Lombok is an amazing place for spicy Indonesian food!

I didn’t have too much time to travel in Lombok (though I’d love to visit again), but I really wanted to visit Tetebatu, at the base of the volcano one day. So we hired a car for the day and drove there, taking some stops to eat some legendary spicy Lombok Indonesian food along the way.
Inaq Dellah - This is the original restaurant in Lombok to eat Ayam Rarang, what I found out is one of the greatest stews I think I’ve ever had in my life. It’s basically just a pure chili stew, made with chicken. It’s so unbelievably flavor and packed with Lombok chili spice.
Total price - 180,000 IDR ($13.14)
Tetebatu, Lombok
Waterfall entrance - 20,000 IDR ($1.46) - We arrived to Tetebatu, and paid the small entrance fee to enter the waterfall. The waterfall was worth a visit, nothing too big, but I always enjoy walking through water on a hike to reach a waterfall.
Nasi Puyung at Nasi Balap Puyung Inaq Esun - One of the most legendary of Lombok Indonesian food dishes is nasi puyung. Again, we went out of our way to seek out the original. It’s a combination of fried shredded chicken, mixed with a heap of curry chili paste. It doesn’t really look that spicy, but it’s pretty amazingly spicy, I loved it. It’s kind of a 3 am kind of dish.
Total price - 88,000 IDR ($6.42) for 3
All day car and guide - I paid 700,000 IDR ($51.10), and Belen was a great guy, and the owner of / lombokpirates highly recommended (this is not sponsored, I paid).
This was an amazing day trip in Lombok, and along with crazy spicy delicious Indonesian Lombok food, the sightseeing was spectacular as well. Lombok is a gorgeous island!

I just wanted to say that I'm getting frustrated with all the negative comments about the food, a country and even about Mark. We all choose the impact we make on people whether we meet in person or online. We get to choose whether we make a positive or negative impact. I personally can't understand why anyone would choose to be negative. Let's all try to keep Mark's videos a positive place to be. It's a great opportunity to learn & be respectful about different foods, cultures, people and countries. So you might not choose to eat the food, there is no need to put the people who live in the country down just because they eat it. We are all different and that is what makes the world an amazing place. Thank you to all of you who read my whole message. Xx

I love so much how Mark is enthusiastic about exploring authentic dishes. They are part of culture, definitely. Even though some of them may seem "unsanitary" to someone, they come from the hands which feed their neigbours, friends and customers, so they definitely don't mean any harm. This experience is priceless.

Yes Indeed!. He and his wife Really helps to spread culture to the world around them in a really great way. And yes some dishes seem "unsanitary" or even scary but the locals loves it and that is really the whole point of food beside it's use for nutrition in my opinion. But i can't understand how his intestines seems to be immune to foreign bacteria 😀. Or he's maybe on a constant and high dose antibiotics😂

@Ot-ej5gi
@Ot-ej5gi 5 жыл бұрын
@@thezapata80 Have you heard from the foreign exchange student?..No:).. Then I would not jump to such UNLIKELY conclusion. When someone wants to introduce someone else to their culture, they are not going to cook dinners on more than 2 occasions. More likely than not, it would be one, max. 2 dishes at a time, likely just TO TRY. Here is a sample dialogue: Foreign Exch. Student: "Oh family, I was cooking my dinner and I wanted to have you try one of the dishes:). I know, they are probably very unusual in taste for you, but I also hope that you like it.":) (polite smile). -The Family rep (mom, etc.): "Oh my God, you really didn't have to! But we'll definitely give it a try! It was so thoughtful of you! Thank you:) (polite, maybe somewhat grateful smile). But THIS sounds like a definite exploitation, Sir.

That chicken drumstick was most likely from a locally bred village chicken, or what we would call organic chicken with no hormones and such. That's why it's so thin and slightly chewy, they're usually tougher than factory chickens. Great vid, keep it up man!

the first food ayam rarang is made from ayam kampung and not broiler chicken, it's a lot healthier, but the chicken is smaller than broiler and a lot more expensive, not a lot Indonesian people can afford to eat that everyday, it's a luxury food, sometimes the price of ayam kampung is even with grade A beef /kilogram of meat

Damn. Mark, you’re trying out Indonesian dishes that I myself as an Indonesian have never even heard of. To be fair, the Indonesian cuisine is just such that every single city or village is bound to have its own local dish so it’s practically almost impossible to try every single dish out there in one’s lifetime. Props to you, Mark, for going out of your way to a village in the middle of nowhere just for some authentic local food.
