamlessly, super user friendly. HOWEVER, some motor combos have a pronounced "two speed" effect as the esc switches between sinusoidal and pulse width modulation which can yield stability issues in serious comp rigs. Running a little warm? I've smoked SEVERAL of their ESC. I've had JST and bluetooth ports de-solder themselves from the boards. All while inside the manufacturer specifications. This is not an attack on the company. Furitek stands behind their product 100% in my personal experience. Tony made it right EVERY time. I've sent pictures and discussed problems to help diagnose past issues. They are wonderful to deal with. Minus the one month shipping wait. (Vietnam) I have ESCs that are five years old and going strong. None are furitek. No hate, just my personal experience. And for the price, I think people should know the risks.

It's cool to see the quiet outrunner ESCs becoming more available. Based on the comments, it seems like this one may not play as nicely with higher kv motors. I wonder if higher kv are drawing more of that current? Glad to see you happy on a quick view 🤘

I absolutely Love the performance of the lizard 10, when it works... so, I bought one with the 2k kv furitek motor. It worked great for about 2 hours, but it did get very hot. Both motor and esc. Second run it burst into flames after about 15 minutes. I really hope they get it figured out. I have a few 1/24th scale furitek esc's and they are great.

This one came off the course at about 100º, and the motor was around the same. Ambient was like 86º, so I expected these kinds of temps. BUT... I do run pretty low KV motors across the board, I don't have anything above an 1850. This test was with a 1450 on 3S, so not super taxing.

@Crawler Canyon perhaps low kv is the key. I figured the combo was tested together, thus it should have been flawless. A friend of mine purchased the 2500kv furitek motor with his and had cogging issues as well as high temps. Furitek is currently attempting to solve the problem. I will say that their customer service is beyond most companies. I am confident that we will reach a pleasant outcome. It is possible that I'm just a tad impatient as a result of acknowledging how good it's going to be. 🤷🏽‍♂️ lol

Everyone has different experiences, and This Furitek Lizard 10 is to me as the IDSC70 is to you. I had nothing but issues with mine and gave up and it now just sits in a bin. Mine overheated and shut down almost immediately (within 1 minute) of trying to use it on my crawlers. I tried 3 different motors, 2 outrunners and a slate all in the 1800-2000kv range. All 3 motors work just fine with many other ESCs I have but just not the Furitek. I will admit the bluetooth on this is pretty nice to work with though.

This might again come down to me and my love of low-KV motors-- most of my outrunners are in the 1400-1600 range. I have several sub-1000kV motors that get run on 3S, so I'm definitely not hunting for speed. I would contact Furitek. I mean, I would ABSOLUTELY contact Furitek. If one to see if they care. iSDT does not care. About anything.

I just sent my Lizard 10 back due to overheating and burning up on a test run in my Phoenix first run. The new one is a couple weeks out. I bought a Fusion Pro to replace it.

@@henrikstengaard-pedersen2488 I got the replacement Lizard Ten in this evening. I mounted it up set a few points and went out to the rocks for less than 10 minutes. With the cooling fan it still got very warm. I don't think it will last.

That's crazy that is crazy because I'm having trouble with the smaller ones getting real hot there's something off about that system it's a good system really good but there is something off

😅 that's exactly what I'm doing I'm going straight to the Fusion Pro my buddy that's a lot of 1/10 and he told me he said just don't do it just go to a fusion

I've got one of the small Furitek ESC's in my SCX24. I was very impressed with the Bluetooth app. That said, I've only used the app two or three times. Once I get an ESC dialed in the way I want, I almost never fiddle with it again. So it's hard to justify the price of a Lizard 10 with Bluetooth when there are AM32 options at a third or half the price.

The Lizard 10 is significantly smoother than any other AM32 I've used-- it really does feel like the offspring of a Fusion Pro and a Rhino. The pricepoint seems you know... high, until I remember that a "cheap" Castle combo is $200+ and is the UBERMEH

Nice review! I have a Furitek Komodo combo in my 24th scale and I've often thought their software was the best in the biz. The slowness out of that out runner is so slow it's almost imperceptible. I love their stuff so far, but as you mentioned, it's a premium. They have a transmitter/radio combo that seems pretty good too, I'd like to see that reviewed.

While I don’t have a Furitek Lizard 10, I do have about 10 of their micro esc and they are fantastic, The adjustability is amazing Its the one thing I miss when using am32 esc’s.

Canyon approved, I'd say! Baseline is becoming a pretty competent rig! The good thing about successfull quickview is that the reviewed product passes the test greatly, but th downside is the short video... For my first rig I bought the QR 1200KV. Something to get me started on your advice. Which I'm gonna need again. With the first one still to build I'm already making plans for the second one. So, you're selection for a premium ESC-motor combo was Rhino V80-Surpass 3542s or a Fusion Pro. Can I add this ESC to the list combined with a 9Imod 3542 1400KV?

I would personally still take the Rhino on pricepoint alone-- a Rhino + a 3542 is under 100 bucks on AliExpress. What I like most about the Lizard 10 is a properly done BT integration. I still am not of the sort to use it all the time, but this one is as well done as any of ever seen (for any BT product, not just toy cars) but it's still a bit rich for me, as it's $20 from a Fusion Pro, which is as set-it-and-forget-it as it comes. Cleanliness of install goes huge to the Fusion as well. The Furitek is definitely more points in the pros column than in the cons, but it would-- speaking for myself-- still be third choice.

@@CrawlerCanyon Seeing the next episode, the smoothness of that Lizard was epic! And that app was also next level, turning that average brushed motor into a great powersupply. However sometimes things live their own live and die... I remember being 10 and making lights for my traintable, using bicycle bulbs. And then after the wiring was ready pluging it into the wall socket 😬 That being said, I'll take your advice and order myself a Rhino and a 3542. For the Rhino there is that little 10€ dongle. Do I need that to set the ESC up?

I really like the furitek stuff but there is some glitches in a man it gets hot there is caulking on the smaller stuff such as 1/24 1/18 and I had heard of them catching on fire from what I have seen I would rather spend 150 on the Fusion Pro and get the motor ESC everything it was rather than spend 120 on esc

Had one in also, and when it works, it's absolutly great. But mine fried itself 🥵 and it is'nt quite cheap. So i went over to a Fusion Pro

I got one and had issues with it ...I run it on a Holmes Hobbies 1800kv and 2250kv I just could not get the low end the way I wanted it...I do see theirs a software upgrade will try again...

I was using a stock-sized pinion, 18T. I didn't get into any of the setting changes because drag brake rate and force already come maxed out, which is where I usually end up anyway.

I tried a 16T pinion and the Furitek esc heated up - much better back at 18T - thanks for the Baseline series - I got my SE same time you did and have been crushin lines here in AZ ever since!

Does adjusting the throttle control on the transmitter override the Furitek program or vice versa?

Dunno. The low speed control was so good, I wouldn't see a need to dial in any curve on the radio. The "tester" profile on that RC4GS has no adjustments made, so it's at "stock" settings.

I guess I've been lucky, because the one that's in fleet service (DIablo) has had no issues, even with a tiny 3523 motor on 4S in a rig that's a bit heavy.
