I like how some Christians would say "that was the OT!" while at the same time accepting the Ten Commandments and the Genesis Account. Even if they were right, it's still the same god who is supposedly "all loving" and "unchanging." Did God, the objective source of all morality, just change his mind about slavery being moral? It's contradictory.

Cam I asked my wife who is a thiest about that. She believes "Jesuses new commandment" overwrites all the old testimate rules. (He said nothing to imply that as I read it but thats how she took it.). Jesus even said (previous date) something along the lines that the laws will not change until "everything was acomplished". That part was also 'overwritten' was what I gathered. Thiests are not stupid I don't believe, just brain washed.

The Christian excuse is that slave means butler or maid. That and it's a contract because it sounds less offensive. Apparently to Christians it's OK if God tells people to own someone like property and beat them, as long as you call the slave something politically correct like "maid". Pay no attention to how people were more brutal and bigoted back then thanks to people taking their religious beliefs more literally.

NO, it's not okay, the out come of slavery was because of how people chose to use their free will. Stop letting a few people define your definition on Christians, God is a merciful, and just God. Why do you think he hasn't come back this whole time, to let others repent, to let you repent, open your eyes. God's not against you, being a christian does not mean you are perfect, or that nothing back will happen to you. The closer you are to God the more the enemy wants you. God is for you and he loves you.

You do realize what slavery meant back than right? If you owed someone money and you took it to court and you won, the person who owed you money is to pay you back and if they cannot they would be a servant to you. If that person who was ruled by the court to work for your to pay off the debts and they REFUSED to work and pay you back and essentially spit in your face than you can beat them. If someone stole all your gold and than spat in your face and refused to pay off the debts your gonna wanna beat them to. Ignorant fool.

You should do one on how God essentially created racism. Genesis 11:1-8 The Tower of Babel 11 Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2 As people moved eastward,they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. 3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” 5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6 The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” 8 So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.

I like the verse where god held the sun still in the sky, for an entire day: Joshua 10:13. God did this so Israel could get revenge against it's enemies. Combine that verse with the verse in revelation, about the stars falling to the earth like figs from a tree, and you almost get the idea that the people who wrote the bible had no idea about basic astronomy. Sun does not revolve around the earth, stars are much bigger than figs - those sorts of things.
@pennymac16
@pennymac16 7 жыл бұрын
_"Sun does not revolve around the earth"_ -- Assuming people believed the Sun revolved around the Earth (as was common, probably), it would make sense to equate what we would now recognize as a stop to the rotation of the Earth (on its axis) to a stop of the revolution of the Sun around Earth. _"stars falling to the earth like figs from a tree"_ -- The way you wrote it it's a simile. It's not saying that stars are as big as figs. Also, think of meteors. It's not far fetched to assume that people used to think they were stars falling from the sky. _"the people who wrote the bible had no idea about basic astronomy"_ -- What, do you blame them for it?

Since I consider the bible to be nothing more than an ancient mythology, it is exactly what I would expect. If an all knowing god told people what to write, the bible would not read like it does. Clearly the bible was written by people, just like any other mythology. Just like any other ancient mythology: the stories defy science, and clearly indicate a limited understanding of the natural universe.

@@walterbyrd8380 isn't every book we read written by another person/s? the Bible does not go with the 'natural universe' because humans don't even have the slightest idea of what is correct. Don't you understand that everything in Scientific is a Theory, we don't even know if the earth has an actual core; scientist can't just drill a whole all the way to the middle of the core. If you want to go with what science says then, the basic things to have a universe are space,time, matter. we can see the in the begging of the bible it talks about the creation. And the specific use of words are, "In the Begging", meaning God is outside of time, he created time. As for matter he put his life of breath into it, he created man which means we have no idea what he can do, In John 4 the bible says hes a spirit, so how could we possibly understand the Glorious presence of God. Space, (1 chapter of genius) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, the darkness covered the deep waters"(Genius 1-2) Again supports my belief of Space. But it's up to you dude, believe in a theory of the 'big bang' or of the Creation. This is to give you more information that you probably didn't know, I'm not forcing my religion on anyone. Free will.

In reality every one who says he believes in GOD does not believe in GOD.. If some one or his loved one gets sick he simply goes to the doctor.if he believes in GOD he should straight away go to GOD. It is the training that we get at the childhood that makes us think that GOD is there.and GOD can do anything.After fixing our mind with GOD we never ask any questions about him.But only few people can think and ask questions about GOD them self and get no answer.Then they become atheist like us here. Science says doubt everything,Question everything,Analyze everything and find the result and then believe it. Religion says believe everything as told. that's all. Now decide for yourself which way is the right way...

Lev25.44-46 says possession not ownership. Where do you see own? Slavery is ownership of another as property. Property is by owner AND property is by mere possession alone. Ownership vs possession. Look it up, legal definition. Or just use the Bible to determine what possession is. Same exact word used..when God said go in and take the land as a possession? That same word is used in lev25.44-46. Strong's H272 - 'ăḥuzzâ. They don’t own that land, God does v23...and they don’t own the Gentiles. It’s not slavery. Indentured servants were bought, sold, traded and inherited too. They were skilled labor

For every people who are losing faith in Jesus.. I want to say something...all the miracles happening today... Those miracles have a reason... When u see miracles don't denie it because one day Jesus will denie you in front of his father God one the door of heaven... You should be humble and stop asking stupid questions in ur mind who is God or how he have a son... I mean omg... Some people say to me how we know God have a son?! Wtf you asking?! And how u was born?! Who created this planet and universe...?! Who created humans!? U don't have the right to ask how we know God have a son named Jesus! This is a sin to ask that! When u want to talk about Christian religion you should first read the bibble and explain for ur self what u are reading and be humble when u are reading the pages! You cant judge the words that u are reading before u understand the words!

Read the full chapter for yourselVes “These are the laws you are to set before them: “If you buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years. But in the seventh year, he shall go free, without paying anything. If he comes alone, he is to go free alone; but if he has a wife when he comes, she is to go with him. If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the woman and her children shall belong to her master, and only the man shall go free. “But if the servant declares, ‘I love my master and my wife and children and do not want to go free,’ then his master must take him before the judges. He shall take him to the door or the doorpost and pierce his ear with an awl. Then he will be his servant for life. “If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as male servants do. If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself, he must let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith with her. If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter. If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing and marital rights. If he does not provide her with these three things, she is to go free, without any payment of money. “Anyone who strikes a person with a fatal blow is to be put to death. However, if it is not done intentionally, but God lets it happen, they are to flee to a place I will designate. But if anyone schemes and kills someone deliberately, that person is to be taken from my altar and put to death. “Anyone who attacks their father or mother is to be put to death. “Anyone who kidnaps someone is to be put to death, whether the victim has been sold or is still in the kidnapper’s possession. “Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death. “If people quarrel and one person hits another with a stone or with their fist and the victim does not die but is confined to bed, the one who struck the blow will not be held liable if the other can get up and walk around outside with a staff; however, the guilty party must pay the injured person for any loss of time and see that the victim is completely healed. “Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property. “If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise. “An owner who hits a male or female slave in the eye and destroys it must let the slave go free to compensate for the eye. And an owner who knocks out the tooth of a male or female slave must let the slave go free to compensate for the tooth. “If a bull gores a man or woman to death, the bull is to be stoned to death, and its meat must not be eaten. But the owner of the bull will not be held responsible. If, however, the bull has had the habit of goring and the owner has been warned but has not kept it penned up and it kills a man or woman, the bull is to be stoned and its owner also is to be put to death. However, if payment is demanded, the owner may redeem his life by the payment of whatever is demanded. This law also applies if the bull gores a son or daughter. If the bull gores a male or female slave, the owner must pay thirty shekels of silver to the master of the slave, and the bull is to be stoned to death. “If anyone uncovers a pit or digs one and fails to cover it and an ox or a donkey falls into it, the one who opened the pit must pay the owner for the loss and take the dead animal in exchange. “If anyone’s bull injures someone else’s bull and it dies, the two parties are to sell the live one and divide both the money and the dead animal equally. However, if it was known that the bull had the habit of goring, yet the owner did not keep it penned up, the owner must pay, animal for animal, and take the dead animal in exchange. I am religious (Jewish), and feel like you were creating a straw-man argument here, for me at least. Here are my critiques, and please feel free to reply in a manner appropriate for a respectful debate: 1. What translation are you using? Where you have "If she does not please her master, who has betrothed her to himself..." I have, "If she proves to be displeasing to her master, who designated her for himself..." There's a difference between betrothing and designating. Looking at the Hebrew, the original language, the word is יעדה and seems to match my translation better. 2. This is where certain groups of other Jews would start to call me an apikorus, or a heretic, but I agree, the Bible was written by men, and thus the strawman begins. When I read this passage, I see further than the surface-level reading. I see it as a way of saying, "we live in a society where slavery is prominent, so let's be a little more moral, and instead of saying you can do anything slavery related, here are restrictions." It's like humanitarian law today. Hopefully, people will look back on war today and say, "they were so immoral! They had killing as an acceptable thing!" This passage is like the humanitarian law for their slavery. Luckily, we now live in a more moral society for condemning slavery, but we know that was not always the case. 3. "If you believe a good G-d exists, then you at a bare minimum cannot accept that these verses reflect His wishes." True, IF I believed in a good G-d, but I don't. My theology holds that G-d cannot be good, bad, etc., as that is not an attribute I have for G-d. It would be like asking someone, "is a tree good or bad?" 4. "If you refuse to accept these passages, and others like it, then how can you trust the rest of the book to be factual. Especially on all the crazy magical stuff like talking snakes, donkeys, ... spirits, heaven, ... G-d?" Because I don't accept the Bible as factual. But this is not to say that it is unimportant. The way I see it, if this book has survived as long as it has, it has to have *some* value. Obviously, when children hear fairy tales, they do not assume the stories are true, but understand that important lessons can be learned from them regardless. This is how I see the Bible. 5. "Are you relying on faith, hoping it all works out and that G-d will one day explain all your worries away?" No. I'm not.

What a shame that your "god" had to wait for mankind to surpass his morals and ethics, and outlaw some of the barbaric practices. You'd really think that a ethical moralistic god would of been ahead of the curve on those things but it's more evidence of a human influence within its pages, holy crap even the pro slavery crowd were citing the bible as evidence that slavery is all good by god... C'mon Gerald i suppose it was just a thing of the times to stone a woman to death or cut her hand off, how about she is "unclean" for twice as long after giving birth to a girl than if she has a boy...

Actually, the laws of slaves were put in the bible to give us context to the next major story. Yes all these things were true why, because it was the 2666 Anno Mundi, slavery still existed at this time. And if your going to say, well why doesn't God just take slavery away? If God were to take slavery away, doesn't that defeat the purpose of free will? With the free will that God give, people decided to make slavery a thing. And some people decide to take the bible out of context.

you are wrong here. back in those days, that's how they treated women. they treated them virtually as slaves. like property, women had very little rights. even today, there are countries that still do this. New Guinea, Bedouin cultures. India wa like that until recently. they had a dowry system. These command were given to orderly exit out of this mess. Then Jesus came along and destroyed all that slavery of women. Galatians Chapter 3 verses 26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
