I feel like this is low key adult relationship advice 😂 1. Create interest 2. Don’t introduce rules too soon 3. Make them associate you with fun 4. Don’t let them take your toys to play with themselves 5. If they let you go, make it hard for them to get you back 6. Let them be a winner with you 90-99% of the time 7. Build trust 8. Bond

That slight touch on the toy and leaving it is a MUST. It builds the concept that "I love winning, lets go to my human that I always win". Dog forgets about playing on its own and with others because winning feels great.

That's what my Malinois X.pup trainer told me. Toys go in the box until we play together. 2 days of No Toys changed her from little play together to 2 hrs inactive play each day. She puts the ball right in my hand so I can throw it. Before she kept it and play was Over. She can.catch the ball on the fly now. Try it you will have so much more fun.with your dog.

i think most working dogs know how to play instinctively. Biting, chasing, searching, tugging, bringing balls and sticks back, etc are natural. No reason to teach a german shepherd, or even a shepherd mix what do. All you teach them is how to do play with you. one of my (older) neighbors got a shepherd mix and just left here outside by herself in a wooded lot. She was definitely too much dog for an old man, but she was smart. I used to just walk up to the fence, she did not know me from adam, and went like: where is your toy? where is your toy, and she would start looking for anything to play with, a flat football, a stick, an old tennisball, I would then throw it. she would bring it back and play tug for little, then surrender it for me to throw it again. she had so much fun, never tried to come over the fence either. She knew that my side of the fence was not her side of the fence. That dog was young and had zero training.

amazing video!! have malinois-Gshepard mix.. seeing this i can see im making some mistakes when playing with my dog, but, i can also see what im getting right. which im proud to say is way more than my mistakes. learned especially that im not ending the play correctly, will keep your tip in mind. i have training toys for my dog and i, but also 2-3 toys that are laying around so my dog will have something to do while im at work - ill take that away, see how it goes. i do create Drive well, and am letting him win. having a long leash to keep control and alow the dog relative freedom of movement. btw, me and my dog are with the guidence of professional trainer but multiple sources of info cant hurt. here i learn what i dont know that i dont know.

I would like to buy your course but you said it was for 6months old dogs minimum... So I don't know if I should or not. I'm about to buy my first puppy and would like to start with the best informations but I will buy a 2month old so I'm wondering if it's any good in my case to buy your course. Would you still advise me to take it? As I understand, obviously, you can't put a prong collar/e-collar on a 2/3months old puppy so I don't know if buying the course will be any good. Or am I supposed to replace it and only use a flat collar...? (I really want to buy your course but it's the only thing keeping me from buying it right now, a few weeks before I actually get the puppy)

@1packatak
@1packatak 2 жыл бұрын
Stop playing any game that requires a release. And work only on the release. Do so in a calm environment. Reinforce any release at first. Then start raising the expectation. I would also use an item you can easily handle. Something long enough that you can hold on both ends while the dog has it in his mouth. Then gradually reintroduce the games that were an issue

Show her that letting go of the toy doesn’t mean that the game ends, and it actually means that the game continues and it’s fun. And when he doesn’t let go when asked to do so isn’t fun anymore. There are plenty of ways to teach an out command or to trade for a toy with the same “value”. Also the game ends when you decide it ends, not when the dog decides and remember you should always end the game when the dog is at the highest level of enjoyment…

My gsd pup seems smart enough and well tempered but he’s 15 weeks old, only 15/16 pounds, and one ear is still floppy while the other is perfect. Is he broken? I broke all the rules like an idiot when I saw what conditions he was living in so no I did not see the parents firsthand :( pictures looked good though and he has AKC papers but I know that means nothing. I’ve read not to worry about size or ears till 5/6 months so hoping if I just keep feeding him and loving and teaching him games he will fill out

Sit on the floor. Or a low stool. And lure him down. Then keep working while changing positions, and fading (getting rid of) the lure. Pretty soon you will be standing and just giving a little verbal. Also, at first work in the same place. Then as he gets it, change locations. Be consistent in your verbal word and any physical cues you use. Plus, the cue is given once. If you repeat it, then the dog thinks instead of responding to “platz” he should respond to “platz platz platz.

I like to add this . Dont wrestle or roughhouse with pups. And don’t play mouth games like tug of war . Unless you are raising a security animal that uses their strength and bite force.
@1packatak
@1packatak 2 жыл бұрын
Who told you that????? I rough house and wrestle with my Rotties from the moment they come home. And play tug. It allows me to teach “take” the tug. And “give” the tug. Which can transfer to any other item-such as an obedience dumbbell. It allows me to teach impulse control-you get to play when I say so. It allows me to teach bite inhibition. It allows me to build drive. It allows me to teach “drop” as when they have something awful in their mouth I want them do get rid of immediately-such as part of a dead animal. It allows me to teach leave it. And it helps to build the most amazing bonds.

He caught on really quick, by teasing him and not giving him the toy right away... he now, brings me the toy acts as if he is going to give it to me... then he runs away with it.
