This was one of the coolest things I saw at CES, a vehicle that you could drive around and possibly never have to charge or add fuel. Will this vehicle maker make it long term? I am eager to see. Hope you enjoy this video about the Aptera. Post your thoughts/comments/questions below.

Thanks for your thoughts on this incredible vehicle. I'm an investor and I'm really hoping that people see that we should have more efficient vehicles on the road and just how cool they can look as well. Having seen it in person as CES, I know it's not going to be the most luxurious thing, but it's not meant to be at this stage. It's here to prove that solar mobility can work! LFG!

I drive an F150. This could save me about $5,000 a year! Plus, this thing looks like a ton of fun, and I love that they encourage users doing their own repairs. Nice! Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of things my truck does that this won't, but when I'm just commuting and not hauling my trailer, this would be perfect!

Big business likes reoccurring revenues. Subscriptions. Maintenance. Fuel. This is why they probably are not so interested in this. It’s too consumer friendly for the big boys. So if we want to see it become the success it deserves to be, it’s going to need to be driven by lots of smaller investors, as it has been so far.

Minor point, at the beginning of the video you said the range was 40 miles with solar but I didn't hear a follow up that the total anticipated range of the launch edition is ~400 miles total.

The avg solar range, even in southern CA is not 40 miles/day! Even Aptera states that though they seem to enjoy being misquoted.

@@barnabasseadog7660 I was thinking the same thing. Modders will be in heaven with Aptera's open right-to-repair policies. Steering wheel, seats, pedals -- all might be fairly straightforward to replace if the owner wishes to customize their driving experience. I believe a lot of drivers will want to replace the yoke with a wheel -- even if only to have better placement of the horn button! The driver's airbag might make the operation tricky though.

Do you know what date and time of the day was the test drive you did? If you have an exact time and day its possible to compare their solar output to predicted solar output, using nrel data. Can you supply those two bits of info?

@@solarguy if you go to aptera solar calculator blender model ( there is a really amazing model that can be opened in blender), it predicts the output of aptera vehicle at any location/time/date/orientation, can compare its values to what they were getting, see how accurate it is. Also aptera has a predictive model on its website that links to nrel data and location, and gives its prediction on output ( not as good as the blender model), so can also compare what you were seeing to what they predict but only in a more general sense.\ I'm really just interested in trying to get a handle on how accurate are their predictions on solar. They say 700watts and use that to predict the max range from solar, having some real world data from these test drive videos is great to see what real world solar is generated.......it keeps me amused.

Calling it a "solar-powered vehicle" is very misleading. It's _battery-powered_ vehicle -- with solar panels that add some charge to the battery. The significance of that charge depends on where you live, where you park it, and the time of year. It's not like the panels are directly powering the motors.

"Battery powered" is a inaccurate partial description of any solar powered vehicle. The battery is not the source of any energy, but only buffers it. Where does that battery get its power? From the Sun? Yes, every day, just less when it rains. From the grid? Yes, it can if it needs more than the Sun provides. What fraction comes from each source depends on how far you drive and where you live. For most people, the Sun provides most if not all the energy needed.

The vehicle was charging the entire time it was in traffic, standing still, even in shade, and with reflections off buildings. Most people don't really have a clue how an Aptera can impact daily life. The savings in gas, maintanence, $300 a year for motorcycle insurance, personal mobility without toxicity, people have no idea.

Give it a rest.. you could watch the solar continuously feeding the storage pack AS they drove and held their interview. As the Jackery trolls love to scream out.. ‘batteries aren’t generators!’ .. whatever. The ‘Power’ in that battery comes from somewhere, and we are watching it actively come from the rooftop for the time of the drive.

IF Aptera keeps insisting on a production line for every part rather than building the initial cars BY HAND using a 3D printer for bits and pieces THEN it's NEVER coming out. They need to take a look at Edison Motors for inspiration. A licensed, working, hauling logs truck in one year. Crowdfunding done in ~3 hours flat! (That restores faith in humanity not all being a bunch of ignorant Bunny Huggers who believe batteries are better. They are NOT!)

YES Iamgine - because it isn't a car; it has 3 wheels classied as a Motorcycle in the USA; as such you must get a motorcycle endorsement for 3 wheeled vehicle; and wear a helmet in most US states; beyond that and more importantly the company is a fraud; they have announced many times that production is coming soon - Last year it was by mid 2024; on and on back to 2020. Even if they did make something they've sold the same early production vehicles to original reservation holders and "investors" making them a total fraud.

False and False! 49 of the 50 states require only an automobile license, as Aptera is classified as an 'autocycle' in all those states. (An autocycle is a 3 wheeled vehicle that drives with a steering wheel and pedals like a car.) Can you guess which state is the exception? Hint: The pilgrims landed there. Yes, Aptera's founders have been overly optimistic in how long it would take them to raise the money and get to production. Commiting fraud is a crime, however being overly optimistic is not.

Liar, you believe total BS, look them up by state. Starting list. Washington State; 3 wheel motorcycle knowledge test, pass 3 wheel riding skills test and endorsement, helmet. Even Oregon, 3 wheeler knowledge test & fees helmet; California Valid class C license, helmet, Arizona Motorcycle license with 3 wheel endorsement helmet, Texas Class M endorsement for trikes, helmet, Florida Motor cycle endorsement or license with rider course, helmet. New York Take 3 wheel riding course, helmet & protective gear; Illinois 3 wheel BRC helmet motorcycle registration/auto and motorcycle endosement. Mass Motorycle permit, helmet. Next time check your own BS.

@litestuffllc7249
@litestuffllc7249 6 күн бұрын
@@dr.jerrywolfe1289 OK well your understanding is generally wrong; I just went and listed the largest states in the Union by population all require a helmet, most require special training and 3 wheel endorsement because a 3 wheel vehicle isn't as stable as a 4 wheel vehicle. As they are more apt to roll over they need better protection. If you can find some such law in a particular state law that would allow different treatment of a covered 3 wheeler every state would need to adopt it. Clearly no major state has. Why would they make such an exception? There are no such vehicles for sale. This is in part why there are few 3 wheel manufactured vehicles and of course Aptera isn't even street legal DOT will never certify the current design. Add to that they are frauds; they have sold the initial production to the original $100 reservation holders who were promised actual production numbers they would recieve and later to 'investors". They lie about everything.

Handles as good as a 4-wheeler. Wrap is better than paint. A good camping vehicle. Good in snow. "If theses vehicles get out into production then people will be able to test them and do some reporting."
