I'm surprised you didn't take a mold of those slugs, Jeff.... BTW, let me take a moment to say that as much as we love the OG, every time I see Danny as the guest shooter, it does my heart good. :-) I just came out of the hospital from beating cancer for the 4th time. Holy hell, Danny’s shoulder must be sore. That’s a hell of a round. Would be good to see some slow mo in future of the shooter taking the force of a recoil.
@weirdscience83416 жыл бұрын
Just buy a neoprene and rubber shoulder saver most sporting stores stock them they just take that initial wack out that you get off magnum loads you still feel a push it doesn't really take all that much recoil out but it's a difference between a bruised shoulder or a not bruised shoulder I swere buy them for 3 inch magnums mines a jack pyke one I think

Hello, i'm from Yakutia! We regularly used and use this slug, for hunting on a large animals. The slug it is very popular in our big country)). For a better penetration force, I can advise you, to screw in a hollow nose, a solid screw or bolt. The penetration force increases, but the bullet is practically not fragmented)) Good luck)) Sorry for my english))

Now that is a beastly slug! Got to say, the results are impressive. Imagine slinging those through some semiauto shotgun in rapid succession. That'd put a world of hurt on whatever is your target, and quite probably your shoulder as well. Let's hope these get more widespread!
@crazyfvck6 жыл бұрын
+Erik Blackboar I'm thinking that these would actually be more enjoyable to shoot through a semi-auto shotgun. They tend to soak up a bit of the recoil, at least in my experience. The only exception might be the Browning A5 (original)/Remington Model 11, because of the long-recoil action.

6:50 I wish you had a high speed camera set up on the side or even slightly more towards the rear of the lead disk, because it would be interesting to see the elastic deformation too. Now we only see the plastic component...
@taofledermaus6 жыл бұрын
Gotta be careful of lead fragments hitting the camera
@lukearts29546 жыл бұрын
yes, I agree, but you've shown that it still gives very usable images from a relatively great (and thus safe) distance. I think a side position, slightly towards the back to be out of the scatter plane of the surface of the target, at say 30 yards should be safe enough, don't you think? And/or add a plexiglass shield. Even soft metals like lead have a certain elasticity, and if you see the slow-motion images of the ballistic gel showing shapes that are not visible on other footage nor with the naked eye, there's bound to be some interesting frames to a hit that results in a crack in the lead disk, wouldn't you agree? (Of course, high speed cameras are a significant investment, so I fully understand your precautions and reluctance to put it near possible fragment trajectories. But for the sake of science and curiosity, I really wanted to toss up the idea)
@lukearts29546 жыл бұрын
PS no ad-block here ;) You pointed that issue out in a very comic way, because you had me looking for the X to click away the popup =DD I don't mind ads, especially if they keep great content like yours free, but they sometimes cut at the worst points, or cover up important information in the videos (when watching instructional videos p.e.) I would prefer a dedicated black area right next to the video over an annoying popup that blocks the creator's content. After all, you've put time, effort and talent into the creation, and messing up the balanced result with ads is somewhat of a lack of respect for all that energy put in.

Russia has some weird gun laws where you can't own a rifle until you've had a shotgun for a bunch of years so that's why they have 5000 different slug designs to compete with rifles they can't have easily. In the US you have rifles. These different slugs to the Russians is like people getting together and arguing about their chosen rifle calibers for game. Still really cool slugs, and most are easy to make if we just had molds.
@eugenemihailukov86113 жыл бұрын

I would love to know what chamber pressure these are running at, and even see the complete pressure curve on them. That's simply amazing ballistics from a shotgun. I suspect quality, modern shotguns can handle these without issues, so it'd make a heck deer round. I may have to see if I can make a mold for a similar slug using a 3d printed sabot and test some rounds.

I remember reading an article by Sheriff Jim Taylor, in it he said that a slug fired from a 28 gauge shotgun had more energy than a 454 Casull. And the last that I heard, a 454 Casull would cleanly take any game animal on the planet. In my opinion, That is something that more shooters should know or be aware of. I doubt that many hunters are really aware of what the old smoothbore is capable of doing.
