BMW N54 Dual Cone Intake (DCI) Install + Sound 335i, 135i, 535i, *Easiest On Youtube*

In this Video we will be Upgrading the intake of my completely stock
BMW 335i N54 by Installing VRSF Dual Cone Intakes.
I will be showing you the easiest way possible (currently the easiest way on youtube period) and I will be giving you video footage not available on other videos. This way you will be able to easily know exactly what you need to do and how to get it done.
this Install will apply to:
2007 - 2010 E90/E91/E92/E93 BMW 335i
2011 - 2012 E92 BMW 335is
2008 - 2010 E82 BMW 135i
2009 - 2016 E89 BMW Z4 sDrive35i
Upgrading to a higher flow intakes such as Dual cone intakes, can greatly increase flow in the mid to upper RPM range while increasing the sound of your turbos. It is said to Gain up to 20WHP.

Great video do want to note that I was able to reach the far clamp on the back of the airbox with just a regular longer screwdriver with not too much of a problem

Thanks for the video. It made my install easy, especially the tip about using a flexible drive shaft. Only thing I did different is I pulled out the airbox cover and filter to see better.

The top cover comes off ,it’s a few bolts and the side being held by the plastic flaps and removing the cabin air filter housing. you will have access to every bolt.

Old video but after pulling that cord that goes over the intakes assuming it’s brake boost line or something I now have yellow brake light and brake pad level low malfunction ? Is there a way to reset that or what can I do to get rid of yellow brake light

Do you have the tune the car after the intake install or can you just run it like that .???? Will it throw a check engine light ??? Do to more air flowing through the maf sensor

Good video. Thanks for sharing. Under hood temperatures will typically be drastically higher than the outside air. I noticed you didn't call it a cold air intake like other foolios do. I get it, more unrestricted air flow helps performance but doesn't hot air do the opposite? Any improvements? Any tuning required?

So what do you do with the three cords you had to pull up to disconnect? just leave them their floating? and that long horizontal cabin filter thing came broken on mine too and won’t sit right, is it okay to just remove it or replace with a performance oriented part? if so please make a video on it this was really helpful🙌🏽🙌🏽

Hey what's up Carlos. Ok look, in the beginning I didn't understand your question, so I actually had to watch the whole video to see what you meant. As far as that horizontal piece that come broken I ended up taking it out and I put the thickest wire harness in the grove and the smaller one I just tucked it in the best I could. This way it all looks clean as if it was meant to be that way. Take a look at the video at minute 10. And you will see how i put the thickest wire harness in the grove. The other one put it there the same way. Look at the video in 1080p Hi definition and look at it in a big screen so you can see that wire and how you can put it too. There is a settings icon where the video is playing that you can select the quality of the video. On the phone its hard to tell but on a tv or computer you will see much better. Hope that helps bro. This piece that you are referring to is called "Air Intake Duct" you can find it either by typing the year, make and model of the car or by the engine code (in this case N54) and then typing air intake duct. What this piece does, is that it helps direct the outside air to your intake. Hence for performance people like using air scoops; which as the car moves, the air scoops gives this incoming outside air an easier and smoother route to the intake. And yes the air intake duct is only held by the 2 screws. @@Fatih308 No prob man, we where all there at one point. Yes, connect the duct with the 2 screws and that's it, your done. As a side note, take in to account that in this video I am also showing my diverter valves blowing in to the atmosphere to make the car/engine sound like I have a BOV (blow off valve). @@CrazyCarMods I'm planning on getting catless downpipes too. I'm getting the vrsf downpipes. Now what confuses me a little is going catless just deleting it from the car ? So no extra part required? I would just need the downpipes correct?

@@Fatih308 The cats, cat or catless, when it comes to cars are a slang for catalytic. More specifically “catalytic converter”. In order to understand what catless is and how taking or getting rid of something can be beneficial or not, there needs to be an understanding on what a catalytic converter is, what it does, and what effects can it have when it comes to performance. Your catalytic converter is positioned on the beginning of your exhaust system by the engine. The job of the catalytic converter is to reduce toxic gases and pollutants in exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine into less-toxic pollutants. In other words the catalytic converter works as a filter of gasses produced by the engine before the gasses exit through the exhaust, Hence helping with our environment. In states where cars go through emissions, if you don’t have your catalytic converter, your car won’t pass the emissions test. So what is the benefit when it comes to performance??? Catalytic converters restrict exiting engine exhaust gases and create a significant source of engine back-pressure due to the way they are made (filtering mechanism). Removal of catalytic converters from cars allows exhaust gases to exit their engines much faster and at higher levels. Therefore allowing the engine to flow better, which in turn it will allow you to make more power; you will also be polluting the environment. Keep in mind that you will need to tune your car to make more power. Also taking your catalytic converters off will cause a check engine soon or check engine light, due to the computer detecting that the catalytic converter is not working and/or not doing its job (since there is none). You can code this out with your tune as well.

okay so i just turned 16 and my dad gave me our 335i as a gift, and i’m just getting into cars so i really don’t know much, but is a dual cone intake only for the twin turbo 335i? or can i install them on mine that’s not a turbo? sorry if that’s a dumb question.

I installed mine yesterday but I’m not getting any of the sounds that intakes usually give. Any idea why and yes I do have everything tightened down properly I double checked twice. Thanks to anyone in advance that can help.

The only time you should hear some sucking in of air (vacuum like) is when you are under boost. Try listening to in without the cabin air filter in.

@@CrazyCarMods When I’m under boost it sounds like the stock air box is still in. I don’t hear any sucking in air. Ill try with the cabin filter out like you suggested. If anything I will let you know. Do you think it could be the inlet pipes? Also thank you for your suggestion.

I doubt it could be the inlet pipes, but another way you can test it out to see how it can suck air is by taking out one of the Air intakes out and putting the palm of your hand by the opening and then have someone accelerate the car rapidly up to 4000rpm then you can feel the suction. If there is no suction or very little suction then, there is possibility that the inlet by the turbo is lose, unplugged or broken. This is rare. But possible if the turbos where changed or upgraded.

You can test both of them so you can compare, both intakes should have the same amount of suction.

@@CrazyCarMods Thanks for the tip I will try it and get back to you. I was reving the car with the hood open and I heard nothing. What if there is high suction when my palm is over the inlet. Do you thing I should keep adjusting the pipes for the intakes? Or maybe replace the claps on the inlets because they are kind of rusty.

My dci only lasted a day. I was hoping it would give a nice deep induction noise like a na engine but all I could hear was whoosh this and woosh that and I didn’t find it particularly enjoyable. I still have the stock air box on mine as a result. It would be good if someone made an aftermarket lid which gave more volume etc.

What your hearing is the sound of the turbos spooling. The more spool the higher the vacuum noise. On a natural aspirated engine is a more steady induction lower sound. And on a supercharged engine the vacuum sound will be way louder. The noice is going to differ. We all have different likes. You can probably try the "Dinan cold air intake", which is probably something more of your liking. It's definitely pricey though, but check it out.

Crazy Car Mods yes I have no doubt the engineers at bmw positioned the air box above the intake manifold to help amplify the combustion sound which is the only sound you get with an na engine.....just a heads up to people if they’re thinking of a dci.

the other problem is you are now allowing more warm air into the turbos due to the engine heat under the bonnet. the factory airbox actually delivers more horsepower. on a dyno using the VRSF setup I lost horse power. yes you read that right it reduced the horsepower!

Interesting. I know the DCI get heat soak when the car is not moving, but that is counter acted by the increase in air and a good intercooler. Which set up where you using when you went to the dyno? Where you using the stock intercooler or an aftermarket intercooler? What stage or psi where you running? And how much difference in numbers did you get? Dynoing the car is definitely the way to go. Post more info brother, Im sure many other guys wanna know too.
