Carry a gun instead of an illegal knife, if you can't carry a gun for some reason there are powerful air pistols that anyone can buy. Carry a legal size knife. Carry a blunt object like a small bat or baton. Carry bear spray which would be better in most situations. There are so many better options than carrying something illegal and gambling on if you are going to go to jail after a completely justified self defense situation because of what weapon you chose to use.
