@@_DeProgrammer Not sure what product you are referring to. I adopted a GSD who had many issues and I did not know how to deal with them. The information I'm referring to is what might be the reasons for reactivity and that it can be helped via training with methods other than positive training, which did not work for me and my GSD. I don't expect to watch a few short videos and be able to "fix" a problem.

Brandon mcmillan is the most gentle, thorough and effective dog i've ever encountered. My friend and i love the dog show and never miss it. So many times we've shed a tear of happiness just seeing a dog's life changed forever when proper training is applied and they go on to live their lives the way they should. I have brandon's book kzbin.infoUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq in two formats. Not only the paperback version but also the kindle version to refer to when i don't have the paperback along with me. I have used his methods with my cavalier kc spaniel and turned a non-disciplined furbaby into a companion who has traveled thousands of miles with us across the country. He is a near perfect dog thanks to brandon's methods. I don't get one cent of kickback for recommending brandon but i do it because i love dogs. They deserve to be given a chance. Brandon's mission in life - to rescue dogs and place them in a forever, happy home - is very dear to my heart. I recommend his methods to anyone who has a dog - young or old. I've seen him take even old dogs and teach them. Brandon was an animal trainer before his current mission. His parents were animal trainers. His methods are the best i've ever found. Your furbaby will thank you for spending the money on this book. Don't hesitate - it is worth every cent.

This is exactly what I'm working on. I'm not having much success but I'm working on it daily with whatever distractions I can seek out. I'd love to see more about how both sides of this is done. Both the corrections and the rewards. I generally find I can't correct and get the reactivity to stop at all which then makes it hard or impossible to reward a little good behavior and start showing what I DO want. Nice video, I'm hoping for more detail on how the actual work goes.
@shepherds.pie.youtube
@shepherds.pie.youtube Жыл бұрын
With my GSD it was a matter of making the corrections effective enough to stop it so I could then reinforce the good behaviour, but if you think you're using pretty intense punishment and there's no change perhaps you need to get a trainer to help you. 100% recommend even one face to face lesson. It's worth the cash, believe me. You can also try popping the leash to one side after he gets to the end of it which should turn him away from the distraction. This is a much better method than just hammering with the leash. Reactivity is a tricky thing and something that might not be possible to fix from watching one or two videos but if you can't afford a trainer (and I've been there) you can try these things. Watch Miracle K9 (super underrated, they show their whole process free of charge), Michael Ellis, Tom Davis (though he doesn't do a good job explaining things) and avoid trainers like Robert Cabral (who denies the use of punishment in his method though he blatantly uses it) and Beckman's Dog Training (who is all about entertainment and frickin drives his own dogs insane by using them with reactive clients all the time).

the key is to correct before the pulling and the crazy. I would do the corrections if my dog stares at the dog. Its hard to tell if the dog is staring or looking. Staring is if the looking is going on longer than 2 or 3 seconds. Looking is ok, Staring is not. Staring is like a I dare you or I want to do something to you kind of look sometimes you can see it in the dogs face and sometimes you have to count to 3 lol. If you correct at the stare you can more likely walk by a dog without your dog going crazy.

Hire a professional train like these trainers. My 2 Malinois pups were attacked by 2 gaint Snauzers at the Park. They became reactive and became afraid of All dogs. They bond together by litter mate syndrome which made it even Worse. This went on for 1 yr. until a Afghanistan war Vet, who trained Miltrary Dogs trained my Dogs. Within 3 weeks my Dogs were the Best behaved Dogs at Any Dog Park We Went. He used an E collar, but sparingly. I use it maybe once a day. I can contol my dog by hand signals. I point they go that way. I whistle or wave my hand they come back. I can tell them to slow do when running up to a New Dogs. 99.9 Control. You need to be trained just as much as your Dog. My Dogs have a Real Life Now and I No longer Worry about Dog fights.

Dog parks can be a Disaster! That would be the WORST thing to do to a fearful reactive dog. Many uncontrolled dogs running up to a reactive dog is NOT a solutuion but a recipe for serious confrontation and injury. My dog being attacked by an uncontrolled aggressive dog was how the problem started in the first place!

I’ll share this with his trainers. Though it’s been covered. I guess it’s not apples for apples as Serge reacts only on leash and only to people. He doesn’t care about other dogs, deer, cats. Just people and just on leash. We may move to an e collar as it seems dogs like this, or even less reactive, are all wearing e collars in the videos I’ve seen.

@@Stilinski1485 thanks for the feedback. Been watching this channel for a while and may do so. As noted we have not used an e collar yet. I’ve been through two other trainers. He has one for obedience and one for agility. That’s 4 now. They all say the same thing…in the beginning. “You’re going to find that the issue is you.” Then 4 weeks in “We’re going to need to try something different. This is a special case.” He crushes skills and commands but as soon as there is a rest period, just a second of lacking input, it’s full alert and barking at people that walk toward us.
