Ive been a big fan of plecos for 20 years now and am very happy you dedicated a tank to them! Some advice, the zebra pleco is very shy and will have difficulties competing for food with these other, bigger species of pleco. Keep a close eye on it and replace if its starts to emaciate! Also i would definitely look for a nice shoaling fish that prefers higher flow to bring out the plecs a bit more and also so u dont feel like owning an empty tank when they all hide. Besides the blue panaque these will be fine with this tank size as adults. They are not active swimmers and require less space. You can feed whole prawns from the freezer over night and remove the leftover in the morning. Also, blanched zucchini weighed down with a spoon is good for them. Feed these very regularly, like almost every day. These fish need stuff to graze on. They have very long intestines compared to other fish and need way more food. Munching on wood will help with digestion and keeps them from bloating. You have a great selection here, love the green and blue phantoms!! Good luck with these beauties!

Tank Looks Good. A wee tip putting the tube INSIDE the pump outlet significantly reduces it's output because effectively you've blocked at least half of the ouput tube !. Also it's easier and safer with water everywhere to use quite hot water rather than a heat gun !.With your Home System when you pushed the tube over the glass lily pipework if you'd heated the tubing it would push on easier and FURTHER so safer, less chance of it dropping off !

Love the video! If you're looking for a wavemaker to move the whole water column a bit more like a river look into gyre pumps. A bit more expensive and will be a black bar on the top side of the aquarium near the water's surface, but it will really get it moving without the flow being narrow. The ones I've used would probably need to be turned down for that tank, they move that much water.

I bought Zebras as juveniles for my main tank, and as they matured, they started coming out more. They became noticeably more active from around 1.5 years old. I know they are expensive, but they feel much more comfortable when they have some companions of their own kind. They are shy to begin with, so make sure they get enough food!

I also still love these Superfish kits. Last weekend I got a Scaper 70 which I'm turning into a shrimp/rice fish pond. One corner will have all plants coming out of the water like a pond's edge and the HOB filter will make a nice waterfall. I'm also sticking ceramic medium and plants in the filter. You do have to make sure the filter won't overspill if you leave the lid off.

First off, I was gonna say the new cameraman isn’t cringe, but he shouldn’t talk so much-it kinda comes across like he’s only speaking because MD wants to be polite. But as I got deeper into the video, the value of having him there became clear, especially with the outside shots on the drive. MD wouldn’t have normally done that, but because his workload was lighter, we got another insight. As the video went on, I realized MD is a master at his game, at the peak of his powers, and knows exactly how to utilize his assets (he’s paying a cameraman now, so of course he’s gonna get his money’s worth-leave that in). And my boy, did he get his money’s worth, ’cause the cameraman is legit chill!

I love my plecos. I have several types of bristlenose, but I have two groups in two different tanks of the L134 Leopard Frog plecos. I loved seeing someone build a tank focused on plecos. I did one similar for my L134s with caves in amongst the tree roots. The L134s also do fine with plants as they are omnivores, very different to the bristlenose which will eat leaves< the L134s don’t mess with the plants. They also stay small at about 3 to 3.5 inches full grown. Mine also stay out quite a bit.mi have some of the Black Venezuelan Cory’s in with them and they all hang out together.

Looks fantastic! I do think the wavemaker provides more than enough flow and that you can remove the filter pump with the spraybar. Also make sure you look up the different plecos diet needs. Some of them need quite a bit of protein and not just algae wafers (like the zebra). I feed mine both bug bites and cory-wafers.

Didn’t fancy the L134 Leopard Frog then MD? Gorgeous pleco, right up there with the Zebra. Hard to think that back in 2004, I had 4 Zebra plecos in a tank, and they were £45 each from Taunton Aquarium Centre (before they went all marine); was a great shop for plecos but glad to see Maidenhead are getting some great L numbers in. I’ve just moved so pondering whether to set my tank up again. Softer water where I am now (just up the road in Langport) so considering a South America theme as would love to go back to L numbers again and would love to own a zebra once more. Wife may need convincing though to drop £175 on a fish 😮 Gorgeous tank though MD, would love to stop by and have a look in person if that’s ever an option. Cheers, Lee

Top tip! Never buy rocks from your local fish store, they tend to be sold by weight and end up being really expensive, even if not sold by weight. Go to your local garden centre, they'll be a fraction of the cost. As for Plecos, I refuse to keep them, because they're pooing machines. All they do all day long is poo and mess up the tank.
