Wanna know a little-known superpower goats possess? Something not even I knew and I’ve traveled across the country to hang out with goats (thank you “Made In America”)... I’ve met goats in barns and breweries, backyards and buses, I’ve drunk beer with goats, I’ve even done yoga with goats. But I had no idea that some goats do more than just make the world better with their cuteness or their cheese- some goats FIGHT WILDFIRES.
I learned all about the four-legged firefighters of California talking with goat mama and co-founder of Goats R’Us, Terri Oyarzun. Her herd of 5,000 rescue goats can eat acres and acres of dry grass and invasive plants, which prevents fires from spreading. They even eat star thistle, which is really prickly and hard to remove, but apparently for goats - no big deal.
By the way, goat yoga, it’s not really yoga. It’s an excuse to roll around with baby goats. What a wonderful thing.
