A retired NYC police lieutenant told me that the "War on drugs" was lost in 1975. He said as long as there is the demand, there will always be the supply. On the other hand, I read a book once that said, the average person working in McDonalds makes more money in 10 years than the average drug dealer. A drug dealer on average can work about 2 years before the cops catch up with him. When arrested he has to come up with cash for a lawyer who will get him a reduced sentence. After he gets out, they'll keep an eye on him and x cons have difficulty in finding work.
