Cuban Rider, That was exactly what I was thinking when he was taking the curves. The pylons appeared to be pretty close to those wings. "Yeah OUCH! Sorry man I just wrecked your sweet race car." Just needs a bit of carbon fiber repair. Ha ha ha oops.

Nice car. You should also let the owner of the cars do some timed runs. They know their car best and can extra a good lap time.

As an 03 bugeye owner, can confirm the brake/throttle pedal positioning and the narrow gap between the trans tunnel and throttle pedal make heel toe pretty tough.

Same for my GC models, It's much easier on a right hand drive Subaru though
@julianslowik5387
@julianslowik5387 4 жыл бұрын
Can’t say I agree. Bugeyes are simple to heel toe in. Throttle response is much better on these older Subaru’s because they don’t have fly by wire. Also the pedal setup is pretty damn good.
@mmeyershome
@mmeyershome 4 жыл бұрын
@@julianslowik5387 Hey to each their own, but the bugeyes tend to have long brake pedal travel and the brake pedal already starts out almost even with the accelerator, so you have to move your foot out and back to blip the throttle under braking and you have to be careful not to snag the accelerator when you don't mean to. The trans tunnel is also close to the accelerator on LHD cars and these factors make it a bit tougher (although it is still better than a lot of cars), especially for those with big feet. Also the throttle response thing just isn't true, especially on modified cars with a bigger turbo. While I enjoy the feel of drive by cable, you can do things with drive by wire that you simply can't do with drive by cable to generate better response.
@julianslowik5387
@julianslowik5387 4 жыл бұрын
Michael Meyers the pedals in most cars tend to be the same way. Also turbo lag is turbo lag doesn’t matter what kind of throttle you have. The best part about a throttle cable is instant open throttle body. Theres no electronic recognition in between. I agree you can adjust and make fly by wire response better than it would be stock. But to compare the two are night and day different especially for rev matching and heel toe-ing. I was just trying to say it’s not the hardest car to do it in.

i love the builds but the thing that sets this channel apart from the other build channels is the race day/ track day. yeah a car might produce great numbers on the dyno but seeing it move n set times (not a quarter mile) is much more satisfying to me.

Subaru Impreza WRX’s are perhaps the best value 4 cylinder turbo AWD Manual sedans out there, but it’s always the little things that seem to prevent people looking to upgrade from their 200,000 mile Honda Civic Si. The much longer shifter throws, strange heel toe position, shakey interior, some years with tragic rust and head gasket issues, and much lower mpg. Eventually after years of owning the 2004 Blob eye the Civic Si sedan eventually took the cake as the more economical and kid-friendly road trip family car. To this very day, friends and family are still debating the two and swapping back in forth between brands as our priorities slowly shift and change.

I was hoping that it was a stroked EJ22, not a stroked EJ20, but still a cool build. 295 is a lot of meat for that car, and it looks like it grips really well.

@upgradeNEVER
@upgradeNEVER 4 жыл бұрын
Needs to put the EJ22 sleeves in it! Make it a proper motor - 2.4! What some people have done down here in NZ is the EJ22 sleeves, and then they throw in a EJ25 crank. So you keep the EJ20 high redline of 8000rpm, but gain most of the torque of the EJ25. Makes it like a 2.35 in the end.

Hybrid engine builds like these are the best. I’d really like an EJ22T block (which is closed-deck from factory in early 90’s turbo legacies) with an aftermarket 81mm crank and bore-matched EJ207 heads.
@upgradeNEVER
@upgradeNEVER 4 жыл бұрын
@@jordanlatta good luck finding one of those EJ22T blocks! IIRC they only came out in the 22B. I'd start with a EJ207 from a JDM STI, EJ22 sleeves, probably an aftermarket stroker kit (not a EJ257 crank), and the rest would be fully built, and over built lol. Garrett G25-550 bottom mount, with front mount, reversed and raised intake manifold for shorter piping (and keeping AC), and a sequential. This would be a totally over built street car for me 😂
@jordanlatta
@jordanlatta 4 жыл бұрын
upgradedBACON YES! Reversed intakes are the jam for front mount intercoolers. I think it would be fun to have two smaller turbos that feed a front mount from each side. But I’m pretty sure you can find junkyard EJ22T blocks here in the US with a little looking on Car-part.com, as they came in turbo Legacies from 1991-1994. That’s mostly where the 22B got its parts from, including oil squirters behind the pistons for cooling them, which is another reason I want that block in particular. Although the 22B got different heads (same heads as the closed-deck EJ20G block) than the Legacy... cause the Legacy heads kinda suck 😗
@upgradeNEVER

@@jordanlatta Hmmmm. I'm not sure how much info is out there about this car, but look into the Lancia Delta S4 EVO that was gonna compete in Group B in 1987, if the class wasn't banned due to multiple deaths sadly. That was gonna be a parallel TT l4. You can always mod the block for those oil squirters. IIRC, a company in NZ is able to do it. If I was to build a MEGA Subaru engine (in my dreams really lol) I wouldn't miss anything. It would all be done to the highest spec, with every possible option. Thinking my dreams might just have to settle for a Toyota Trueno Levin BZ-R in the near future. They're not a bad little car though! Got the 2nd Gen 4A-GE black top in them!

Roll center adjustment? Bar stiffness? Sway/coil rate ratio? Low speed compression adjustment? Lots of lateral skip/hop mid-corner and obvious inside rear tire lift which rapidly transfers weight to the outside rear. Hmm. Methinks the setup has room for improvement. Great vid per usual Dave :)

He would go a long way to decreasing drag by shielding those tires. The flares are pretty pointless, especially in the front. All the air spilling around the sides of the bumper is directed straight at the front of the tires. The rear are also quite exposed. I'd be surprised if those flares aren't generating lift. The canards and wings are firing air right at the front of the tire and whatever doesn't spill around the side is going up over the top and applying force to those flares and the underside of the fenders. Also that front splitter is way too high. There's a couple inches of clearance from the pavement during steady state cornering a 07:41. Put wear strips on it and if you don't regularly wear them down, it's not low enough. Raise the wings up and drop the splitter.

@speedacademydave
@speedacademydave 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed, definitely not setup for TMP (which is quite bumpy in places) and Alex did mention to me before driving it that the dampers were maxed out so he does plan to upgrade those to better control the springs. The challenge with a car with this much aero is to keep the front wing off the ground, which requires serious spring rates, without making it so stiff that it struggles for mechanical grip in the slower/bumpier corners.
