there is one caveat, if on the off chance your glue dries before you get the canvas on, you can use an iron to melt the two layers of glue together, this only works because wood glue (PVA) is a polymer (plastic) that melts at a reasonably low temp, but I would be cautious and only use that technique if you absolutely have to, and it would only work with cloth glue ups because its thin

This was perfect as a vanity desk for me. kzbin.infoUgkxMAlHv7-BBWMrPRm5-uEoD6rtdT7SG2Qr Especially the glossy finish. Easy to cleanI was looking for something that wasn't the traditional white and with more of a modern feel. This fit the bill beautifully. I put it together with no problems, by myself in under an hour.Make sure you double check where you place the drawer tracks before screwing down. I had one track that needed to be aligned with different holes than the rest.

Yep exactly what I was thinking. We had a few goats at one point growing up and we put cable spools in their pen for them to climb on. Anyways maybe this table looks better in the kitchen or dining room or wherever it's going, but it's definitely not my taste for residential furniture. Could be decent in a brewery.

Handy hint when you're applying your finish to the undercoat with the threaded inserts: put some spare bolts in the inserts while you finish, saves getting gunk in your threads

3:15 When you're talking about the 57 inches, that IS the circumference. When you divide that by pi, you get the diameter. So you're basically talking about the diameter. I just wanted to clarify. C = pi x D. So C / pi = D

For that canvas, you can use David Piccuito's veneer trick. Put glue on both surfaces and let it dry. Then you can place the canvas down and move it around so there are no wrinkles. Finally, just use an iron to melt the glue and permanently affix it in place.

Hey Jason. Next time when you need a clamp for round things, I think a vehicle ratchet strap would work great. Oh, and another idea, instead of using a piece of scrap wood to help drill/cut, just get some pink insulation foam from the hardware store. It will be flat, you can cut into it, it is light, it is easily replaceable, but most importantly you are not using scrap wood. This will allow you to keep that for further projects with no unnecessary cuts or holes in it. Love the table!

Ah! You finally got a Shaper Origin! Welcome to the club, you’re gonna love it! BTW, ensure that your circles are really perfect especially when they are large like the one you made. I’ve noticed a slight inconsistency with large diameter circles depending on how much Shaper tape you’ve used and the amount of dominos the Shaper can see so keep an eye on that domino detector in the upper right corner of the screen as you cut. Side note, I checked the consistency of the diameter by also adding a small center hole to my pattern, then using that as a pivot point for a gauge. None of this matters if tolerance is irrelevant - if it’s a table top, 1/16” variance won’t make a difference. But if you’re using the large circle as a gear (for lack of a better example), then you may want to check that you have a perfect circle.

While I was watching as you made the jig for applying your canvas backer to your base pieces I had a thought. Being as I haven't personally done this before I thought I would put it out there to see what I might be overlooking. Rather than laying your pieces with the curved face down, couldn't you have stretched the canvas over your jig, leaving it a little long, and then applied your pieces flat side down?
@krisbabic89
@krisbabic89 3 жыл бұрын
Could be wrong but it may be that it’s easier bc you can apply glue to all the wood at once and you can lay the fabric down in 1 sheet vs piece by piece. It eliminates having to apply glue to each piece individually

Oddly enough, at 3:14, I think you mean to say that the circumference is determined by the diameter. In this case, the circumference is the length. Dividing the circumference by pi gives you the diameter; therefore, your laid out length needs to be pi multiplied by the desired base diameter.

It's a beautiful table. I'm curious as to why, instead of affixing the top to the base after it's assembly, one wouldn't attach the top circle of the base to the table top, then assemble the base that way. The inner slats could be attached to the base top first before attaching the top to the base top, then the base bottom could be attached and then finally the fluted canvas. That would at least avoid the awkwardness of attaching the table top last, but I'm probably just overlooking something.
